Why didn't the customer just put a plug in it? I have always used a plug kit and it never fails.
I work part time at a friend's shop, he sells aTON of tires and his tire tech always puts that black bead sealer on every rim. I want to punch him in the head when it's my turn to demount one of the tires he put on and have to clean all that crap off but maybe that stuff prevents corrosion.

Dish soap in a pump up sprayer works as well or better. Plugs work too, but I know you don't do it.

Had to strip chrome off the bead of many Caddy rims where the leak was between the steel and the chrome.
i use dish washer .
This is the textbook way to properly repair a tire, this should never be done any other way than the way this guy did it, it is the safest way to repair a flat. Some will just try and put a patch inside the only problem with that is dirt will get inside the hole from the outside of the tire and accumulate underneath the patch and eventually cause a dangerous situation. That's why the plug patch vulcanization is the best
I just use dish soap and water to find the leak. I will admit though it sucks at finding the really small pinhole leaks.
Has anyone ever seen one of these leak after installation? What are the leading causes of a leak. Not buffing of area, not enough glue, dry time or contamination? Also after one is applied cans it be removed and replaced with a new one if it leaks? I have one that a new car dealership installed yesterday and the tire is still leaking. Bubble test confirmed. I was going to take it back to see if they’ll make it right and try not to replace an already new tire. The screw was small and almost center of the tread.
When I was a kid, we had a patch kit with a clamp and patches. I must have done hundreds of those patches on bike inner tubes. Each patch was attached to a little metal tray that had some sort of paper/sulfur stuff. We peel off a sheet from a weak adhesive and clamp the patch over the hole and light the paper/sulfur stuff on fire. Let it cool, take off the clamp and the metal tray and it was a very good patch. Of course it would take a week to get the sulfur smell out of your nostrils. For cars, I have used various types of plugs with varying levels of success. Hard to rely on them since when you finally needed it again, the glue would be dried out. Hopefully that is not at he side of the road at midnight in a snowstorm.
Fi had a tire machine, I would definitely patch them they way Eric O is demonstrating!
In my opinion it’s not cost effective to have a tire machine and balancer in a small shop. But maybe I’m missing something.

it all started back in the days of the firestone tires exploding on suvs and lawyers suing everyone in sight now we have tire pressure monitors and lawyers saying you cant plug a tire because somebody might have driven it when flat .well people drive underinflated tires at crazy highway speeds anyway with plugs or patches. it just just comes down to does the driver take care of their car and not drive on flat or underinflated tires it is their own fault if it blows up then

When the piece goes in the whole to check what angle the nail came in the tire it was more than 25 degrees aren't you supposed to use a 2 piece patch?

Interesting. So obviously plug repairs are road side fixes to get you to a tire shop, they always have been. If you get one to hold air longer than a day or two, you got lucky. But I have had multiple patches done to tires for vehicles ranging from a compact to a 3/4 ton van and have never had an issue with the supposed "treat rot" that can occur if the puncture hole is not filled. Drove every one of them to the end of their service life.
Maybe it's more of an issue up north, because until this video I didn't even know patch/plugs existed.
Edit: Oh and I've watched you long enough that I expected you would do a proper tire repair. The only question I had was if you'd skip the balance and disappoint me. You did not. I always just bring the tire in to a shop for a patch. It's faster because you don't have to wait for an open lift and it's a fix they can do in-between other repairs. But about half have tried to skip the balance and I had to speak up. Maybe it's because they associate a balance with mounting and go autopilot or maybe they're trying to save time even if it means an annoying vibration for me at 65 mph lol.

Strange things that I have found in tires, plyers, a bolt in headfirst a piece of brick, a hunk of wood, drill bit, chicken bone.

Geez! Most garages would have pulled the nail, reamed out the hole a little, stuck a glued plug in the hole, trimmed off the outside with a razor and called it good. Have a nice day. That'll be $25.00

I would have switched the repaired tyre to the rear axle, so steering forces don't dislodge the patch on the shoulder.
I kinda doubt that anyone would have any advice on how you could improve your tire repair procedure. That is the most thorough tire repair I have ever seen.
Soapy water also works to find small leaks. All ya need is dawn dish soap and water. I've even used window cleaner to find leaks. Anything that has suds will work to find leaks
for the cost of that repair i would buy a new tire. does that glue work? don't know ,dont want to find out ,may end deadly
i went to my mechanic with a flat,he told me to go to a tire shop.. not much $ in tire repair..lots of $ in wrong diags and throwing tons of parts at a problem.( just give me a blank check and call me in the morning). There are no Eric O's where i live 🙁

Great job on tire repair nice clean job. No brake clean intro.🤣🤣 Punishment no icecream for a month.😂😂 Maybe a little over kill I vacuum the inside of the tire all the time. The Tech-Chek I'm going to check into that product.

While in nyc we go to the most tire shops which are so busy 24/7 they jacks up the tire on the side of the road sprays it with soap n water see the whole, plugs in the those rubber thingies fills up the air and We go in three minutes and if it takes more than five minutes everyone start complaining. Typical New Yorker, always on the go, always in hurry.😂🤫

If you own a tire machine this is the way you plug a tire. I don't so I use plugs and they work pretty dang good.
