I wish GM would bring back the 3800 series II engine. It was very reliable and had good fuel efficiency.
Why do they do when they make a car? The answer is money, if it cost them to fix the issue, they won’t bother fixing it, just think of the unit cost per vehicle and the traffic through their, and your shop for repairs.

I like this Model of Buick, one of the Best Cars Made with the 3800 series engine that is Legendary for Long Life, also the car is easy to Work on and gets great Gas Mileage, better than many of the Newer Cars with V-6's… I would Buy this car right now if it were available.
As a Technician, I have learned that there are a few phrases you should never say. One being “This is going to be easy.”
Cynical me says, they leave the wire exposed to guarantee dealership repair work. optimistic me says maybe it's just a design oversight.
I have a 07 Chevy Monte Carlo LT and it seems to have a small leak near the passenger side (if I recall right) that appears on the garage floor when it's parked overnight, etc. after driving it, so not sure if it's from a small oil leak where it's misting oil on other parts and running down to the floor or something else. I've not had to add oil (or the couple times I did, I didn't have to add much), so I'm assuming it's a mist type leak rather than a full on dripping leak, couse since noticing the oil leak, I only drive it a little about once a week as I don't want to damage the engine. The car only has around 74 to 75k miles. I took it to the dealer as I noticed the leak after an oil change, so I didn't know if they didn't get something tightened down or not. They said they needed to do a "dye" test to locate where it's leaking. They stated after the dye test that they found the oil pan and timing cover leaking. They quoted me a price of $875.85 + tax … or $937.16 after Florida tax, but this was back in 2019.
What is the best way I find out where it's leaking? I don't have a lift or even a jack and jack stands (at the moment)… I do have an endoscope that has a light that I can look into tight places. Another shop has looked at it and one place they said it looked like it was leaking was around the oil fiter housing, which they replaced. The leak is still there and had that shop look at it again and they think that the rear seal may be leaking.
I don't have a lot of money to just try things to see if that fixes it or not, so what would be the best way for a DIY'er to locate where the leak is?

I had a 1976 F250 with the same starter issue. Visually inspected cables, tugged on it, looked and felt good. Changed starter in a winter snow storm outside on ground to find out it wasn’t the starter. The cable had corroded to a green powder inside the "coating" you question. I put a light tester on the started stud while cranking and light was bright. Being a ford with internal solenoid it didn't have the distinctive click, everything pointed to a defective starter. This is likely why they don't coat cables anymore. Moisture got inside the cable and slowly rotted the wires away but the green powder could still conduct enough power to light a bulb but not the starter motor.

motormounts are more complicated than people might think, there's a lot of engineering in it. The reason this new one is a piece of junk is most probably because it's a chinese cheap remake. You need a good, OEM one.

Well my Fords have a fine strands cable there that disintegrates with road salt but my GM cars have a heavy metal conductor strap there… surprised this Buick would have a stupid stranded cable…
I cover the Ford cable with RTV to protect it here in the north… then the sprag clutch strips out, instead…

Chedck the resistor in the Key. I wired in a matching resiistor in line wihit the ignition wire. I hate the GM keys with the chip in int.

Wow nice lesabre. Gah I miss Florida. I just picked up a 99 buick century and am gonna need all new brake lines. The cause bein rust. Cars in good shape minus the rusted problems. It happens so often here up north. I had an 02 grand am that had a great motor and trans. But the car was rusting apart around it. First your brake lines then quarter panels and floor stuff and so on and so forth. I've always wondered why everything isnt coated in something like truck liners under cars. Now any new ride I buy like my new Audi I instantly have the underbody coated and I do it myself so it's very well done. With this stuff that has a texture to it. But it makes a huge difference. I did it to my 92 cutlass supreme convertible that I've owned since I was 15. When i got it she had been a Florida kept car with 13k on the odo. She still is the best lookin one I've ever seen up here. All becuz of making sure to protect the rust. I also always recommend interior protection like scotchgard. And the clearbra around the front and of course the fenders etc.. but I totally agree with you ray factories could do this. I'd wager why they dont do stuff like that. Or offer better warranties is becuz the dealerships make money off of selling these extras. As a sales person I would make 50 bucks off a sale. But you could make a lot more with extended warranties and upgrades like car covers and paint protection and scotchgard

I live in Colorado and I always wrap or preserve all electrical connections with battery spray or lithium grease. or shrink tape… I hate repeating the same repair…😭😭😭
So you damaged the motor mount when installing it and not reading how it is to be properly installed? Stripping the bolts in the rubber.
Hey, I used to have a gmc sonoma pickup. I had it for 10 years and snowplowed with it on small lots and drives. my drive has a high climb on the start then it flatens out. In the first 3 years I went through 4 motor mounts all on the same side. At $180 bucks per change with the part (gm parts) I got tired of it. it is a fact they glue rubber to metal mount bracket and the brake is the same, glue does not hold to metal. One of the owners machanic told me to stop making gmc rich with bad parts. they warranty would be over and it breaks again. he said to buy a pair of grade 8 bolts and 6 hockey pucks. drill the pucks and bolt them in place. I never had to have them replaced. it was a simple fix, about $15 total and I never had to do it again. My second truck was a 2500HD GMC sierrera had the same mount problem. went to sporting goods shop got pucks and then bolts and for the next 15 years of plowing and parking on my drive I have not touched them ever again. I have told many people about this and I always get the most positive feed back. not one bad review.
Had a bad starter, gave me a crankshaft sensor error. Was told to replace the sensor. Sensor was fine and ended up costing 1k extra dollars because the first sensor i put in bricked and had to get another.
Free air cabling = cooling maximized. No excuse for using a small cable that heats up though.
My dads 2000 model Holden VX Commodore has that engine fitted in rear wheel drive configuration if the engine is the 3.8 litre Buick L36 V6 engine in Holdens ECOTEC form.
The exhaust manifolds are different & the inlet manifold is an all alloy ECOTEC manifold & the oil pan is also different since all of that was made by Holden in Australia so it could be fitted into the VS-VY Commodore.
My VY Commodore runs the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine which is much better, Holden ditched the 3.8 litre engine in late 2004 & replaced it with the 3.6 litre GM-HOLDEN LY7 Alloytec V6 engine which seems to be better (it's smoother) but they do have timing chain issues !

Question: Why were comments turned off on the Dodge truck water pump replacement? Wanted to ask why you replaced the water pump when the leak was only at the bolt holes, apparently from bad gasket material application. Why not clean and reapply new gasket?

If it uses combustion to operate, ENGINE, electric, MOTOR. But you are correct, all engines are motors but all motors are NOT engines.
My first car had a braided lead from the engine to the body, when it corroded away the starter current ran through the throttle cable and melted the outer covering. Needless to say, the engine did not start!
I don’t think the jump box was pulling the alternator charge rate down, but rather it was fooling the voltage regulator into thinking the battery was fully charged and thus was just outputting enough to meet the current demand at the time.
