Customer Customer States Mechanic Fails Engine Transmission Gas Diesel off road race 4x4 street car daily driver scam dealership dealer technician how to

Hello everybody, Good day to you! Welcome back! Glad you guys are here! I'm super glad to be here. We're gonna do something a little bit different today. I Had a couple appointments, fail to make their appointment and uh and I'm a lot of stuff to do for the day. So we're gonna hop in the Silverado and do some housekeeping and what I mean by that is.

We got Troy over there on top of the scrap metal trailer, loading up another scrap metal trailer and we're gonna haul that trailer in. So let us restocking or stopping the engine on our 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Let's put six six Duramax and we're gonna go hitch up to the dump trailer. We're gonna haul that stuff out of here. so stay tuned because this is gonna be a very good video opening.

Z Hoods This is our brake rotor. There was a great rudder. oops, look what? I did I brought it back to perfectly and I didn't give myself space to pull the lock off. the uh, the tongue.

See that? It was like right on. Oopsie pulling forward two inches. There we go. that was a little bit more than two inches.

Come here. these are these are more of a deterrent, rather open fall lock gravity. There we go. There we go.

Oh it's so glossy. see: chains, chains, chains. How do we? It's not right across them. Latch him chains crossed.

That's how it's done. Get on there. I Need power for our brakes and lights and uh, to charge the battery in the dump? Watch this All right. Pre-trip inspection: Everything's contained inside of the trailer tires.

Good. That tire is good. This stuff's not going to fall out. That's not going to fall out.

Doors are latched. Let's see that's not going to fall out. I Think we're good here. Yeah, that's about.

it's. pretty good. I'll go with this. All right.

let's hit the road and get out of here. We got to get this. uh. this junk unloaded.

Foreign. Well, that thing's not as heavy as a load of gravel. but it's a it's pretty heavy back there. We're gonna operate in tow haul mode today.

Trailer Light: That means we're until All mode. Tow haul actually is not anything particularly fancy. What it does is it lets the uh it extends your shift points in the transmission. so when it would normally shift to like 20 miles an hour, it'll wind it out to like 30 or 32 and then it'll give you your shift and each gear is uh, is spread out a little bit longer.

Oh, that's funny I was talking to you and then I heard my phone talking down there and I was talking to Cliff Notes So I guess I think I lap dialed Cliff we are approaching downtown Sarasota we're not going into town. The scrap metal place is. uh, it's off to the right of one of these Lanes roads or whatever I think it's the next light down there, but uh, this scrap yard. I Guess they have a scale so we're gonna be quiet.

Series So we're gonna pull the truck out of the scale. They're gonna weigh the truck and then we dump the trailer off and then we come back to the scale, re-weigh the truck, and then they pay you the difference in whatever. uh, however much weight in the metal that you delivered for recycling. Turn right onto Myrtle Street Siri said so for Google or whichever robot servant that is I don't even know which one.
it is a wide right turn in a quarter mile, your destination will be on the right. Thank you I Think that's it. Yeah, that's it. Look at all that drunk files everywhere.

Your destination is on the right, destination is on the road. Let's see here how we're gonna do this. Yes I Guess that's it. Yeah I'm gonna go in the office.

they got a scale right here. We'll wait until that guy's done. I Think it's our turn. just went through some kind of a scanner.

See that thing? Yeah I Feel like radiation? hello telephone somebody from Arizona I Don't know you? Yeah I Think what they do is they'll uh they'll take up all the stuff these cars and whatever they smashed and everything they take in. they loaded in those big bins, put those on a truck, and then take those to another yard that has like the big smelters, you know, the giant pots or whatever. and I think they melt it down and separate. it goes to other facilities for like additional sorting and then they of course it gets reused.

I think I've received security clearance. we've been scaled so I guess I'm gonna pull up and then hang out until I think I'll wait for that. uh that AC van to get out of the way? No no I can squeeze in. Yeah yeah.

I think I'll just back right into that hole right there and dump. I used to work on those vans. see that one says Precision yeah I did a bunch of intake manifold work on those things. Thank you.

Swing that door. You gotta hook that door and see a little Loop right there. You got to hook that up good. All right.

come back forward over here. so then pop this guy open, lock it in, lock the valve. gonna hit the button. Sure run it up.

Oh that's heavy. Thank you. All right, get in there all right cool. let's go back to the scales.

Hot! I Made a mess in my trailer. You should have seen the smile in your face. You were just like that's cool. That was nothing loud.

