I have done all my repairs for my life Iโm 50 and I have never found anyone that I would trust to do my repair but you you would be the only person I would trust to work on my truck you do the job the right way not the wrong way and the best way for the customer thatโs for your videos
My 2000 Cherokee Sport just had the oil pump go out while driving on interstate, there are 2 years for these motors and hard to find, I managed to find a good one for $750, and sheโs being installed as I write this๐๐
I feel badly for the owner of the vehicle. This should be a lesson that when buying a used car, have it inspected by a reputable and trusted mechanic BEFORE you buy it, unless you yourself are knowledgeable enough to do your own inspection. You won't find issues like the battery drain but you can sure find coolant in the oil pretty easy.
Over the years I have used a liquid glass head gasket sealer that works with coolant, and had good results. As a shop owner myself, I inform the owner of the problem, and that there is a chance it won't fix the problem, but if it last a year, or two, as some have , they can at least get some use out of it for a while.
I had a coolant consumption problem in an older car. It seemed to be holding pressure Ok but would just lose a little coolant. Could never figure it out until I changed the engine a couple of years later – the frost plug inside the bellhousing was leaking. I was lucky it didn't break open and dump all the coolant.
My son had a Jeep similar to this one and the head cracked on it. We couldn't find a new head or a descent motor to replace the original. My son had an adapter plate and a few other sundry items made up at a local machine shop and we dropped a supercharged 3.8 liter V6 out of a Pontiac Grand Prix. The thing is a bear now with 260 HP, better gas mileage than the 4.0 liter inline six, and was well worth the money to do the swap.

It is always the nice person who gets screwed over by jerks. I feel sorry for the lady…. But, your also a business. You have to be honest always with your customers and am very pleased that you are and also giving them all the options the good and bad points of each. Even a reman engine is no guarantee either…. as there is reman's and there is REMAN's some done professionally and well and some done …. well done……. Great video work Eric!!!!

For Future Reference for these 4.0L Jeeps. Clearwater Heads in Clearwater Florida does heads that prevents these common cracks between cyl 3 and 4 in the 99-00 heads.
quick oil change and Time to trade that puppy to the dealer
Drop a tube of aluminum seal into radiator give it a new oil change useing Lucas oil stabilizeer and drive it like you would every day keep an eye on the antifreeze problem solved
Try some stopleak.

I think it's crazy you found a cracked head through the oil cap! I'd be willing to bet it's not the only one. What would be the odds?
Can also be a transmission cooler failure had that happen to me and ruined a transmission

Just pull the thermostat and that'll reduce the pressure in the coolant system. The heater will just be a smidge cold.
I just had a Buick Century and had an intake gasket cracked. My cap looked like that too.
If it was my jeep, a reman cylinder head would be put on and drive it until it drives no more.
Just put some stop leak in it and send it lol

My son's 4L Jeep blew up the radiator in the drive thru line. Like a busted balloon. We replaced it and it happened again a few weeks later. Head gasket. Head was OK.
Could go into the transmission fluid also(through the cooler in radiator)

The engine is toast then.
I did a head on my XJ not too long ago.. crack between 3 and 4 cylinders .. The part was like 300 bucks and a 40 dollar gasket kit.. 2 12 packs and a weekend and she was done… if you have the tools it's absolutely worth doing this repair yourself… however .. once you pay labor to a shop you could easily exceed the value of one of these old Jeeps.

Question: on a 98 S10, 4.3, losing coolant this way. tested with the dye, no indication of exhaust gases in the coolant. Leaning heavily that it's intake gasket, but one weird thing: when testing for the exhaust gases in the coolant with the dye, the radiator seemed to have vacuum on it. I could pump the air from the radiator into the dye tester a few pumps with the little squeeze bulb, then the bulb would get pulled tight against the cap hole. In your experience(s), do you think that pretty much positively points to intake leak? Awesome channel, by the way.
Tell her to put some radiator stop leak in it, change the oil and sell it to the next sucker
My car's doing the same thing. Was low as heck on coolant. It was last refilled a year ago in February. I filled it up recently and it took over half a gallon. Lol. I did the oil recently. I couldnt tell if there was coolant in it though. It was sort of brown like you showed. I dont notice any particular smell so its not the heater core. And theres never white smoke out the exhaust pipe so its not going into the combustion chamber and burning. I think my head gasket might be otw out. Going to be selling and getting a new car as soon as i can though. Should I put some blue devil in it in the meantime (at least 3 months before i get a new car) and hope it holds up and seals any coolant leaks?
As a XJ or classic Cherokee guy, 2001-2000 had weak heads that tended to crack, only thing you can do it get a new head.
Probably started with a bad radiator (common) amd it ran out of coolant and overheated. When tbat happened it either warped the head or just outright blew the head gasket. Either way she will likely need a engine flush (to get rid of the coolant in the crankcase, and a head gasket/+ cylinder head. Matter of fact I have one in the shop with the exact same issue. Sent the head to our local machine shop and the head was warped 7 thousandths. Ordered a remanufactured head. It's expensive, but our customer wants to keep his old jeep because he does not trust the new Fiat garbage…but thats a whole different rant
So to answer a question that is being asked a lot. "Why don't I just slap a reman head on it for her." Great question. If I was a DIYer I'd go for it but I am a shop. Therefore I have to warranty my work and give the customer my best professional opinion. I see a rotted NYS Jeep with 200k on the engine and an oil pan full of sludge and an unknown history of coolant consumption. Let's say I advise her to put a head on it and it ends up being a $1200 repair (just a guess) Now I change the oil several times only to find out it is full of 20w50 from the previous owner to keep the engine quiet and the oil pressure up because the bearings are bad. So now I have the head on it, correct oil in it, she has a bill and the engine is still junk. Who wins in that situation? Or I slap a head on it and it works, then I am a hero. Not an advisable risk from a shop stand point IMO. -Cheers!
