That's a well calibrated torque wrench there – available from your online store no doubt, but I'm sure they sell out fast due to their exceedingly low price point.
A couple cents of baking soda dissolved in a little water will make that battery corrosion disappear in a couple of minutes. Just rinse the thing off with clean water, and if you are fancy put some grease or patented battery terminal protector on afterward.

My first experience of someone jumping a starter, when I first started at a shop as a oil lube tech way back when, a tech had a truck in his bay, an early 90’s F150 and the shifter was messed up and the car was in reverse, him and a manager were doing something on the car and I remember the manger saying “here just give me a screwdriver”, well he jumped the starter and immediately the tires squealed and the car shot backwards out the bay, the two of them tried hanging onto the bumper with utter failure, one of the other guys chased it out of the shop and tried reaching through the window and failed, the trucked ended up smashing right into the front bumper of the tech that was working on it who had his truck parked out back. Definitely gave me an early experience of making sure you know damn well what you’re doing and don’t get sloppy lol

Hi ERICOFARMER, and the lovely Mrs. O. I worked on forklifts for a while and the had alot of electrical parts that were the same as GM and some Fords but I couldn't believe how much more expensive (mark up) they are (rip off).
Electrolyte level low; acid concentration goes up; crusties form to lower the concentration. I'd check the electrolyte levels in the cells before a plate gets exposed and the battery's junk.

I noticed that the JD battery hold down is the same dippy setup I have on my 24 year old Cub Cadet. I never liked that hold down arrangement because it always looks like it could slip and short the battery. I eventually replaced my hold down with a piece of 1×2 board and some threaded rod to pull down instead of from the side.
When you mentioned the 4 volt drop across the solenoid and the symptoms of it sometimes taking several tries before the starter would work my mind went back to my 72 Olds Cutlass. About a month after I got it I started having the old hard start issue with the starter not cranking until you tried it 2 or 3 times. When I went to take it off to fix it I saw the nightmare that was going to happen if I started taking the exhaust pipe off so I could get the starter out of the tight spot it was in. So I tried the old take the battery cable off, loosen the back nut on the battery bolt on the solenoid and rotate it half a turn, then put it back together. It worked. I never had another problem out of that starter. After the car was hit in two separate accidents and totaled, I pulled the engine and transmission to put in a 67 Ford pickup. My concern about pulling the exhaust pipe was confirmed but having the engine out made getting the broken studs out much easier. That 350 Rocket engine made that pickup a nightmare to drive. The only person who never had any problem driving it was my very petite wife. I had it turn around in the road a few times unintentionally before I got the hang of driving it and one guy at a tire shop nearly ran through the shop with it. If you didn't know what it would do it would take off like a bat out of well you know what I mean.

Car Repair Shop and a Farm. I've seen you slip and slide around in the vehicle but thought it was random land. Nice piece of property there Mr O. Loving that the Deer and feeding themselves and feeding you. You could do with an at Home Channel like Ray with everything you got going on at the Homestead especially with hunting season and off roading. But then again when would you get some down time just to relax or are you on the go every working hour? You have such a way of explaining and are entertaining to watch. One extra thing I get from the channel which is a biggy for me is an understanding of how and why things fail and how you replace them. This gives me a bit more knowledge when I book in for a repair. Shame shame going non-OEM! As someone that just dropped an obscene amount of money on green hay roller parts today, I completely understand. I NEVER buy JD starters for any of my green stuff. They are just too proud of those suckers. If I have to replace an aftermarket starter 4 times for every OEM starter, I am still money ahead. Now if that tractor was a mid 90’s 5400, it might be a different story. That was the only starter swap I’ve ever done that involved and air hammer. Even with all of the right tools, decades of experience and help from someone with half a century of experience, that was the worst starter job of my life! Heck, splitting the dang tractor in half to install new clutches was much easier than the starter swap. Only had to do it once in 25yrs though. I still say it was the best small tractor ever made.

Many a time on cars, trucks, or heavy equipment you have that darn lower starter bolt or nut you can't see and it's a blind install at a strange angle. Joy when you get the threads engaged and it goes on smoothly or end of the day and your hand cramps up and you can't even withdraw for a while. Of course that never happens😁 Fun video!
I got a new starter for my JD riding mower same brand DB electric from Amazon and so far is working nicely. much less $

I have a 5075E and I always wondered about the engine knocking sound. It's different than my 6.7 Cummings and my 3 cylinder Kubota, but your tractor sounds just like mine so I guess I'm okay

Did a brake job on one wheel Denali Yukon holy crap that's big parts. Metal on metal pads so full replacement one and a half cans of brake clean ,is that about right??

I use Baking Soda to clean the battery contacts and battery box. A rinse to flush away an residue.
A little Lithium grease on the terminals and you’re good to go.

Up here in my part of the People's Republic it isn't common to see any of these little plots. I was down in your neck of the woods flying gliders a couple years ago and it took me a couple three four looks to figure out why I kept seeing these tiny little cornfields in the woods at the top of the hills.
