DONUUUUUUT I was not expecting that, that was fucking awesome!!!
Those picks were the best 99 cents i ever spent at harbor freight made my life easy.
some thermal paste on the bottom of that would be logical.
Those old AMC 4.2, 4.0L design were bullit proof!
I work with a lady that had a jeep patriot, her wipers stopped, the fuse was good so I thought it might be a relay. Well, although there was room in the fusebox for relays, jeep or fiat or chrysler or whoever thought that burying the relays in a box inside the inner fender well, in front of the front tire was a great idea. What could ever go wrong?
Where do you get the wiring diagrams? my friends car needs one of its cooling fan wires put back into the fuse block but idk where to find the diagram.
Jeep/Chrysler a mechanics cornucopia!
What next to You on the road?
A mask wearing Prius driver that smashes into stuff. 🙃
little donut operator nice touch!
You can go on an economic rant anytime you want 😉
That Jeep might outlive the Prius with the condition it's in.
Shout out to Donut Operator!
The hard pill to swallow is that the Buick Grand National is old and slow. That used to be my dream car. Still kind of is, but just because it's such a beautiful machine.. These days it's a relatively slow car.
That solid state relay is a common failure on the Jeep brand.
Those last two you could totally tell they voted for Biden.. Total. 🐑 with their face diapers that do absolutely nothing but harm.
Love the Donut Operator reference. That's another good channel.
J.E.E.P Just Empty Every Pocket
Current flow is proportional to torque! If the fan is not spinning freely, or has drag on it, or perhaps the bearing is going bad, and has more friction than it should have, the current flow will be higher, as there will be more torque! If the fan motor bearing is failing, or if the fan is rubbing on something, and the torque increases, The increased current flow may be damaging the part you are referring to as a relay! That may be what is responsible for the premature failure of that part! Make sure the fan spins freely, before just assuming it was infant mortality of a new part! Otherwise, you may be replacing that part over and over again, never realizing that the fan is drawing too much current, in relationship to the added torque on the motor.
Funny that a Prius has a hubcap on a fairly nice looking alloy wheel. Love your channel Ray!
flush the system and put correct coolant mix it…
50/50.. and it will be fine..
I don't trust anyone driving on the freeway with a doughnut!
it's a hack jeep…
dump ace for a relay on that jeep… Fiat got there hands all over it
I don't envy you, Ray… having to listen to that damn phone all day.
Needs spring air change
I have a jeep and I understand
Alloy wheels with plastic hub cap… sick
I had a Cherokee, rattle and clunk with half the bushings and stabilizers replaced
Wow I thought I had alot of miles. I love this engine
Ray. If you play your video at the slowest setting you sound Super Doo Dee Doo Hammered🤪🤣😅
You seem to be probing many fuse boxes lately.
Why don't you put jack on the rear control arm to lift car???
Backwards paper floor protector!
J.E.E.P. just empty every pocket
You mentioning that this vehicle is going to be a "classic" reminds me of my own soon to be classic, a 98 Ford Escort ZX2. Next month is it's last emissions test before becoming emission exempt in NY.
Upside down spare making it terribly difficult to check the air pressure.
i own and i understand
Loved the Donut reference!
I think on those jeeps you have to take the bumper cover off to replace some sort of relay on them. Absolutely stupid !!
i not sure if anyone will get this reference or not but i just want to make a fun little reference.. i want to see if any can get it……(reference) are there any spirits around
is this a pre or post fiat jeep?
if it after fiat. just junk it… not work fixing
I had a 2000 Chrysler mini van. The relay went out and google told me it was under the left headlight assembly. I think three nuts and headlight assembly is out. There was the relay on a shelf under headlight. Replaced relay and had fan. The wire was long enough so relay was moved from it's hiding place to the inner fender in plain sight. Three weeks later no fans. Checked and relay was bad, replaced it and worked for the next four years. Traded the van with 200k miles, best most reliable car I ever owned.
