In this video Eric O. does a little work outside the shop. He is at home replacing the front brake calipers on his 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now this is just a beater so don't get to pumped up about the cheap parts and crappy install! It is used for off road use only! -Enjoy

I was always taught to put the wheel under the car as "emergency" axle stands, in case the jack failed.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Greg Hamilton says:

Should have changed the hose as well. You know they are bad to rot from the inside out. They cause more problems than calipers!

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Bradfield says:

In response to a few comments about the jack and no safety stands; when I was 18, (I’m 67 now) , I was replacing the starter on my 69 Nova SS 396 in my front yard using only the factory bumper jack. While under the car, the jack failed. The control arm pressed my head into the ground and my hand was caught under the tire with a wrench under my fingers. The neighbors ran to rescue and tried to lift the car off me to no avail. They then re jacked the car enough to remove me from down under. All I can say is thank goodness we had soft ground. The aftermath? Per the X-rays, no broken fingers, or cracked skull, but I had a crease across my forehead for about 10 years. My mother was watching all this from the front porch and chastised me afterwards about my language during the event. Still loved that car!

I was amazed that I didn't bleed the brake caliper but one round on my 03 Chevy Express 2500. A few times backing it up and the pedal is firm, done. That was two years ago plus.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars phil merrifield says:

Great tip for the DIY'er:if using a jack and you don't have a jack stand, put the tyre underneath behind the axle you're working on and if your jack fails you won't lose your fingers 😁

I just bought an 09 F150 a couple of months ago and the drivers side caliper almost fell off. One bolt was gone, the other one was held in by about 3 or four threads. This was at the bracket to the steering knuckle bolt so they couldn't even blame the re-manufacturer. Concur, tighten the fuck out of them.

You have very nice dogs and a nice property. I noticed some algae in the pond where your dogs swim. Please be wary of blue-green algae. If you have any of that stuff in your pond, it can be deadly to your dogs. I'd hate to see them getting hurt. In any case, keep posting your videos… I enjoy them very much. Cheers!

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andy Davidson says:

99 models have weak brakes. Prone to warping the rotors. They can be easily upgraded to later Grand Cherokee models.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Grimes says:

heres how to bleed brake solo (with very good results): take a few feet of aquarium tubing or similar, drill hole in small bottle and insert tube, connect tube to bleeder. The tube must immediately go up and then loop it overe soomething like the side mirror or something, as long as tthe tube is a straight shot up. crack tthe bleeder just enough to flow a good amount. pump brake slowly and hold for a couple seconds each time down. when you hold down, all the air will flow up the tube and the fluid will go down. if you do it right, you will have better results then any other way there is. once you know how too set it up it takes about 5 minutes to bleed all 4 tires and have ALL the air out.

Sooooooooooo…..how much play should be in the pad slots after cleaning ? I’ve had some new pads I thought were too snug and might not release after braking especially after dirt gets in the slots. I file them down a bit.
