I must say. The way I learned to solder wires. Is to push strands together . Twist . Then solder. This is the proper and strong way. This is the way taught at collage.
It's interesting how many of these repair videos boil down to someone's crude, possibly DIY, electrical splicing job.

Please call it 'Soul der ing' and not 'sawed er ing' because it sounds so dumb.
You might've accidentally fixed the problem without knowing when you replace the wire harness. There might've been a broken wire inside the insulation that you couldn't see. After all, you never tested the wires for conductivity.
What you could've done to extend the new wire harness was to use pieces of the wires from the old harness that aren't damaged so you can maintain the color accuracy. Waste not; want not.

should of twisted wires together inline then solder been doing this a very long time/ nice job
Here's an easy way to strip then twist the wires. Strip half inch all the way then go In a further eighth inch and start to strip but only pull it to the end of the wire. This keeps all strands in order and makes it much easier to twist the wires. Do not remove the last bit until after tinning.

Does your shop use identifix? We use it at our shop a lot in trouble code diagnostics gives you a list of confirmed fixed that other shops that use direct fix and reported say theres a code for evap small leak it will say maybe few 100 for purge sole or vent valve etc or if there has been common issues with wires related to issue rubbing through somewhere

Eric O has a great solution for wrapping tape in tight area. Wrap a bunch around a small socket and use the socket to wrap the tape in the tight area.
neat idea i learned from one of the journymen at the dealership I work at. Liquid electrical tape. kinda goes on like anti sieze, similar sized bottle with a brush in the cap. but it doesn't get all gross and sticky long term because it's just rubber that solidifies after being exposed to oxygen. would be a great thing to use on that worn through alternator wire and most parts stores carry them.

Oh,btw it name is "western Union wrap" then you twist the wire(end to end) like you do. When you twist wire together with the wire side by side is named "DUMB"
I still would have twisted the wires first then solder.

small tip on the soldering:
pre tin one wire and don't twist the strands. Then heat the pre-tinned and you can slide the second wire into the pre-tinned resulting in almost a strand by strand splice.

I remember on an old 2005 Mustang GT my wife had, cam sensor PID. Turned out to be Ford had issues with "Nators" at the time throwing dirty power triggering false codes.

keep in mind that also the large wire that was being rubbed by CV Boot…as rubs builds static. static high voltage into that circuit CANNOT be good.

Soldering in electric wires in automotiv area is not good. Vibration and the cable will be loose sooner or later. AS well it is an door to corosion. Crimoping is better in this area.
Didn't realise how many videos of yours I have watched…but doing a brake job and ball joints earlier and noticed myself saying click everytime I tightened something with a spanner 😂

There is a special place in hell for people who cut zip-ties at an angle… And just go ahead and buy a set of flush-cut zip-tie pliers…
I have really good luck not twisting either end. Just stuff them into each other and solder. Makes a strong connection.

Junkyard engine on a PT Cruiser with 100K… that engine was a 'junkyard' engine when it rolled off the assembly line back in 2002. You did all the right things on this repair. Your soldering was fine but next time- stagger your joints so they aren't right next to each other in the event there is a future break in the shrink tube. You're definitely a rare breed – glad to see it.
That horrible greasy tape, I've come across it so many times in the wild but have 0 Idea what cheap bulk shop they buy it from. just wish they would move to the proper 3M stuff 😀
Maybe someone already told you, but you don't have to add lead when you already primed both wires. Simply heat them both and let the magic work. 😉
electron leakage prevention bandage much betterer than electrical tape
I like the Western Union splice. NASA requires a mechanical connection, without relying on the solder, to give the most reliable solder connections.
If you own a Chrysler product, soldering is a daily thing haha.
Always western union your splices. Ray hem makes a sealing heat shrink works great against corrosion.