We even got a compliment from the AC guy. Oh yeah, what do you say? Okay, that's the way to do it right. That's the way. Yeah I Do not want to pick it up twice, just dump it once we still have all that aluminum.

uh and that pile of batteries. Do they take batteries here? Yeah, they'll take batteries Yep. I Came in here once I had an entire truck bed full of batteries and they said uh yeah, we take batteries but they said they'll only take two batteries at a time and I go Why? and they said it's like their new rule because people, uh, were stealing batteries like from Walmart and then taking them to the recycling place to have them recycled to get uh, scrap value out of them and they said without proof of ownership of all the batteries now keep in mind these are like I had two sets of golf cart batteries, two sets of batteries for this truck, a set of batteries that came out of a boat, and some batteries that came out of an RV and it they wanted proof of ownership of all these batteries and I was like I've been collecting these things for like three or four years saving them up in the garage for to just take them all in and they're like yeah, we need paperwork so I had to they say to either receipt or like company letterhead or whatever that said uh um that those are up for recycling So I went back to the shop, went into the office, went onto the computer, made a work order with the company letterhead that said Ray is allowed to recycle these batteries on blah blah blah date from blah blah whatever. Printed out an official repair order I signed it and then took it here.
and then they recycled my batteries. It was the the stupidest waste of time ever. All because people crackheads are stealing batteries from Walmart and then recycling them which is gum we're on hold. See the the hand? Uh oh oh.

I think he's back in that other truck up here before me. That big truck. Yeah. I think that's what they're doing now.

we got I got this big truck behind me I think he's trying to get on the scales too. Yeah, yeah, he's backing this dude up here first. I See what we're doing? Smart move because he was never going to swing that corner to make this scale. No way he'll have to back down over there in that parking lot.

Straighten up, they're leaving I Think it's my turn now. Yep, yeah. I wonder what this thing does? Is that like a detector potion sensor? Wait for my paperwork. Thirteen thousand and eighty pounds empty weight? That's uh.

truck trailer. I Don't have any fuel in the tank in the back? Maybe just like 30 gallons? 13 000. Okay uh, that was 240 dollars in Ferris scrap steel. I Mean man, that was like 3 000 pounds of steel.

Yeah, scrap life must be a hard life. No thanks. I will stick to my job. All right, let's get out of here.

We have to go back to work now. Enough screwing around trailers noisy with no load in it. Oh Steve Okie dokes we're pulling in I'm back in the trailer, back up to where I had it in front of the other trailer and then I'm gonna unload it again and then around unhitch the trailer again. Then eventually we're gonna get this stuff loaded into that dump and then we can haul that stuff uh, off to the uh, the scrap yard as well and get some of this mess and debris and whatnot clean up out of here.

But I'm Gonna Save that one for a uh for another day and another trip because I have a we've done enough. So that being said, I'm gonna go ahead and figure out how to get this trailer turned around doing like a 40 point turn and uh, we'll close this video out. So that being said, as always like thank you guys for watching this video. Hope you enjoyed this uh, kind of behind the scenes not actually working on cars type of video.
If you did enjoy this video, please feel free to let me know about that by tap that like button down below. Drop me a comment or two while you're down there. And most importantly, don't forget to have yourselves a great day! See you guys later in the video in a transmission in the Scrap metal run foreign down, they're unpinned, unlat and on the ground. Thank you.

Ray – pls. don't take this the wrong way, but it seems that you're missing an opportunity to do some final detailing (cleaning) as you're buttoning up things like an engine cover. I concede that a little extra "spit and polish" doesn't make anything run better, but when the primary work area cannot be seen, some evidence of cleaning sends a clear msg that you spent some effort in there. Great content as usual. Thx.

You have a werry nice and cool trailer 😀 wich we had that cind of trailer in Europe.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Hudick says:

You got a nifty ball lock for your trailer but you safety chains will make a great substitute if somebody wants to wrap them around their own ball hitch to drag your trailer out of your possession. My safety chains are attached to my trailer with threaded links and they get removed and installed for each trip. Takes about 2 minutes per side!!

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MCGrew Paul says:

Ray i sa a couple of converters in that pile…. most of those are worth quite a bit more than scrap.

The big white things on the side of the scale are radiation detectors to keep radioactive material out of the yard I worked at a scrap yard for a while and we also had a rail way scale and every once in a while a passing train would set off the detector and it would sound an alarm

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ahmad Ghosheh says:

Yup, metals and paper are best for recycling. I am not a shop but do a lot of diy stuff for others, rotors, metsls, even small parts like alternator or pumps, toss them in a barrel and take it to the scrap yard when full. Could make $30 on a shirt trip. Putting aluminum parts in a different barrel brings more money.

