at that point i would have put some shorty headers on it
you never going to find bolt studs for heat shield except from dealer. I know I looked it up. cost 4 time they worth.
Your credibility goes up when you tell the truth about what you're doing and talk about mistakes. Kudos. Really good video and audio.
You look tired but keep the great job you do buddy I enjoy what you do
Dodge/ram should do the right thing& issue a factory recall for this issue. My’05 ram1500 has the same issue, but the repair cost is apps $800.I think Chrysler knows there’s a problem with their design. They should step up for their customers!
Eric if you look close at the manifold gasket bolt holes you will see one that is star shaped this is to loosely install a bolt and hold the gasket in place there is a corresponding slot on the manifold to slide over the bolt
I love my Hemi. That's all. lol
Excellent video. Thank you!
I’m in the middle of this project now on a 2017 ram hemi yeah it’s a bit tricky navigating with the bolts getting them out cleaning everything up putting everything back in I just finished up the passenger side tomorrow Starts to driver side lucky enough the two back bolts were sticking out a half inch give me something to grab onto I’ve used your method with the meg welder works great on other projects and thanks for your videos worked out great
Ok so how do you stop this from happening again. I've fixed it twice already
Thanks for the video it help out and save money too. And on the driver side putting the gasket in first is a lot easier…..
Good stuff man, would love to see a video of cam and lifter replacement on this 5.7 2500 HD.
Hi Eric, one of the manifold gasket holes has tiny tabs to screw a bolt thru a couple turns and mount to block. This hole in gasket with tiny tabs is inline with the manifold hole that is a slotted hole so you can slide the manifold down with gasket in place. Love the vids and your accolades for the Mrs.
All in all, how many hours were involved for both part 1 and 2, and what was the cost of all the new hardware?
Curious because I've been looking left right and center, and ALOT of ppl claim the only way to PERMANENTLY fix this is going to a set of headers…Apparently it's an engineering problem right from Dodge that doesnt have a proper fix,but also doesnt have a TSB bulletin…
i am getting ready to do my 04 ram 20000 miles not Shure if manifolds are good but i am thinking about doing headers because i have 2 broke bolts and i have to pull them what do you think about headers
try a head cam
I love your attitude and your attention to detail! I have the same problem with my 2015 Ram 1500. Just subbed
mine needs this bad
I have this same truck/issue. Great video and thanks! Love all your videos.
Nice!
Anyone know the part number on the down pipe nuts and bolts?
Always good to double check here before diving in on a task like this for us DIY'ers … in my case I had 2 broken studs and 1 bolt snapped below the level of the head (1st time using a mig welder for this .. got it on the 4th sacrificial nut). I also had one manifold bolt that was so loose I was able to remove it without any heating / tools …. weird!! ….. Keep it up!!
When welding the nuts on the studs is it best to disconnect the battery sorry not much of a welder
Great video but 8 commercials in a 24 minute video? Come on, youtube.
You make it look too easy.
Thanks for teaching me this I appreciate you
👍👍👍👍
When replacing L/H manifold with a new one, DON'T FORGET to drill & tap a new hole for the DIP STICK TUBE, as I did.
Are they true?
Before cleaning heads off, I always crammed toilet paper in ports to keep valve & seats clean. Nothing like an errant piece of wire from the spinning brush to get betwixt your piston & cylinder wall.
DlD My 07 and welded Frankln B0LTS T0 REM0VE THE BR0KEN BlTS (4!) THANKS!!
I got to tackle my 2000 4.7 Dakota exhaust manifold gaskets in bolts. This helps thank you
Hey bro where are you located? Please..
Ha,ha
Hey switch the bolts around !
Elmer's Glue to stick the gasket on the glue will melt when the motor gets hot makes it easier
From what i’ve read, the studs break because the cast iron manifold and aluminum head expand at different rates. I assume the studs will break again sometime in the future, unless the studs are made differently from the originals.
Eric thank you man for being the great Eric you are bro. Out standing workmanship and quality you make. A wonderful teacher bro God bless
Thx good job ! I do like the weld trick you showed , nice little trick ! I did exhaust for a bunch of years but never did that one . This does help me for the task I have ahead of me . Cheers I buy you a beer or two !!!
so watching these, i would trust this shop to work on my stuff. ive always been a do it myself guy though, does anyone know if all shops are similiar in care like this?
i used a torque wrench on mine with the inner fender liner out with no issue its wide open but mine is a 2003 5.7 with torsion bars instead of the big coil spring buckets in the way haha , my other truck is 2004 5.9 cummins and its so easy to work on, its by far my favorite engine to work on without a doubt
Wv coal miners approve of this 📹
Excellent video!
I was fooling around with a broken bolt on my 18, laying around the driveway. What a mess of dirt in the eyes lol. Passenger side only, have some warranty left for the dealer to repair the other side. Just have to do some revs and heat cycles first. This isn't a job I'd enjoy attempting myself. Ever install short tube headers to permanently fix this problem for your customers?
Awesome job! Where you located? I have the same exact truck with same exact issue and everyone wants a fortune to repair it. I could do it myself if I had a lift and a torch.
i was told the bolts with the white dots go in the rear position 7,8 NOT the front as you did,They are upgraded stainless steel bolts.
Part number for the encased nuts and bolts?
Recommend shorty headers?
When your wrist clicks, that's when you know you torqued it down to 18 ft. Pounds.
Thanks so much for these videos, very helpful!!
