I just got back inside from doing a radiator flush on my 1986 Toyota Hilux.
It wasn't always a Toyota thing. They've just gone the way of all the other OEMs over time.

I need new gaskets for my valve cover 07 Tacoma 4.0, first thought, can't be too hard, I've rebuilt engines! Take a look at everything that has to be disconnected, moved to get to the valve covers and decide yeah I'm not doing that. Now I'm trying to find someone who knows what their doing so I don't end up with all my coils broken for a valve cover gasket swap, in the mean time it's only a quart every 6 months.

Do high quality spark plugs not require hand starting of the threads?

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars qhew says:

seeing what you have to first remove to fix a simple rocker leak really would put me off owing such a car (but we don’t know this when we buy!) wonder what your labour (& contingency) is worth on this job. i admire your stubborn resilience to tackle such a job. my worry would be: 1) causing secondary damage to components & 2) forgetting assembly sequence, both of which could greatly extend overhead time. but you are quite undaunted. your advantage is you have every tool imaginable (love the trusty Milwaukee driver!) & always have right one on hand at right time. and you work so fast! amazing learning experience from one who will prob never do such a job himself (thank god).
thanks again for such a professional production & always looking forward to nxt video. Interrupting Youtube ads are annoying, but watching experience makes up.

So in the future it would be nice if you would put in title of the video part 1 that way I don't have to watch this one and then wait for the next one I could just wait for the next one and then watch both at the same time I know sounds like a whiny crying sniveling entitled little brat to ask this but I did. So could you please do that next time? Thank you Ray and you don't have to do the telephone thing anymore I think we're all over it.

So you break the clip on one coil wire on the harness then after knowing the technique you just used caused damage you do the same thing again. If this were my car youd be replacing my
Goddamn harness. Good thing i dont let any oil and tire changer touch my car

Hey Ray , I thinking get a battery 3/8 ratchet, it got 65ft/lbs and only cost $149 , it come with 1 battery and 1 charger . But only got 250 rpm only . How many RPM is your . It show on Amazon with 55 fr/lbs only but not show in RPM , I still have my old 3/8 air ratchet from MAC 26 years now it got 85 ft/ lbs . Thinking switching to battery but I’m worry this battery never last than old way air tools , another thing is did you know when replace spark plugs and you not torque in correct spec and it under , you can get blow by into spark plug and in no time piston will crack , if you acceleration?
And another is , I never see you rebuilt tranny only install only

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Evan Murry says:

Very similar process for the 2002 rx300 with a metal intake, doing the knock sensors in the valley of the engine without removing the cowl sucks (specifically the intake support bracket on pas side)

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Will Randolph says:

At the dealership, we bend the tube seal tabs with needle nose, then punch them back down vs cutting them off. Removing the seals, we hammer a flat blade under and remove with twisting motion. They come out in 1 piece. Then we use the old seal to hammer the new seal in to prevent damage. I enjoy the videos.

The exhaust system makes a nice diffuser for scented oils. Pour a little almond and lavender, rose and sandalwood, orange and wormwood, or whatever you want the neighborhood to smell like on the pipes and go for a drive to freshen up the neighborhood. A little aromatherapy has to be better than horribly loud obnoxious systems that cost a lot of money and don’t really improve performance these days without accompanying changes all up the line.

Pull up for a date and let the fragrance soothe and seduce the young maiden you are courting. She is not impressed by having to yell over engine noise to hold a conversation anyway.

It would be kind of cool to have a little tube in the cab that drips fragrant essential oils down to a cup welded to the top of the pipes in a way that cooks it off slowly to grace the olfactory senses of everyone around.

    Hello, Ray……

Love the videos. I really have to say though, that digital torque wrench is HORRIBLE watching you use it. It feels like it's taking ages to get the darn torque right. And the beaps make no sense to me. I'd love to see a comparison between your old one and this one. Seems like paying attention to the digital readout and beeps take valuable time away from you. Not to say it isn't an interesting concept. But yeah.

    Doo dee do de dooo

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RezaQin says:

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Christian Banks says:

I'll stick with my analog torque wrench. That digital one would drive me insane.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ross K says:

Those tabs on the valve cover spark plug tube seals are for retaining the seal. Should be bent back, remove the seal, replace the seal then bend the tab back over to retain the seal. It was cringey watching that. I just did the same job on my 04 highlander.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Perry Reasch says:

    ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ibraheem Abu-rezeq says:

You can tell that the engine has been taking care of well, bought toyota OEM parts, changed valve cover gasket when notified of oil leak, and no sludge in the cylinder head the 1MZFE (3.0)and 3MZFE (the 3.3 engine like this one) are notorious for sludge and grime build up if the oil was changed on correct intervals

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Friendly Robot says:

Why do I do this in real life all day long and hate every second of it, then come home and watch you do it on video and enjoy the heck out of it???

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dale benson says:

    Debris…….. it's French for garbage.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scott Saunders says:

Those tabs on the plug tube seals should not be cut off! Just bend them up out of the way and bend them back into place after the new seals are in place. They are to keep the seals in place.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DRM600 says:

I love that the vehicle owner arrived prepared.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ddognine's channel says:

The easiest way to remove the spark plug hole gaskets is to heat them up with a heat gun for a minute or two. This will soften them up and they will come right out.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ville Koivuranta says:

I consider every doo-de-doo a lucky charm. Sad to see you get slowly consumed by that phone.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John McAlpine says:

Hey Ray. Do you ever have parts left over when you put it all back togrther, lol. You just amaze me how you remember where all the fasteners go back and which size along with all the parts and pieces. If it wasn't for the 2,000 mile drive to get to you I would have you doing all my work. Keep up the excellent work and take care.