Other reasons for the Prius looking like that somebody slashing the tires and hitting it with a baseball bat be it ex-wife or be it people with gas vehicles who are pissed that they're paying high gas prices and want to take their pain out on somebody else.
I've unsubscribed to your channel because you colored outside the lines with that highlighter. You could really hurt someone doing that. SMH. 😅
Yes, even sheeple, are surely noticing when certain parties are in power, say 2009 and now, you pay WAY more for less.. Same size box, less in it, 3x the $$$…. Sic Semper Tyrannis
RAY…OLD RETIRED GLASS GUY HERE…SPRAYAWAY IS THE BEST ON EARTH & SMELLS GOOD 2!!!
Quick get that old guy that can't even figure out a tire pressure issue back out onto the road! So many people and things left to hit and so little time. Do him a favor, put the left turn signal on now because he will be driving with it on until he kills himself and others.
Why…. would you need a cheap looking plastic hubcap to cover up a nice alloy wheel? They're for covering plain old steel rims
This is the exact vehicle I have and I have a power steering fluid leak as well. Gravity is pulling it down the pitman arm. With no physical signs of cracks or broken lines. I just keep the PS reservoir full
I simply do not understand this trend today of NOT changing the darn engine oil! OMG people, That is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy. Especially considering that the sticker said you could get a FREE oil change! Then they will complain about the 'cheap made' engines that don't last at all. SMDH
That relay is not a electro-mechanical device. It's actually a transistor (most likely a MOSFET). It definitely needs a good heatsink. When I first saw it, it only had one screw holding it down. The frame is used as a heatsink. You should also use a heat sink compound between the base of the relay and the metal frame. Silicone dielectric grease should work fine.
I once had a Ford F-150 that would only over heat during the winter time. Summer time it had no issues with overheating. I found out the fins on the water pump had corroded completely off. The only thing left on the water pump was a spinning disk where the fins used to attach to. I guess during the summer time the disk was enough to pump the water but in the winter time it wasn't. Maybe it was too hard to open the thermostat when cold.
Low flow across the radiator would cause a high differential as with low the water is in the radiator longer. A plugged radiator is more likely IMHO
dang if you're saying woah from 370k miles you should see my car, engine has never been rebuilt and it's almost at 500k, absolutely love my little beast of a car
That was almost a one, a two, a three, lock picking lawyer.
As an old copier technician, I can bear witness to the failure rate for relays and triacs. They're designed to fail.
found you a couple of weeks ago .reel good. thanks for your time.
I actually would have bet money aganst one of those pieces of shit making it 370,000 miles
That fan relay in those jeeps have always been trash. Even the new ones don't work 25% of the time. Nice diagnostics.
I wanted the socioeconomic rant.
part was screwed to plastic factory engeneering degree
Could you please place the disposable floor mats with the feet pointing 👉 👈 👇 proper position come on Ray
thermal interfase material atracts durt durt holds heet
That low tire pressure customer deserves the $120 charge for their sheer ignorance.
You are a decent mechanic even though you're not a dealer Technician. I've picked up a few things from you..I know Dealership Mechanics are the best and smartest guys when it comes to having the knowledge and skills with the new complex technology but I can tell you would make it with those guys. Entertaining videos
duct tap-e that light no problem
What company do you work for? I’m looking for a good mechanic. Have a lot of bad experience with mechanics in the past so I do all my own work. But there is a lot of stuff I do not now
Ray bro your technique an diagnosing is just impeccable 👍👍😂😂 I tend to have my car shipped out to Florida just to have you working on it!!
NOT
Yes ….thank you Brandon for the high prices
The better solid state relays have a finned housing for added cooling due to greater surface area, and thermal compound is required on the back between it's body and the mounting surface.
Sorry Ray. After the day I’ve had I can’t watch you fix more problems. Love ya anyway man.
