Serious question. Are those oil life percentage Indicators bullshit? I assume they are just doing the math on mileage.. and thereโs no sensor doing anything with the oil.
I truly want to drive my 2001 Cheby Silvy to Florida and see if I can pass the Rainman Ray inspection ๐๐๐ my truck ole faithful only has 146000 miles
I got my Hyundai sonata hybrid 2017 prepurchase inspected and they pretty much just took my money and missed everything. There were knocking sounds when the gas engine kicked in, not knowing any better, I had the shop look at it (prepurchase inspection). They looked at it and said everything look good and about 7 months in the rod bearing (the knocking sounds) pretty destroyed the engine. But luckily it was a faulty part from Hyundai and the engine was covered under their recall.
We are buying a car at Carvana Wednesday the 25th of May. A 2017 Kia Sorento LX all wheel drive. There is an AutoZone 9 minutes 4 miles away from the carvana so I'm going to go have the battery tested while on the test drive and then test everything like you mentioned the air conditioning the windows up and down the entertainment system the backup camera the door unlocked lock the tailgate rays and lower and check over the same things you did so far as the tires and the brakes this is pension check the condition of the oil check the air filter condition and the Ring of piece of paper towel with me so I can check the condition of the transmission fluid and ask them when's the last time they had the transmission fluid and the strainer changed out.
Nice to see a vehicle that is well taken care of for once. Makes this mechanical engineer proud. Take pride in what you own! My Lexus ES300 is 19 years old and has 170k on the odometer. I have taken care of it for the last 8 years and put 100,000 miles on it. I've taken it up to the Canadian border multiple times, trips to Milwaukee, and the longest trip to date was some 9 hours to Keystone SD from the Twin Cities to see Mt. Rushmore last year. No issues whatsoever. This summer, I am going to an amusement park in Ohio which is some 12 hours away which will be the longest road trip I've taken in this car. No hesitations whatsoever that it will run just fine.
Even with the brutal Minnesota winters this car has endured (frequent car washes are a must!), it has held up well and the overwhelming reason for that is because I have taken care of it. Even the most well designed, reliable vehicle will fall apart if you do not maintain it. I grumble sometimes when I need to put in thousands for shocks, timing belts etc but I have to remind myself that the price of maintaining an older car is still way way cheaper than the price of buying a new one. I would like to get a hybrid or plug in hybrid and something with AWD as I go hunting a lot now and getting stuck in the snow isn't something I want, but with the price insanity that is the COVID era car market, the old Lexus will run just fine for a few more years until I can get something more decently priced and I'm sure the new owner will get a lot of enjoyment out of it as long as they take care of it too. Frankly, the only real killer of this car other than an accident will be rust from all the salt the frame sees.
I drove a school but for 12 years. Most of the checks Ray did at the beginning we had to do before we started the bus in the morning and in the afternoon.
Man I never have luck like that when buying a car I literally just bought a 2014 dodge grand caravan THING was mint I drove it 50 miles no issue no leaks everything worked I checked under it on top of it and unfortunately some how I only looked at the drivers side I have no idea how or why but I payed top dollar for a van that was smashed up on the passanger side … I literally didn't even look over there I checked the lights opened up the back drivers door got in checked the other passanger door and completely missed the passanger side ended up paying 2500 too much if not more since the damage is so extensive
Dude, I want you to do the MOD the next time I buy a car! You care. Most canics I know just want to get the job done then move on. GREAT JOB!!! ๐๐๐
Title – Maintenance Makes a BIG Difference! Thumbnail – the back of a wheel, looks like it might be upsetting…but not a mechanic, and it's a tiny image covered in stuff. 7 mins in – Me: "There's nothing wrong here…why do everyone of his thumbnails and titles suggest otherwise though?" (contemplates continuing to watch)
As I write that..on my right hand side, let me just read you some of the titles…and thumbnails….
Title – Engine About to blow up! Keeping it alive! Thumb – "Fatal Flaw" I'm not going to watch this one, because undoubtedly an engine will be nowhere near blowing up, and you will regail me with a time an engine almost blew up while working on a problem that has nothing to do with the title or thumbnail.
Title – Gravy Train Gets Derailed Thumb – Spar Plug. Impact Gun. No! Again…not sure if you are going to regal me…or something is almost going to happen…all I know is…judging from the like 20 videos I have seen and paid attention to titles and thumbnails….the title and thumbnail are CLICKBAIT!!!!
At first I was thinking, "well, maybe i'm just pessimistic". Then I noticed…anything that has to do with the title or thumbnail, is always passed the 10 min mark….PUMP that ad revenue! LOL
Not sure when tubers will learn that general audiences are actually tired of this greedy behavior…and genuinely just want people to compete again to produce good content…not rely on poorly raised stupid people.
So…yeah, deal with never breaking 500k subs because you don't understand that the audience that watches this is not the same audience that watches unboxing.
I have a 2005 Lexus with almost 180K on it, it looks and runs like a new car. Simple regular maintenance and drive like an adult, and a quality car will last you a very long time.
Correct. One of my two cars is an '88 Chevy Corsica. Been in my family since brand new. Coming up on 100K miles. Been well maintained, some normal wear and tear parts replaced, but sure runs great.
Honestly that mini cooler is a big selling point for me. I can imagine going on road trips and putting a few drinks and sandwiches or something in there to snack on on the road
I miss my Jeep but I know the next person got a well-cared-for vehicle. 119k miles, all major recalls were completed. The new owner has to replace 4 tires (all 4 have at least 1 screw or nail in them dang food delivery to the construction area but only 1 tire has a slow leak), had 2 accidents, the window washer fluid reservoir wasn't replaced after the second accident that cracked it. I can say 80-90k miles was all food delivery. The air filter needs to be replaced but Idk if they left the clean replacement in the trunk under the floor. Also, the new owner doesn't have to worry about getting an oil change for another 19,000 miles. The cars I use have to work just as hard as I do, so I take care of them the best I can. I don't run them until the wheels fall off.
At 6 minutes, when you are listening to the vehicle by using the wall to reflect sounds, those cicadas make it sound like there is a horrible belt noise! ๐๐
Keeping a vehicle maintained also increases it's trade-in value. I also keep mileage records, and all records of work done on my car. I once got $1000 extra on my trade-in because of my records.
You should see and drive my 2003 Dodge Dakota truck. 19 years , 157000 on the clock and looks and runs like new, doesn't use oil, transmission fluid is ruby red, air even works super
Hi Ray. That is the VCM engine which had problems with oil burning, spark plug fouling and eventual piston ring failue., There is an aftermarket VCM tuner available for that engine which disables the VCM feature.
I would like to what Dealership allows you to take the car to get a pre purchase inspection… or take it to a mechanic that does NOT work for them. maybe its just in CA they dont do it? IDK
dude, if you shake it mire than 3 times its called playing with it ๐๐๐คฃ๐คฃ
God I love a well maintained vehicle!
Add a comment…
I love seeing vehicles that are well maintained.. Take care of your stuff and your stuff will take care of you..

