Come along as I have a look at a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a customer complaint of no A/C. It is a pretty easy diag after gathering a little bit of data and following the facts.

I own a MS 906 BT. It's awesome. No wire to drag around is a blessing. And I can cast to my laptop with TeamViewer. I think you should do a video of that for viewers.

I vote for you to show us your soldering skills. I'll bet a pcb relay would cost a few bucks. Ivan would do it !!

they used to say people would trade in cars when the ash tray got full. now they get rid of it when the power dist centers fails. too bad.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Samuel James says:

Couldn't you just tap in an external relay to do the job.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rick West says:

Come on Eric, Ivan would bypass that relay with an external relay. 😂😂

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ERIC M JUNKER says:

Just blame it on covid and you dont have to make replacement parts anymore. So now its only worth half as much.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Maverick Wagner says:

Time to just bypass that relay and add your own. Looks like there is even a empty slot in that fuse box that could be used.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ed Chenal says:

Should see if SuperMarioDiag would tackle repairing the box

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wrights RR&T says:

The scan tools also do relay testing turning them on and of and you just listen to make sure they click back and forth but im sure you know that, it just sucks that there's so many mechanics out there who don't mess with electric issues and trouble shooting them anymore.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! Wes Hutchinson says:

Pull it out and add an external relay, easy enuff and help out your customer. Few inches of wire and a soldering gun with a generic relay of the correct ampacity.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ashley Woodhouse says:

Remember the days when you could pull out the part and send it to a instrument repairer and you would get it back 2 days later!

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars avid dyi'er says:

As an advanced DIYer, I love my Autel 906bt MaxiSys. I've had it for about 3 years now, and it's paid for itself several times over. Love the bidirectional control, live data, module VIN writing, key programming, etc. Of course, the tool is only as good as the person using it which is why I love learning from your channel.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jack says:

Nice work. The owner's gotta find someone to splice in a relay around the failed built-in. I'm glad I drive an old Honda.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bugdog9 says:

    Love it best mechanic ever

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Creig Mac says:

    Lesson of the day.

    Don't buy a Fiat Jeep.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The98deville says:

My father and I had brand new 2003 Dodge Rams, mine had the 4.7 V8 and an open differential and his had the Hemi and a limited slip, mine was blue and his was green, they were otherwise identical, everything that happened to one happened to the other within a few hundred miles of the other, warped brake rotors around 12,000 miles, transmission shift lever broke at under 6,000 miles, rear end went out around 29k miles. Never again for me.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Anthony Hayden says:

I guess I’ve been lucky, I own the diesel model and have never had an issue with it, I replaced the parts that are known to fail like the hose in the valley and keep her well maintained. Parts in Australia are ridiculously priced but I’d still prefer American than Chinese.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phillip Jones says:

It’s got to the point you can’t do it anymore because of everything you stated and the way the world is on parts I don’t want to get banned from your channel lol

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ivan Vojt says:

Companies exist that can rebuild that PDC.

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bryan Phipps says:

Jeez, looks pretty new for a problem like that.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars David Goldberg says:

No parts at the wrecking yard?

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars tazmun says:

I have learned working for a company there are issues reengineering things. It is assumed that the engineers who designed the product and the factories that created the product took the safest and best way for the consumer of the product. Boiling down what I’m trying to say into fewer words you can have a lot of legal difficulties over troubles like this if you just decide to reengineer it on your own unless it is your own and even then I wouldn’t be blabbing about my great repair.

What I do wonder is about the possibility of taking the power distribution center out and giving it to an electronics repair shop to fix the relay issues and then again you reinstall upon the repair. My questions would be Will there be issues about the electronic repair shop not being licensed or certified to work on automotive products.

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Craig Smith says:

Back ordered for two years? Let Mrs. O. try her hand at soldering.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lance Corey says:

Someone should tell Chrysler that there are transistors that can replace those relays.

  50. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alex Swavely says:

Bypass or ship the box to Ivan, he's a good NPR solderer.