Given that I was asking, "How much longer will it make it?" about a 4.0 at barely 100k, they have 3.72 times my sympathy for all they must have been through as "maintenance" in the meantime. I hope that they really did get their money's worth out of it. "You never know–it is a Jeep" was the most to-the-point comment in the video. Maybe it depends on which day of the week the engine was assembled.
Don't you love it when people leave a pile of used face masks in their car for you when you have to work on it.
I agree, please take care of the seasoned citizens
I'm going through brake clean withdrawal, need to find a hit somewhere. You are right though about the price of everything. Back in my teens (50 years ago) I needed a 6 inch piece of vacuum tube. I went to the parts store, the price was 10 cents/ foot if I recall. The guy just told me to take it no charge, it wasn't worth the effort to ring it up. Now I needed a foot of bulk gas line for my weed whacker and it was $2.
WTH, who puts a plastic wheel trim over an alloy wheel Prius, looking at you. All it needed was the centre cap for the alloy to fill that hole.
Where do you get these wiring diagrams so easily? Or is that some super-secret-trade-only-club thing? lol 😀
Ha! Donut!
Do some people just not comprehend the meaning of "Low tire, inflate to 36 psi"? Scary that we share the road with them.
Fifty bucks says the water pump impeller is just fine, but the radiator is plugged up with mineral deposits. A view of the radiator front-on with your (I'm envious) Snap-On / Flir thermal imager will show a very uneven heat profile across the radiator.
Ray – I would like to send you a bottle of P-80 THIX Rubber Assembly Lube to try. I have to buy it by the case and the last bottles always go badon the shelf before I use them, so why not share one with you now. The stuff is great for heater and radiator hoses, seal installation, installing air hose fittings, etc. Evaporates and leave little or no residue. Send me your mailing address and I will get you a bottle to try.
You watch donut too! Fellow Sarasota guy here. Represent!
People who don't know how or don't want to do weekly maintance checks shouldn't be allowed to own motor vehicles!!!!
Love your videoes always encourages me to work on my own truck. You taught me a lot so far lol. thnx man keep up the great vids 🙂
Everyone hates a vehicle that went almost 400k miles.
I enjoy all your videos, Ray. Keep up the good work. I especially enjoy watching the electrical diagnostics. Thanks. Have yourself a great day!
Hubcap on a mag wheel what a joke !!!!!
I work at a shop here in Michigan. We’re $110.00 an hour
Ray – Sadly, I think your customer is going to be unhappy with the short life they get from the solid-state component you installed. The part you removed looked quite new.
The part you installed badly needs a heat sink and an inter-part coating of thermal conductive compound (like Arctic Silver as an example) between the solid-state component and the heat sink.
This same design arrangement was used to control the blower speed in ZJ Grand Cherokees with the climate control option. I don't know if the solid-state device used is a power transistor or a thyristor, but pulse width modulation speed control is the method used the regulate the motor speed. The ZJs often had the power transistor/thyristor fail because it became buried under an insulating blanket of leaf litter/detritus and/or rain water washed out the thermal conduction compound between the aluminum heat sink and the solid state device (power trans/thyristor).
On Fiat products umm I mean Chrysler products is you air the tires up with the engine running, the sensors will automatically read and the light will reset
That person should not have a new car… they are obviously a Democrat or a liberal! Either way, get insurance to fix it.
It's a Jeep it doesn't need a reason to fail (Junk Expensive Excessive Pile) LOL
Oh noooo! Whatch out… Ray has a Jeep prison shank!! Hahaha
"Customers notice missing caps." Which is weird because I see a lot of vehicles, new and old, with missing valve caps parked in parking lots… 😅 One of these days I'll see if I can remind one of the drivers that they're missing valve caps. I mean, they are like $2 for a set of 4 so they aren't like some expensive, hard to install part.
what is wrong with horn on the grand caravan no tootie toot backing out of shop 🤔🤔
goodyear wants $600 to replace a power steering pump…..
Love the cameo by Donut! LOL
so disgusting having used masks hanging around.!!!!! 🤢🤮