15 years ago scrapping paid historic high rates because China was buying. Now not so much but having bigger amount is still worthwhile and it makes sense to get paid rather than having to pay to dispose of,

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matt Hurley says:

I scrap things out but more for recycling than actually making money…if you figure your time,it’s not really worth it..but I prefer to things being reused vs thrown in landfills

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Emmett Turner says:

Seems the kind of place where you are almost guaranteed to get a tire puncture.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars orcoastgreenman says:

I think the sensors on the sides going into the scales may actually be radiation detectors, to prevent orphaned sources causing contamination of the recycled metal.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael King says:

Make sure to separate aluminum from steel.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard S says:

The scrap yard should know the difference between a new battery and an old one. So they must know the new battery is stolen over a used one.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eldon Howard says:

I don't see how someone could steal a battery from Wal-Mart. Not that I would do that.

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John E says:

You don't hook up your breakaway cable for the brakes on the trailer?

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 61 Rampy says:

I usually have enough junk to go to the scrapyard once or twice per year. Steel and iron pay very little. Copper and pop cans pay the best. Aluminum (other than cans) pays ok, but since aluminum is so light, you need a lot to make it worth your while. Still, it is still better than nothing, and is much better than throwing stuff away. BTW, when I take steel, I take everything-old nails, screws, scraps of steel cut from other pieces. It may not be much, but it adds up. (A couple of shops I worked at even took the chips of iron from turning drums and rotors- a bucketful gets pretty heavy)!

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Delgado says:

Did like the change of pace and the howto of shop metal recycling

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kenneth Bush says:

  60. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Adam Craig says:

You have to separate the metals.
If you scrap for 'all metal' price, then you'll get shit for payment.
3 small, window-unit air conditioners will scrap for $200+ if you separate the metals.

  61. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Hedrick says:

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but the scanner Ray went through i think it's a radiation detector. The scrap yard i go to has the same thing

  62. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Charlotte Lynch says:

You need to cover your trailer

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Kline says:

Scrap yards are definitely an interesting place. All sorts of weird stuff ends up there.

  64. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rob B says:

I did exact same thing scraping metal and aluminum here in Texas. Place had a chopper that beat everything down to golf ball size or smaller

  65. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Weakest Link says:

Used to have to haul scrap a couple times a month at the old shop I worked at. They made pretty good money off those truck loads of metal. It was usually a couple hundred dollars per load. Well worth recycling your metal. Every little bit of money helps when you're running a business.

  66. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DEVAL35 says:

scrapping metals is worthless now. I remember a few years ago I filled up a ford ranger and took it to the scrap yard and got close to $150. a year later I took a dodge ram full and it came out to weigh more than ranger, but I got around $50 at which point it was pointless. so from now on I just call my thrash company to pick up any large metal items that I'm throwing away.

  67. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven urben says:

The company i work for owns a bunch of other plants. I know they are as far south as south carolina

  68. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris says:

Why aren't you using the breakaway cable on your trailer? Looks to be zip tied up to the side of your trailers tongue.

  69. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steven urben says:

We recycle alot of wire for where i work in ny

  70. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Abes says:

Ray scrapers wait until scrap prices are high. Right now, they are really low.

  74. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stauffer Garage says:

Used to do that in college and always loved seeing the random cool sh** you see at scrap yards.

  75. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brandon Lanier says:

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jerry Porter says:

    That's a radiation detection device

  77. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BillFromAZ says:

for a moment…I thought that crane was tearing the 18 wheeler apart.

  78. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars zoidberg444 says:

Scrap price is in the toilet right now but its probably not worth the bother to hold on to it.

  79. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brad Kline says:

A day with Ray at the scrap yard and not a can of brake kleen anywhere in sight.

  80. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Synsr_1 says:

Scrapping is worth it depending on how the prices are really. Every yard offers different prices for everything. Most yards are willing to pay more for copper and brass. 450 pounds of copper and brass can be $700 at the yard I go too. Just depends on the prices, what your scrapping and how much of it you have.

  81. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jcadult101 says:

They also don't charge for nails/screws you take in your tires.

  82. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alex Machado says:

Yo ray you have to separate the tin/scrap From the short iron. It’s a huge difference, it would’ve been over 300$ if so. I do this for a living and been making 300-500 a day and that’s working 8am-1or 2pm. Not full days, but during better weather days I can work 7am-7pm and it’s easily 1k a day.
    Edit: including cats

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Fields says:

The black box with the cable on it is your trailers emergency breakaway brake, and should be hooked up to the truck as well. We use a keychain caribeaner and hook it to the safety chain pocket.

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donald Scott says:

    Yup nice dump trailer

  85. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Michajlo says:

I believe that is a radiation detector at the front of the scale.

  86. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jason Bell says:

It’s the next 40 years that are a drag
