In this video I have a look at a Kia Rio that came in to be diagnosed for a code P0501. It is a code for a speed sensor but the car does not have ABS. The customer did his own repairs and just wanted it diagnosed. -Enjoy!

I have an 08 rio5 w/ 98,000 miles and 5 speed manual. Got it for $500.00 from an old dude who stopped driving. It sat outside for 2 years un driven. I put a battery in it and it fired right up. Changed the timing belt and all the fluids and she runs great. Was gonna flip it but it runs so good and it's so cheap and easy to work on I decided to keep it. It's as bare bones as you can get…manual windows/locks, no cruise control, not even an arm rest on the seats. It's a lot of fun to drive though.
Part of me wondered, "If he goes from 198 to zero too fast, will the ECM override the airbag sensors and deploy?!"
I wish you were closer 🙁 my gfs Kia has p0501 I changed the front rh speed sensor didn’t do a thing, cleaned the teeth and inspected them no issue there but I’m not getting any ac voltage when I spin the wheel, I need to get this thing inspected and nobody in my small town has the capability and smarts you do 😭
Good afternoon. Tell me, error P0501 popped up after replacing the wheel bearing. I changed the wheel speed sensor, but the error never went away. I checked both the fuses and the sensor and the wires in the ECU and the metal gear on which the sensor should be triggered all the rules. The gap between the sensor and the gear is 0.7 mm. The voltage in the terminals coming to the sensor from the ECU is in the first 2.4V, and in the second 2.5 V. The problem did not dare. What else could be the problem? Electricians cannot identify. A car on a manual transmission 1.4 2007 without ABS.
You forgot to say, "Napa: not a sponsor." 🙂
I mean.. it's a horn.. what more do you need. Press button = make noise…
Did you got it fixed?
I have same issues P0501 I replaced both front sensors and still P0501 pop up ! Please help
I've seen first responders cut or rip out the horn wire at the scene of an accident when the horn is stuck on.
What sailor did you steal that cap from. That is part of an issued sailor uniform and is called a watch cap.
We always believe you!
hot little car
I’d like to see a video showing exactly how you simulated the sensor with the scope please and thank you
Blow baby, blow …
If you’re a vehicle designer and you don’t watch at least one of these real world automotive repair channels like SMA or watch Wes work, then you really should consider a different career path
YOU KNOW ERIC ,when i was a young boy my dad used to call all 10 of us kids out into the driveway after he got home from work at the auto plant. We each had a plastic snow cone cup,and he would say WHO WANTS DESERT BEFORE DINNER? Then he would scope up the snow off the roof of his beat up old Plymouth and say there you go guys and we would run inside where our mother would give us SYRUP ,made out of koolade packs and sugar.when we got to be about 10 years old he gave us boys JACK DANIELS from the bottle he kept under the front seat.GEE WE MISS HIM!!!
Absolutely great video.
he should stop tooting his own horn……..
You still talk to the car. Talk to the CAMERA!
I rarely get notifications about your videos anymore. I have the bell set to all, so I can't figure it out. Its getting worse too. I used to at least get them on my phone, now, not so much… It upsets me because I always look forward to them…
198 miles an hour in a Kia?!? No fekkin' way they'd git me to do that! Haint 'nuf money on this good earth. Rather kick an Ol warty hog in th' nards an stand ther an smile at 'im. Th' Ol' Lady dinna raise no fool. Heylo there Mr. Eric, love to watch your channel ever since retiring. Spent 51 years as a drivability tech (took electronics four years in grade and high school, and also at vocational-tech school) and used what I learned at auto shops. Loved what I did and would do it again. Watch your channel to keep up with the times. You should teach, you would do well. You explain in an easy to grasp manner. As a lead tech I had to train newbies and used a hands on approach to teaching, much like you do. (Don't let yer head git to swollen now!) Thanks for spreading your wisdom to all. Whether they take it in or not is their problem. Yes I am talking about you 28 dislikes. You can never stop learning. Anywho, shouting at ya from Nastyville,Tennisshoe. The home of the non-rusted undercarriage. (You keep on believing that!) God bless you and the Missus, hope y'all stay safe and well in these wild and wooly times. See Ya!!……..
So ABS was not mandatory before Sep 2013. In the EU it was 2004. I find it amazing because a backup camera was made mandatory in 2018 in USA but ABS they did not think was that important lol.
I was waiting for you to find the frequency that generated 88MPH…
I’m so frustrated, I had 7 mechanics already look at my car and no one has been able to find out what the problem is. When I drive my 2010 Dodge Charger and take my foot off the gas paddle you can hear a weird noise, it almost sound like you stick a stick in a running fan, you can’t hear it when in park and engine running only while driving. Do you have any idea ?
HI Eric Sir, can you please give the model of the AES SCOPE? I tried typing it in on Amazon and on eBay with Clicking on the Amazon link w/o pic down Below it goes to something that is a $1. I'll take a 100 of the scopes for your $1! Lol.Also scrolled through the tools side of your Amazon tools. Thanks for your help Sir Eric!
1.6 is big?
My favorite mechanic. Wish I lived near to him.
I wish I had that kind of time doing things twice. Lol
Spending time to diagnose find the issue then go back record everything again like it was the first lol 😆
Hey Mr. Eric O with all the rust up there you never get any torsion bars or keys repairs that would make a good video
Thought I saw a connection on lab scope when you wiggled it
Never assume new is good, it could mean worse.
KIA says it all……………..Killed In Action!
What if that Kia goes over 198mph? lol
Hey Eric, does Mrs. O know you're swiping her sewing pins again?
Lol a 2009 vehicle without ABS, here in europe it had been standard for 10 years.
what the heck american market…
Wo,Wo,Wo!!! Where's the Jeep cap??
You should upload a another snap on truck tour you can get more content
Nice one buddy 👍
Poor fella lost his car insurance discount…they say he had his Kia up over 190 MPH!! Ouch!!!
I believe ya
