Back in the 70 an early 80s I worked in a shop.they wouldn’t work on emports. I was so glad. But the shop did go out of bisness. Mostly because the owner was drunk most of the time.

Run away from that damn thing!
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh !!!!(arms waving frantically in the air).
A good friend of mine lost his thumb and index finger using a spring compression tool.
    It failed him…..
One day we’ll find his finger…..

Over engineered just like German WW2 tanks.

Sorry, but i don't See that much Damage, maybe a Tie Rod but replacing the whole suspension?

Geeez!! I guess Mercedes designers and engineers had a conference of how to make EVERYTHING a pain in the ass for ALL.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael says:

when you lubed that upper 12 point, my wife yelled"it's just gonna spin faster now"

As a European keep up you are a great mechanic.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TJ says:

And this right here is why I'll never own a mercedes. Repair costs are high for this very reason. They are awkward af to work on

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Craig Fin says:

People who buy Mercedes are basically saying "look I can afford to buy a crappy car, because if it breaks I can easily replace it". Similar to people who buy glass houses, its a status symbol basically saying "I got the money to replace everything here, if it breaks".

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sophie Dolman says:

Try a Renault or Fiat. Not only different size, but positive, torx, flat head screws, snap if you look at it trim, sticky tape, you name it !!!!

The electric motor on that old steering rack is worth $100 they are expensive when new.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars aussieaeromodeler says:

and that's where Germany screwed up in WWII with their tanks ………………wayyyyyyyy over engineered

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Charles Hollis says:

It's a mershitty Benz junk from the factory

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars zach plantz says:

I own a glc. But it's not a mercedes. But it does have the same luxuries. For example, a sun roof. But you have to manually roll it open.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars badger jamees says:

Doing ANYTHING on any Mercedes is a shitshow! You have a lot of patience ray 👍

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew Oakley says:

Good to see the interlocking spanners trick to get enough leverage! I found this to reduce the amount of skin left on the vehicle!!

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Quick Brown Fox says:

My experience with torquing is when something seems over torqued but the tech says they torqued it to spec is that the thing was over torqued first then they used a torque wrench on it and the wrench clicked immediately.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Noneofyourbusiness says:

    what a pos car.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Ren says:

That’s why those only make sense to lease, not own

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ramon Garciano says:

If this were an ordinary shop that would do that strut crown nut , they would use a hammer and chisel !!

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JimAirborne25 says:

“I don’t want to gripe…” Nope. That’s pretty legitimate! I’ve heard the term “over-engineered” when talking about a lot of German products. Then when it’s brought to their attention it’s believed to be a problem, it takes an extended amount of time to look at and assess the problem to re-engineer and likely (dare I say?) over-engineer the fix.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JimAirborne25 says:

I was waiting for the odd SAE tool to be required on a foreign vehicle. Doing a Mirror Universe thing from American manufacturers.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Emmet Myers says:

Better yet a t40 and a box end wrench that ratchets.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Emmet Myers says:

I don't know why you'd use that horrible pliers instead of just a box and wrench.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bark chip says:

Don't you just applaud German engineering? Classy! The BMW factory videos are something else. Quiet, clean, efficient, so logical. Und die auto volks are so good-looking. Ja? 😉

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Todd Gardner says:

If you're not going to invest in the metric sockets for the German cars, buy some brads/pin nails. Put a magnet on the outside of your standard socket and feed a few of those little nails inside your socket. It will lower the chances of stripping anything.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jim Matthews says:

Ray In your honest opinion what’s the best obd scan tool for around $100.00 for a diy guy ?

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Pace says:

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Driveway Garage says:

You showed a lot of patience working on this vehicle, I'm sure a lot of mechanics would have made it non family friendly by now.🤣🤣🤣

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars pj b says:

Mercedes has become a pile of expensive metal junk !

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars EPTDY says:

I dont see anything weird about the way the mercedes is assembled. People will say you can take apart a ford with a 10mm but that's a ford from 1992. Get a ford from 2020 up there and it will use the same amount of different bolts. People just like to exaggerate when it's a German car. I see triple squares reverse torx and torx on American cars on this channel all the time.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JayCe0 says:

It's always funny watching someone working on mercedes suspension for the first time. A job like this is straight gravy. Pro tip for dealing with a job like this….use some heat, ive broken off enough torx bits in those upper ball joints to know better than to even bother with that method.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peterj McGee says:

Mercedes was never known for engineering their cars to make it easy for the mechanics to work on them we every time we saw one of them coming to the shop we saw dollar signs because we know that it was going to take a long time to get any sort of work done because they are cars there are always complicated to work on because they are so well-engineered but they are never engineered for the mechanics to work on them they're not an easy car to work on yes some of their engines and Transmissions are but when it comes to do suspension systems you're a royal pain in the ass

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Santos says:

For those watching, when working on tie rods, balljoints and similar, you always want to hold the stud and spin the nut, not the other way around, especially if you want to save the boot and reuse the joint. Also, if the stud spins, just tapping the stud in will hold it enough to take out the nut. Also, crack all the bolts and nuts on the intact assembly, because once you remove one or two, it becomes all wiggly as seen in the video. Don't take shortcuts. As you can see, there wasn't much point trying to keep the caliper and rotor on. Lastly, if working on an European car, let go of the idea of a Torx, E-Torx, or Triple square head as being special. You'll see them everywhere so get a nice big set for these. Even large 'allen key' sockets will come in handy, especially on fluid changes on diffs and such. Build up those tool sets, makes life easier!

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alex Mann says:

Mate I love your videos – the not enough dk a dk had me rolling. I have a BMW E60 and service and repair it when I can. Every time I do anything there's a stupid torx head bolt or an e torx bolt that's a problem, a ridiculously complicated assembly that needs removing, with special tools, before you can get to the thing you want to remove (which usually ends up with my gloves shredded), something over torqued so it won't come off….. It's the joy of German car maintenance. The fact that you get the same things I do even if you resolve them faster (two to three days faster than me swearing alarmingly in front of the whole cul de sac and doing Homer Simpson hammer thumb hits) makes me realistic about what I can tackle on the car. Honestly, love these and look forward to them coming out, please keep doing these. They're greatly informative and also funny as. Love it. Have a mint 2022.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matthew Matthewq says:

So now that you spun every single spherical joint with impact tools are you going to replace them or just let the customer eat the cost of early failure…. Remind me to NEVER take a vehicle to you for repair…..