  51. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars T Bone says:

Why could you not add a external relay?

  52. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars hahaha12345678993 says:

would a trip to wilberts you pull it be a better solution?

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars OLD SCHOOL says:

Eric, I hope you are doing training on EV's, because you are still a young guy and the IC cars are on the way out along with all this complex wiring and impossible to fix modules.

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars silentjde says:

A lot of time the pins are burned and melted in the connector, always check that as well.

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Derek Friday says:

2 year back order. Shows the failure rate and how bad chrysler is with keeping cars on the road for any length of time. What a shame

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Death Cooties says:

The greatest lesson I have learned from you is to stop assuming. To identify the issue and follow the facts wherever that leads. Thank you.

  57. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark McKinley says:

Guess8ng with a bit of searching there are rebuilders for that issue just like on the TIPMs. Hope can get fixed. Terrible idea to not make relays replacable.

  58. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Knocky Wigglesworth says:

We just add an external relay for any failed relay. Not hard, not expensive, & no more non replaceable relay!

  59. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Olko says:

Eric, "Typical Chrysler piece of Garb@@e". I love it!

  60. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ricky Crews says:

I have a 2015 Hyundai Tucson everything works on the a/c but no cold air

  61. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ted Schmaltz says:

I've watched and enjoyed a lot of your content, and I can't help but get the impression that you don't care for Chrysler's build quality….

  62. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Melvin Jones says:

The old back order problem is great for the Junk yard the guy that owns the junk yard just raised his price after seeing this video.

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter Hodgkins says:

"… on back order for 2 years …". And THAT is why it's at your shop. Someone was hoping you'd pull a technical rabbit out of your hat I'm bettin'… 😉 Can you imagine making the call, ordering the part, waiting a year only to have it show up and NOT fix the problem? No shop wants that liability!

    Good job as always!

  64. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Smith says:

I don't need no stinking AC on my 1953 Plymouth flathead straight 6…….

  65. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Snoopy says:

    Planned obsolescence

  66. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars murphymb says:

400 bucks for what amounts to a new relay, good ol' Fiat Chrysler, now Stellantis owned, (parent company of Peugot). That'll help the quality🤣🤣

  67. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D j says:

    I like it , thanks again 👍

  68. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars D j says:

The autel didn't show up below

  69. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Louis Harris says:

Had a new customer come in with a no AC issue. They stated that the dealership said they needed a compressor. System was full of freon but no power was going to the compressor no codes And the relay was working with power on both sides. Started checking the harness and found a place that was cleaner , pulled back the wire wrap and found that the wire going to the compressor was cut,. It was a clean cut that looked like it was done with a pair of dikes. Fixed the wire, charged the customer and said done

  70. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bolt Husky says:

There are more than a couple of ways to fix that, all with stuff you have laying in that shop, all in less than the time it’d take to make a video about it.

  71. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ViperTech says:

Work on Chryslers for a living see this problem all the time and also see fuses melted in the box poor connection esp. on headlights,

  72. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dbinok says:

From what it sounds like it would be a relatively easy to replace the relay since you can't get the part new. If you did not want to get into pcb repair, you could send the customer over the Ivan to replace the relay.

  73. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Me Jesse says:

Is he saying, ship it to Ivan? Mrs. "O"

  74. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Eakes says:

Eric you are probably 1 of the best and smartest Mechanic's I have ever seen. Good job

  75. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Budds36 says:

Looks like it's time to go to the auto yard and get a used one.

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars AkshonClip says:

They need to put a flashing light on the OBD dongle so you don’t forget it in a customers car.
Even an 18” piece of bright red rope would work. 😂

  77. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gunga Dinn says:

I went to my local Ford dealership part department looking for OEM exhaust manifolds for a 5.4 in a E350 van. No stock and a 6 week back log on getting passenger side, 10 weeks for drivers.

Seeing how I'm going to have to stud weld to 10 out of 16 exhaust studs, the wait time for parts might coincide.
