This video was perfect for me today it is exactly what was going on with my brothers truck best auto channel on the internet thank you
2016 Fontier – On mine the black switch part broke off completely. It was able to be started with a small screw driver being stuck in the hole to press the switch.
Thanks! Didn't end up being my problem, but it helped me to understand that that isn't my no start no crank issue.
Thanks for the tech tip. Love when the manufacturer gets busted like this.
I have a 2007 frontier and this has happened to me about three times over the years. The first time was expensive. Since then I'll order some spares from my local dealership and they cost me about six dollars each. Great video and it gets to the point. Thanks Eric.
Carriage bolt and nutt with 1 drop of locite
Had the same problem on my 1998 Frontier. I found a bolt/washer/nut in my tool box that would fit through the hole. Worked like a charm!
Holy moly!! You just saved me a few hundred bucks from buying a new starter, and the short clip was perfect!! This is exact thing happened to me a couple days ago, wondering what that broken plastic thing was on my driver's side floor — by the clutch — AND on the same day my truck (2004) stopped starting. I'm jumping the gun since I have to wait 'til morning, but if not for the now identified broken piece of plastic, I am pretty sure this is what happened. Thank you!!
Thanks man, this video helped me figure out the problem with my '16 Frontier. The ironic thing is I had a similar problem with the Brake pedal/brake switch in a '98 Frontier so you'd think I'd have learned (or better yet, Nissan would have learned).
Saved me a no-start diagnostic fee. I was going to duct-tape a penny over the hole, then I found a clip from a new dress shirt. Wrap it with duct tape and it's a no-cost repair. Thanks!
This video just saved me so much trouble. I bought an Xterra and this happened to me when I stopped while driving home. Tried everything and was going to get towed before I found this video. Sure enough there was a hole in my rubber. It started right up when I pressed it in with my finger
Thank you SO much! This is exactly what is wrong with my truck! Apparently, I can tell the guy at the shop down the street to take that $200 work order and shove it! Pretty sure I can fix it myself.🤔😜
You just saved me some serious aggravation and money Eric. This just happened to my son’s ‘98 Frontier. Thanks a million!
good info to have.
Mine is on the way out, thanks for the Vid
They have these around the brake pedal too so if it falls off your cruise control won't engage. Saw another video someone just put a bolt through it. Gonna grab one from the junkyard or maybe i'll just glue what's left of the old one if I can find it.
I bought a used nissan frontier with a no crank issue. The guy was frustrated with the problem and sold it to me for $700. Same issue, yes it is a very poor engineering oversight but it got me a good deal on a used truck. Love your channel and please keep up the good and honest work.
It works. Thanks for the video.
Love your channel! Have used for many DYI vehicle maintenance over the years! Currently have a manual frontier (2017 pro4x) and have been smelling oil in my cab while driving…did a Google search and only burnt oil smell comes up, not fresh oil. Would say it smells more like gear oil not motor oil…any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Don't see any leaks, engine pressure, temps, fluid levels are good…
It worked!
I have a 1987 D21 with the 5-speed. Same stupid nub. I'm on my 3rd clutch nub and 2nd brake nub. When the brake nub goes, the brake lights stay on and you have to pull the fuse until you can find a replacement nub. Some people put a small bolt, washer and nut in there for a permanent fix.
Hi Eric…I was about to jack up my truck, remove my starter and test it on a battery. You just saved me a crap load of money. I have a 2011 Nissan Xterra mt and after watching this I went out and checked my clutch pedal and lo and behold…no fucking rubber stopper. This was intentionally designed to fail and have the owner shell out a small fortune to some greedy bastard that is obviously NOT you. Thanks so much for much for this video. Cheers!
I have a 2010 Xterra Off-Road that occasionally does not want to start but if I push my clutch start bypass button it will start….. I think you just saved my butt from a whole lot of trouble. Now when I get back home I have to take my 8 months pregnant rear end and crawl underneath and see if that's what my problem is ☺👍 Thank you good sir! I don't need a crazy repair Bill if this is a simple fix that I can do my damn self!!
Thank you! I replaced my starter, battery, ignition relay, multiple fuses including 80a, had to wait months for some parts to come across the world only to find your video and see that for want of a piece of plastic, I was left hoofin' it.
We were waiting for AAA to come tow it when we found this! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 2012 Nissan Frontier.
FYI bought an official replacement from Nissan that doesn't even fit! Going with the penny!
whats the name of the piece
Holy fuck man so simple lol
Wow! I was pulling my hair out when all of the sudden my 98 frontier stopped cranking…..your fix was the problem. I have been looking at everything electrical for the past day! I love you man!
THANKS for this – exactly what was going on with my '13 Xterra. Who'da thunk it?? Replaced it with a push connector from my MGB interior door panel – have a bunch of 'em!
Must have got lucky. Got the part at the Nissan house for $2.50. Went ahead a got a couple of extras because I live an hour away. Was a good idea since the button on the clutch went out about 6 months after the one on the brake.
OH MY
This was the most, useful, beautiful, timely, and perfect video ever posted to YouTube!!!!!
You just saved me from buying a new 150$ starter thinking it had to be the solenoid! Relays were good, grounds were good, and I was scratching my head man! Thanks a shit ton!!!
THANK YOU!!!! I was troubleshooting for 2 hours before finding this, and there it was broken on the floor.
Okay I have a question what if I put my thumb on it and pushed it in and nothing happened do you think it's the switch itself because the rubber thing that you just replaced is flat on both sides. It's not a hard plastic it's rubber.
Thank you!!!! was wondering why my fronty wasn’t starting every other time. the rubber had a hole right through it if snapped right off when i tried to take it off.
Exactly what happened to me today, 2014 frontier,<35K. The 2nd stopper was deteroriated also. Stuck a bolt in it for now. thanks for posting a great video
You saved me, thanks! I got into y 2012 Xterra yesterday and the exact same thing happened. I assumed it was the clutch interlock switch, since it would start when I pushed the cancel button. Here after I watched this I went out and found this ridiculous piece of plastic not only broken put pushed onto the plunger of the switch. What a stupid design.
Just had this same exact part fail on my brand new, 2019 Frontier. You are correct, this is a very poorly designed part of the clutch. Thanks so much for sharing this information! If this happens to me again, now I will know what to do!
Thanks for video..exactly my problem..now fixed.
I am trying to change the starter on a 2002 Nissan Frontier XE (2001-2004) body style 2.4 L 4-Cylinder. The access to the starter is next to impossible and I wondered if you have changed a starter on this model. I have replaced several starters over the years, but I have never seen one with this type of access difficulty.
Just 4 hours waiting in 96F heat +$400 towing charge (Tennessee -Georgia )for brand new Nissan Frontier …and after beighn back home I watched this video and found it on a floor mat …Hell of a weekend! And Thanks a lot for sharing!
Having this issue today…thanks for the explanation!
I'm cheap and good at rigging nut bolt locking washer fixed forever 30 cents
Thanks and great simple video. Bolt and nut would fix that easily. Forget about the $15 bucks.
Had this exact issue today. Thanks for the thorough explanation and well thought out video presentation. Nissan door panel retainers will work as a substitute in a pinch until you can get the correct OEM part.
I put a piece of duct tape on my '11.
Thanks! This was my problem tonight and your video saved me!
Thanks to crappy engineering mechanics still have jobs!! In the end, its car owners who really pay the price.
