Ah the old 1 wheel brake job.
It's a common problem in keeps. The bulb over heats for some reason. I changed mine to LEDs. No problem yet
best honest mechanic. Most shops where in live will replace something over $500 and low key replace the cheaper part. I spent $12,000 in repairs on a old grand caravan and it was the biggest mistake in my life. the mechanic never replaced the parts with new ones. I went trough 2 engines 3 transmissions and 2 ac rebuilds. I am willing to drive from California to get my cars fixed at your place.
Your powers of observation have no equal and is so important when tracking down a problem. Knowing what normal is when something is broken can quickly get you pointed in the right direction.
I always use Dow Corning Dielectric grease in the connectors and sockets. Keeps the crud out.
Love it 3mins work, 1hr labor, 2hrs passed on to the customer when delivered to the other shop…. If I lived near SMA would only go there

I was taught that it was called "Going down the garden path." Great teachers have had such an influence on my trouble shooting skills. It is also fun to watch the new, book smart techs get out smarted by old school street smart techs.
Also sad that a 3 year old Jeep has such horrific electrical issues. They're literally making disposable cars and selling a price-point.

Happened on my 68 Ford. License light had a short, would trip a breaker built into the headlight switch.

Eric, I got a 2004 ford explorer every time i shut the car off shortly after the gauge needles flicker down below for couple of seconds it has done this ever since i have had it (2 years) I have upgraded all the ground wires. Starts up fine no issues just don't understand why the gauges do this? its a common thing in these
Electrical Problems in all Jeep products can be traced back to plugged AC drain ports. 😁
Seems like a design flaw by Chrysler (surprising no one). Need a seal on those plate light covers for northern areas where they use road salt.
Dealership tech here and I see those LED modules fail short all the time. Never seen it in the connector, but then I'm not exactly in the salt belt. Nice find, Eric!

As a 10 year Chrysler dealer tech, my first thought was the TIPM. We got my wife a new 2012 Chrysler 200 in May, wipers quit working in July at 2069mi, our electrical genius helped me narrow it to a bad TIPM. Eric O takes the time time to do the right diag. We need more technicians in dealerships that don’t throw parts on and cross their fingers. Just because its a common failure part doesn’t mean its the problem.
Had a Jeep WJ with several weird electrical issues but I like how you simplify diagnosis and keep things simple in the explanation. Electrical issues make my head feel like it will explode sometimes. Having a good wiring diagram would be a good start as well but you found this one very quickly. Thank you for making the video.

For those DIY people, Jeep dealers may tell you the LED license lamps are not replaceable and you have to buy a complete assembly for big $$$. Resourceful guys have found those same LED lamps used on Fiat 500 for about $20 or at Rock Auto for $8 (PN 68228931AA)
Fiat Crapler …..why make something simple when hard is so much easier? That company should have died in 1980 when it had a chance to. TIPM this…
So Eric gets it in 5 minutes and the other guys are helpless if the scan tool doesn't show a code. It's very rare to find a mechanic who is both skilled and honest. A tribute to Eric and a sad indictment of America, I think.
Eric gave some damn good advice at the end. Don't assume anything, do your job, diagnose using common sense, let the vehicle tell you what is wrong or right! Smart guy all around.
My Dear Boy! If you were working on English vehicles, you would have automatically reached for the replacement Lucas smoke.

I guess it’s easy to learn how to work on Chrysler products. They give you so much practice.
I went to Auto Tech school back in 1989. The first day of Electrical workshop the instructor told us that everything electrical contains "magic smoke" and that's what makes it work. Then he took a piece of 16 gauge wire and connected it across the two terminals of a 12 volt car battery. The wire started smoking as the insulation started to melt. He told us he had just let the "magic smoke" out of the wire so now it was no good. Some things never change. Thanks again for a really great and useful vid Dr. O.

Sometimes it's just the simple stuff.
I’d love to hear the service writer for the other shop telling the truth to the customer, “Yeah we had no idea what we were doing so we sent it down the street to another guy who’s amazing at this stuff. So anyways please keep coming back to our shop in the future for all your car repair needs”.