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DeathMerchant says:

I did a set of plugs on one of these and unknowingly pulled the wiring out of the number two camshaft sensor. Put it all back together and then had the luxury of doing it twice. I learned though😅

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mazda Nick says:

Hey Ray. Love your videos. I want to teach you a little secret when it comes to wobbly bits that will change your life. I learned it from our mechanic where I work. If you wrap electrical tape around the wobbly joint, or even better that cloth tape for wire harnesses, it will keep it stiff enough to get on your bolt without it flopping all around, but has enough flex still to do its job. I'd love to see you try it out in a video. Hope you have a great day.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Suraj DeSilva says:

Normally I really like your work. But this is not one of them. This is why I do my own repairs. Poor customer or more like the poor engine. This car needed a chef but ended up getting a butcher. !!!

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars roberto ruiz says:

good vid RAY,it appears the designers or that throttle-body recognized that not all mechanics put all the screws back and like you mentioned good thing the air filter was in place. in this case the designer was 1step ahead, haha He put a mesh in the back of the plate.{to protect the valves?} although it would not have stopped those push fasteners from jamming the butterfly open possibly causing a runaway issue.Well at least one guy was thinking right?keep up the good vids.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars pcs0snq says:

Did the car owner supply all those OEM parts?

  54. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars bill says:

WHY does the phone BROADCAST have a ringing in the Bay? The office personnel in the Bay always?

  55. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Wildman113 says:

Typical Japanese crap. Those coil locks should be a rocker style or slide tab release, not a cheap plastic retainer that requires lifting with a screwdriver. They're designed for one time use to keep they on from the factory, nothing more. If they need to be serviced, which they all eventually will, they break just like this. Proper procedure is to replace the connector.

  56. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars capnskiddies says:

That's a pain in the arse of a job.

  57. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Aigor U says:

Doesn't sticking a three and change liters V6 kinda defeat the whole "greenie" purpose of this vehicle? And a cramped nightmare of an engine to boot.

  58. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars trekOCLVone says:

This week Ray has found a new slang pronunciation of the word "Here" and say "Hee-AhhR". That is from the Tool Review guy – I think it appropriate for this channel as well.

  59. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Barry Chickini says:

The only way that I can see how Ray, or anyone else, can remember how this all goes back together is to watch his video in reverse. The real miracle is that there are no parts left over.

  60. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars sponiebr says:

Did installing those sparkplug tube seals bring out your inner kid Ray? I couldn't get Bam-bam from the Flintstones outta my head. 🤣 Honda sparkplug tube seals aren't any easier 😕. (My car, that I'm pretty much working on full-time now is an 02 Civic)

  61. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars shadow212121kb says:

Are Toyota's always this much of a pain in the ass to work on? Watching this video is legit stressing me out! lol

  62. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Darren says:

Ray Im amazed at your confedence with such a car I would start and then go watch a movie or call in sick LOL I scare easily!

  63. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars A Dot In The Shark says:

Sometimes high crankcase pressure/blowby can force oil out through the valve cover gaskets. It wouldn't hurt to check the PCV system.

  64. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Moefuggerr says:

I do not like that car. Pain to work on for fairly simple things.

  65. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Neko says:

Jeez this is worst than a bmw valve cover gasket job.

  66. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Saunders Jones Jr says:

wow…..lots of disassembly and re assembly for an oil leak!!

  67. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jesus Santiago says:

Gotta say I feel like I'm watching myself when I watch you Ray. You even say the terminology I do which is so cool its creepy! Coping mechanism for the phone is a definite result of mechanical stress I do heavily concur sir! Keep the Spanish references up too they're awesome! With love from Chicago!

  68. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert B says:

  69. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Morning Beach Sunshine says:

  71. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nikka Pubess says:

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Leonard Altig says:

It is fascinating seeing how putting the engine into its bay when building the car, really puts a bind in getting to the various parts of the machine to repair it. Great video. Thank you.

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Squires says:

The strata on the inside of that valve cover indicates it’s millions of years old. Because… paleontology. 🤣

  85. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars william rodman lakes says:

Awesome as always! Hey, I hesitate to suggest one of MY tricks for broken coil connectors, BUT….
I always push the connector on fully then apply a small drop of silicone on the outside, preferably somewhere out of sight, and it works great, but you have to plug it on FIRST or silicone could get into the contacts…
Been doing this for years and years.
Again, I have huge respect for your abilities, just thought you might dig this 'cause it's EASIER than zip ties, and more aesthetically pleasing.

  86. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Dziak says:

  91. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dan Golden says:

I watched a video yesterday that was from a few months back. I swear this motor looks just like the one that snapped a cam shaft in Junes video. Correct me if I'm wrong. As I recall you weren't having a very good day. Don't let the trolls and a$$h*les get to you. Your a fine man and excellent mechanic. Have a good day sir.

  92. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rich T says:

Excellent, as always. I was having a chat with a neighbor about shops here in town and who the go-to guys are and who are the crooks. Ray is one of the stars here, with a few other shops. 95. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Harding says:

Re: Digital Torque Wrench. Got to be honest but the satisfying ‘click’ of the standard wrench is far more rewarding than the incessant beeping of proximity and the rapid beep of torque achieved. Plus you have to reset it between operations.

  98. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve C says:

I just can never trust the torque wrench for spark plugs, it just seems like too much force! I always just snug down and make a 1/4 to half turn and leave it alone!
