My dad (mechanic) always said… Fully on or fully off that way you don't forget to tighten something. He had a close call with lug nuts he hand put on but had forgotten to tighten and ever since then he abided by his rule above so there was no room for error. If its fully on then its there to stay and if its not then it reminds him he still has do to it but there can be 0 mistake because its not on partially and not tight.
My dad said; "A good mechanic is not one who makes no mistakes but one who knows how to correct his mistakes and learn from it."
Actually, the worst thing I can think of is locusts with a nuclear weapon, but irregardless…
Self check – we all make mistakes … no truer words. Kudos!
This why I put paint marker over every bolt I touched after torquing it down
Ray you seem to have left your temp gauge in that ferd F150 with the bad temp sensor.
Did Ray say that he likes OVERKILL or OVERSPILL?
Youre a good man Ray…and one hell of a Technician
I like your honesty we’re not perfect we make mistakes everyday like your work ethic. I like the way you degreasing the undercarriage. Was that plain water or what cleaning solution you used and that AC device what is the name of it and where did you get it?
Had to use the AC cleaner because he used up all the brake cleaner😂
Mistakes happen, but by checking your work, NO one knows about it but your and a few of your friends watching this video. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not gonna tell on Ray. The customer doesn't have to know, nor does he have a puddle to worry with. NO HARM, NO FOUL. GOOD JOB RAY.
One time a guy I worked with forgot to tighten the cap, and fuel inductioned his face.
Good honest video. I'm an aviation inspector/mechanic, and we're very careful about distractions, but when it does happen we call it "broken work". One new mechanic put an air filter in backwards on a Cessna, causing it to crash on take off killing 4 people. So we always say never start any work on an aircraft that you don't finish, and if your not sure ask somebody.
You also forgot to use a flare nut wrench spanner to tighten it.
PS: Your videos are awesome to watch!. Thank you!
Doughnut LOL.
At least you double checked 🙂
It's not a mistake if you catch it yourself
Hey ray, your human!
Ray ray u got a link for the flush kit canister??
Small oversight…just like a rag in the lifter valley.
good call sir
I would say you caught it on the "R" in "STAR" (STOP, THINK, ACT, REVIEW)…
I’ve been the customer of someone who’d been distracted. He forgot to finish tightening my air intake manifold.
have you ever heard of the ozone layer…I am guessing not the way you spray the brake clean and other chemicals around
Mr.O always checks his work, I guess you have to go to upstate New York for good service
Great advice Ray! Even the best mechanics can make mistakes, but the best also are more careful and realize it's possible. 😉
Ever do that again 🤔
Great video with a very important message 👍
It takes a real man to admit it when he's made a mistake, good on ya mate
Just a week ago I made a boo boo, because I was stupid tired. Changing tie rod boots, had to get it to an alignment shop the next morning. Forgot to tighten a tie rod jam nut and found it later when I checked.
We all make mistakes but I try not to work tired or in a hurry, and of course, check things.
that was overspill ha!
In some cases people only get to make one mistake and it is their last, like a new learner driver having a bad crash and dying.
Those aerosol cleaners are deadly poison, wear a mask.
Ray, you have my admiration for your work !!
will there be the rack replacement video
Your honesty and integrity are only surpassed by your ability to provide interesting content. I might have missed it, but where do you provide this level of professionalism? I am moving to Fla, and it would be nice to move close to a great mechanic
This shows the value of cleaning residue after repairs to easily find oversights.
The super douche under car cleaner!
Kudos for the Mea Culpa!
It looked like a loose subframe bolt there too?
Great point Ray. I'm an electrician. We do a lot of automatic standby generators which involves re-routing and changing a homes main electrical feed. I always check all my connections to make sure they are right and tight before i restore power to the home. I also go over all the connections inside the main electrical panel before i finish. Countless times i have found loose or broken wires even though i didn't touch those particular wires. It only takes a minute and it may save a headache in the future.
Hi from uk ray👍👋 YOUR ONLY HUMAN 👌 and honest one at that 👍when I do suspension parts I always nip nuts/bolts then lower car and nip again as the can break loose as components settle again one day I got asked to do bulb so did bulb and sent both cars up road, the Vauxhall came back with knock and upon changing bulb I lost my bearings and must mot of checked my work but 1 nut broke loose on drop link and started backing off. Customer was mint tho looked after him for years but now I always finish what am doin or a process before goin to assist or doing quick jobs inbetween (we only human but your awesome human tho 👌) thanks for your time sir be safe and see you soon👋👍
A more sustainable method. Love it
what did Father Petey tell you to do for your penance?
I'm the same, to the point that I feel I have some compulsive disorder to repeatedly check my work to make sure its 100%
Dodgy car sale yards don't bother lv seen plenty leaks under cars work over 25 years year that be right clean it so it doesn't show.
It's not like you sent a rebuilt engine out with the crank in backwards…..
Good call Ray. Even the best make some mistakes and you are honest about it. So simple to bypass one little thing doing mechanical work
👍🏻
Honest
A short video with a powerful message.
You are still one of the best technicians I’ve ever seen