Sounded like a bad cicada problem there for a second.

Right turn tendency can come from low pressure in right front or left rear tire. Where was that tire low? Left rear.

This equates to the meme that states "I want to see a movie where Sean Bean just has a good day." We just wanted you to have a good vehicle, my guy.
that is clearly a car that was owned by a very anal retentive person. It's amazing they even sold it it start with.
Love the โpro tipโ.
What about the slight pull to the right?
it's a Honda 10 times better than an modern American pile of crap.

who's paying for all this if its a "pre-purchase" inspection?
I have a 2005 Lexus with almost 180K on it, it looks and runs like a new car. Simple regular maintenance and drive like an adult, and a quality car will last you a very long time.
NEVER purchase a used vehicle without getting a pre-purchase inspection.
No matter how you wiggle or dance the last few drops fall into your pants

Has the eco mode on it caused issues with burning oil?
ee
Honda maybe reliable but oh so dull to drive with no character

I have that same van, and the AC only gets cold when you start driving it! Idk why. But after you keep the vehicle moving, the AC stays ice cold.

The one car that didnโt really need a pre inspection ๐ not like the other 70% ready to grenade part ex time bombs.
Nice to see a happy day at the shop! ๐บ
Pro tip wonโt work around all those cicadas lol
And this was a PRE-purchase inspection. ๐ฎ
Seems like most people buy beat up junk then get themselves a post inspection
You probably did it, but not in video. Check tranny fluid.
