Dude you are one of the best mechanics I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I been doing this for 25 years and run my own shop now. The way you approach things is spot on

do you shoot people when they bring abused vehicles in cux you should? the oil and rust on this thing is gross. why even fix that old pos? it should be sent to the graveyard or given to someone that is going to fix it and then take care of it.

Just saw this video and my 2011 Ford E-150 has the same setup. I have an oil pressure gauge on the dash that never moves. I learned from Wes (Watch Wes Work) that Ford has the same system… just a pressure switch. The gauge is worthless.

    That's a rust bucket

Makes sense it is an on off switch with no adjustment

Thank you I was able to see the plugs on exhuast

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rotaryskratch says:

Your oil pressure voltage numbers were probably skewed by using a test light to apply ground. Use a jumper wire, Power Probe, etc.
There's resistance in a test light (bulb filament) that adds resistance in the circuit during testing.

Today I was watching Rainman Ray and told people that I watch him and you. Ray was saying he was watching your Channel. People said I should subscribe to Ivan. Then on this one you mention Ivan. Weird how the wheel turns full circle. Random comment, really enjoyed the video. One question. You were completing the State Test for the Jeep. Did it pass? Did the bald tyre get changed or does that not factor into the test? Not from USA hence dumb question, sorry. Enjoyed the way you explained it on the white board. Set that in my mind. Kudos.

Wow fony single wire Oil pressure switch for the Guage now everyone will just unplug the switch so they always see Oil pressure 🤣 I am kidding don't do that people it will trick ya simple and needs a cheap Oil pressure switch @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC

i owned a cherokee chief long time ago …4WD…V8 i think it was….it burned a heckuva lot of gas, heavy, boxy….i took it onto the beach one day to see what would happen….15 feet later it was sunk up to the axles in sand….engaged the 4WD function and it just sat there….i left it running in gear and walked all around….one front wheel was spinning and one rear wheel was spinning and thats all it ever did…..that was jeeps "4WD" in the top of the line cherokee chief ….. finally i walked over to a nearby farm and paid a farmer to bring his tractor over and pull me back onto the road…….i hated that vehicle from that moment forward and got rid of it quick as i could and stayed away from jeep chrysler etc ever since

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Washer says:

I realize this is an old video but I'll comment on it all the same. This is VERY common on Fords. They put an "idiot gauge", lol, on the dash. Cheap bastards.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Johnny Sechrist says:

Time for a real mechanical oil pressure gauge.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bill Smith says:

Single wire sensor monitors current to ground through a static voltage. Come on you know that

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DamonCrowFeather says:

In all my worldly experiences.. I found that, by the time the idiot light comes on.. It's already too late.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars C. D. says:

I'd be more worried about those bald tires than the engine light if I was taking it in for inspection lol

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars S King says:

That jeep sure needs some tires on it! ☝️

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Sampson says:

Is the oil pressure switch different for a gage than it is for a light?

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Knorr says:

That switch can be an input to the computer for ac use. If oil pressure is low, ac clutch doesn't get power.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Viking 2121 says:

Yeah, Ford does that fake Oil pressure crap.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Michael says:

Now I know why my oil pressure is always the same on my WJ. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 1crazynordlander says:

My 2014 Ford Expedition had a fake oil pressure gauge. It would never vary with the engine speed.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ed Kummel says:

There's two mentalities when it comes to working on things…There's "by the book" and "getting it to work". For the purist, if it doesn't have the factor stock components, they wash their hands of it and say it can't be done. The other type sees a problem and develops a fix that works and doesn't cause any other issues. Which type do you want working on your stuff? For me, the latter….

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronald Bergeron says:

Could someone have replaced it with the wrong sensor ? Could it have had a variable sensor and not a switch sensor originally?

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Anthony Sharland says:

,hopefully You added some Air to those tyres. TPMS sensors are needed HAHA

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob C says:

I've watched several of your videos. Very informative. Thumbs up to you.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars heil b radar says:

Hi Eric, my 93 has a working gauge, w/ real numbers. Same dash panel configuration.
    Thanks

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter Keihner says:

I know this is an old video but did some digging with the oil pressure switch since i had a 2000 I-6 WJ, the pressure would always show 80+ PSI until you got on the highway and it would slowly go down and settle near 40 PSI. So I checked my current 2002 and 2003 both of which are v8s, I can confirm 2002 use a pressure sensor and the 2003 has a pressure switch. I just double checked the schematics and in the 2002 service manual it shows a 3 wire pressure sensor and the 03 service manual shows single wire pressure switch. Also 99-02 oil pressure gauge on the dash shows 0-40-80 as the later models just show a L and H. I guess they just wanted to save a few bucks as the model was getting older.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Justin Smith says:

My jeep, 92 xj, has the same single wire oil pressure sensor. Had my gauge peg out, at 80psi, looked at sensor, had oil coming out the back, replaced it and pressure went back to 40. I got no idea how it works

I assumed the sensor it created its own power, and then the ECM interpreted the voltage into a pressure, since the gauge does go up and down

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars uglysteve1 says:

Would that be the idiot light switch?

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dan's Learning Curve says:

Watching this again. Been long enough I'm seeing it again for the first time! LoL 😂😆
How much time did you spend on that O2 connector?! Probably more than you wanted!

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 44 Hawk says:

Does appear that there may be some suspension issues with the cupping that's on those tires

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 44 Hawk says:

703 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it does have a 4.7, but when my oil pressure switch showed 0. I reconnected the single wire and it showed me about half pressure. I have seen it very once in a while but not greatly. Due notice that if I put about half a bottle of STP and it I'm showing a little bit higher oil pressure so I don't know what the world's going on with that . The other differences is my well pressure settings unit is right up on top of the engine. I have no idea why add oil pressure switch would be down right above the starter. But I haven't worked on off 4 liter inline 6 in quite some time.
I will check into it a bit more. Perhaps even do a direct Reed instrument test.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike Cano says:

01 Ford Explorer has the same gauge switch!

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mister Mr says:

The "California" emissions versions of these 4.0l Wjs are a pain in the ass. They've got 4 O2 sensors and three little precats instead of a big main cat.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Threm says:

It would be nice if you had a menu and then I can ask for the vehicle that I want to work on you'd make some big money then

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Dittler says:

How long is the drive cycle for this? I have the same car with an evap code…I cleared the code and light is off but how long won’t the drive cycle actually be?

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars followtheevidence says:

Much respect for your skills and knowledge brother!

Nice light that fits in every slot. Is that the Skinnylight. The latest comes with multi facet magnet holder for ultimate handsfree operation.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MrJoey1570 says:

My 2001 cherokee oil pressure sending unit fell apart as I was removing it,it had oil fouled inside from leaking and the inside of it is a small circuit board I think it does more than simple send pressure confirmation
