  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars spelunkerd says:

I did this once, using a cheap headlight restoration kit, and at first was really happy with the result. Six months later it was back to looking terrible. Gotta look up that clear coat!

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Timothy Kidd says:

hello Ray im looking for the kit that you guys used on this car.

  4. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Philip Ershler says:

Ah, nice and shiny! To quote a wise man.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Luke Skywodka says:

    Funny from Germany:

In Germany, the polishing of headlights is not allowed because it "changes the design of the part" with which the vehicle was registered.

Since micrometers of material are removed, the operating license expires.

Of course, almost everyone does it anyway, nobody notices it anyway during the main inspection for a new 2-year approval. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars G. Reaper says:

Interesting. Last headlight kit I used required the use of a polishing wheel after sanding… this spray on stuff is pretty cool.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Emilio G. says:

3โ€ 3m Trizact discs in 500-8000 grit works great on a cordless drill using soapy water.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars snaplash says:

I'd polish out all the sanding scratches, working up to 3000 grit paper, then polishing compounds. Then, the UV protector.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars jorge fernandez says:

Those lights came out nice. What product did you use?

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Willard Dunn says:

    the way I restore headlights
    1. clean headlight
2.use mag wheel cleaner with small buffing wheel and water
    3. clean up surface
    4. use heavy duty rubbing compound like mag wheel cleaner is used.
    5. next use light rubbing compound until it is clearer
    6. clean up surface to see how clear it is.
    satisfaction
    8. last step use Nufinish paste wax on surface. rub it on surface then let it sit till dry
    9. buff clean with dry cloth.
You may think there is a lot of things to do. I never get any complaints. I don't charge them either. The safety facture that they can drive at night is my pay.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars west texas news says:

I hate the plastic headlight I wish the would go back to glads

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars west texas news says:

Around $60 or 65 to replace each

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve DeLeon says:

I've had really great results with Baking Soda..White Toothpaste..& 500 grit sandpaper..Wet sand lamps and dry..make a thick paste of water toothpaste & baking soda and scrub the solution with a damp rag for about 5 minutes each lamp..rinse with water & dry..finish with three light coats of clear lacquer…turn lights on to dry faster..

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars trshorte says:

I just use rubbing compound. Takes just a couple of minutes and usually last a year or so.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Marcello Colotario says:

You get through your day like I get through mine. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeffrey S. says:

How about a link to the UV spray paint that you utilized in this video? Hook a brother up! ๐Ÿ‘

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars CrabmanSteve says:

When I was in auto restoration (paint, body, rim repair, interior restoration) we would wet sand and then hit the lights with a buffer using 3M 06060 followed up with 3M 06068.
    Then uv sprayed it.

Looks like maybe we could have skipped the polishing based on how that method works, but ours always looked glass clear.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Warburton says:

I've found through experience that toothpaste and water applied using an old toothbrush has just the right grit for cleaning up sun-damaged headlight covers without causing gouging.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Waxyyy says:

I dont do these often where i work because we dont do them when its raining or snowing. But their always so satisfyling to me when i do it and see the transformation

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Leo Gaming says:

Have you thought of using the spray max 2k clear coat. Ive used it on my headlights with great results. Its a 2 part clear coat just like what spray guns use and should last longer than a 1 part spray.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jim Bowesman says:

those new replacement aftermarket Camry headlights are like 106 bucks a pair on eBay. will last 2 years instead of 3 months before glazing up again.

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars WXSEDY says:

I'm afraid I might have to give a thumbs down ๐Ÿ‘Žfor not telling us what product you were using.

… Just kidding. Thumbs up! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SilensMort says:

When I need to do this myself I get the rainx drill kit. Works like a charm.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DuaneB says:

Some aftermarket kits have 3000 grit abrasives in them. Would using that fine of abrasive with the spray on UV protection make for a better outcome? I mean, it looks great but is too fine a hinderance?

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 67 SuperSport says:

Hey Ray: Post the Clearcoat/UV spray used, most skip this step which is very-critical for longevity.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alan Burgess says:

Wasn't sanded enough before coating. Shouldn't be that cloudy if sanded properly before sealing.

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars watershed44 says:

    @Rainman Ray's Repairs

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeff Kuipers says:

    toothpaste works super good too.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TheFinalApproach says:

Best way is to sand away the yellow degraded plastic, and then up the grit to 1500 or 2000, and then polish with chemical guys headlight restorer cream.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DC Janecke says:

having done this on my own car…the hand sanding was time consuming and awful but definitely worth it in the end

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Wood says:

What's the name of that stuff?????

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian OHara says:

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TheFutureIsImpenetrable says:

Great one Ray. Iโ€™ve always wondered about these products. Even when you complain about your camera work it is still the best on youtube

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Just Aguy says:

You can get them clearer if you use a polish prior to putting the clearcoat on the lens.

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jason Maiuri says:

Up here in Washington State, I use Off Bug spray for removing UV damaged surface, crazy how it works so great, just need to be sure to wipe all the residue off before it dries.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phil Ward says:

I've used one of those polishing kits to good effect, never needed the spray. This must be how to do it without buying a kit with increasing grit of sanding media and a polishing ball. Headlights went from yellow to perfectly clear in a few minutes.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Flat Rock says:

Difficult to spray without having orange peel or dripping

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars The Flat Rock says:

Knocks years off a car like makeup does for some women. However neither lasts that long. Sometimes itโ€™s like putting lipstick on a pig ๐Ÿฝ

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars creamed corn says:

For me, it's a three month "fix", 2011 Camry. I'm going to be buying new headlight assemblies.
