Ray, it would be handy if you put a link in Part 1 to this video as after I followed the link to Part 1 I couldn't find my may back to this video without doing a search. Thanks. BTW, your "Yes, it's doing it! It's doing it!" was marvelous. I've been there and it is only a second to that feeling when a stuck nut/bolt breaks free (without breaking 🙂).

Yeah…would have thought limiters were mechanically set

Well done, Ray. I hate these things, they are a problem waiting to happen. Who needs a motor and various solenoids to open a liftgate? Only that strange subspecies of human, people who buy new cars.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jay Baker says:

Isn’t it more an engaging solenoid rather than a locking solenoid? Just wondering.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ronald Anderson says:

Did you know from experience about that "trick" or did you just get lucky? If the latter, you ARE the auto whisperer.

I really like the philosophy of getting the harder-to-reach fasteners first.
it's like the meal philosophy I learned as a kid. "Eat the Brussels sprouts first to get them off the plate, and use the rest of the meal to help erase the taste."

Factory parts that's the way to go. Pay once!

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jim Schaefer says:

Hey, Rainman, have you ever had experience with fixing cars under an "extended warranty"? Do they dictate what parts you need to use (new vs used)? Does the shop have trouble getting paid? I personally don't think they're worth the money, but what experience have you had? Enjoy your videos, even though I pretty much should not be allowed near an engine!

There is no way this happened. I have the same year and model van. Got it dirt cheap with a blown transmission. And the same issue with the rear door motor not working. I was just going to leave it alone. After this video of yours, I fixed it. Thank you sir for this content and well narrated video. This van of mine is in like new condition with a rebuilt trans and now a working lift motor.
By the way the miles on this van is a staggering 231068 miles. And runs drives like a brand new one. Looks nothing like it’s age.
I didn’t do any thing to have to collaborate the part. It worked right out the box as it should have. Don’t know what happened with this in the video.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Neil Hogan says:

It takes a slight turn on the gears to over come the pressure on the gas stay .

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 85lebaront2 says:

Looks like the one we had, damn liftgate drove the dealer crazy. I still have the latch they replaced that didn't fix it. Anytime the temperature was below 70 it wouldn't open or close correctly.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jim Fortune says:

I was imagining you putting it all back together, then finding out there was a recalibration button on the motor…

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Danny Stephens says:

I am glad to see you go that extra mile for perfection, good job.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars vic malson says:

this is a cost why is this even a thing are we too damn lazy to open things really ??? this is the problem you keep buying it they will keep building it its a parts world and not good parts we use to take GMC FORD chevy and others and build great cars AMC parts from us you was able to rebuild something i dont think we save anything by doing this back in the day when i did this we could fix stuff now you need tools that cost more than the car and tech that know how to use them for what i ask?????

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars vic malson says:

same way of thinking not why it happened but how it happened like the game of clue well done keep doing you

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jay B says:

I would had lightly greased the gears.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phillip Dewitt says:

I learned a few i things on this one 👍

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Hanes says:

To hold a screw on the end of a screwdriver for starting it, take a short piece of electrical tape and poke the screw through it from the sticky side, tape it onto the tip of the screwdriver by pulling the tape back along the shank. After the screw is started just pull the the screwdriver back and the screw head will just pull througt the tape. Chewing gum works also but not as solidly and you have to chew all the flavor out before it gets sticky enough.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kewlzter TC says:

People are so lazy. An automatic door is nice when it works, but not critical enough to repair.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Aaron Britt says:

If you ever have a Nissan Versa or Murano with liftgate that won't open, the problem isn't in the liftgate. It's the right front door lock actuator. The ground for the rear liftgate goes through the RF door lock actuator and it's a common failure point. Just thought I'd pass that along.
