Come along with me as I diagnose this 2004 Buick LeSabre and fix the inoperative speed control 🙂
As always do not take my advice but refer to your shop manual for the proper procedure to diagnose and repair your automobile.

I know this is a old video but wouldn’t the throttle blade be past the build up once doing 30? That doesn’t seem like it would be the reason it broke in the first place.

Enjoyed your video and successful repair of the cruise control on the Le Sabre. I have a 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V8 ID 1G4HR57Y96U187611 Is the cruise control module on the exterior like the Le Sabre or is it inside the transmission?

On a Buick LeSabre… If you push the 'Cruise Control' button and nothing happens (no amber light on in the on/off button) the easiest and therefore the FIRST thing to check is the #14 fuse in the fuse-box under the hood. If that is not the problem, the SECOND thing is check fuses under the steering column. (Under the steering wheel, about where your left knee is when driving). Remove the plastic cover panel (it just pulls off), then remove the steel plate that is under that panel (just four 10mm screws). There is a small black rectangular plastic box with wires sticking out of it. Open the box and you will find three 2 AMP fuses. Check these for a burn-out. They control the lights/function of the buttons on your steering wheel. AND they are not mentioned in the owners manual. This job takes about 10 minutes to do, and it will save you hours or even days of frustration. (I just fixed my own 2004 Buick Lesabre this way; and also fixed a friends 2001 Lesabre this way; so I'm guessing they all have these 2 amp fuses under the steering column).

Not sure if you’re a till active or remember but did the cruise dash light come on when you’d click it? Mine doesn’t come on. I’m thinking it could be the cruise fuse but not sure.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars My 2 Cents says:

Just subscribed. Will check mine tomorrow. I have the 98 and the cruise quit this year. Its not a priority for car usability so its been broke a while now. I was like , hey let me check online to see if anyone else has had this issue. BOOM looking at this video. Mines in the hole below the master cylinder. My water tank for the windshield wipers is where your working at. I reken they moved it in the later models , everything else looks identical. Drooling over the PARTS 🙂

Do you have any information for a 91 Buick Century Custom with a 3300(204ci)?
My horn & cruise control &(speedo works sometimes)speedometer don't work. All fuses changed 2x with new would love any feedback 🇺🇸.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars RAEL says:

The TCC brake pedal switch as he said is the Torque Converter Clutch and it is a solenoid that locks up the transmission acting as a poor man's over-drive gear. It locks up the transmission in third gear so it doesn't slip thus giving a more direct drive at freeway speeds. At freeway speeds the brake pedal switch de-energizes the TCC solenoid otherwise it would feel like someone rear-ended you because the transmission would still be locked in third gear. I once had my TCC solenoid fail to release and the car was locked in third gear even on the freeway off ramp. (also coming out of a toll booth) Of course the motor dies at low speed and will not restart in third gear. A quick fix for a TCC lock-up situation on the side of the road is to simply pull the connector off of the TCC solenoid and you can limp home without the lockup feature. Replacing the TCC solenoid is relatively simple.

The chart to know if the junk yard part would work, is that chart from all data?

Watching this video SO makes me appreciate how my junkyard is fully PAVED!

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars M L says:

What a stupid design by GM 🙄. I recently had a problem with my 2003 Buick Regal where the cruise control light periodically turned on when the switch not active then the climate control eventually stopped working.

Found out through research that the ignition switch wiring harness had a short. Tore apart the dash and steering column and replaced the ignition switch harness. Climate control works now but the cruise control still doesn't work, so annoying. Checked the fuse and its still good, going to have to do more testing to figure it out. Great videos!

My 89 lesabre is having the same issue on lights on but no engaging. Looks like im looking for a vacuum leak.

I have 2012 Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD. Cruise does not come one. I have checked using the scan tool that it does know the button is pressed. The car does not have any other codes (tested using a detailed diagnostic scan tool)

I drive a LeSabre. 2000 model year with 154k miles. Bought it with 147k miles two years ago for $1000. Love the thing but the old girl has some issues. So whenever I see you working on one I’m like “Gaaa SMA is fixing my car!!!”

To add to it, I’m also an NY Native.

Im about to go on a trip and i thought id try and figure out why i have intermittent cruise control issues on my 1997 buick. It works for about 20-30 minutes and then suddenly stops. For long trips that makes for long cramps…..probably not the same issue as the video, but i found the information entertaining and useful to say the least. Who knows….buick isn't exactly known for quality, it might be the same issue.
Also, I thought snap-on was supposed to be the primo, cream of the crop? What happened to those days…..?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Nazarov says:

Mine stopped working and I replaced the cruise control switch and wire. Battery was disconnected and when I put every thing back together it took a while to
Engage but then my cruise lights started working until the next morning when I started driving it it just stopped working again.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars thomas m. tordel jr. says:

the one thing that got my attention re: sticking throttle, is that to set cruise the throttle would be open past the sticking point since the car's at 25-30 at least. No? yes?

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Martin J says:

I like your videos, but you have terrible junkyard etiquette.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars dummkompf says:

awesome TY. This must be the issue on my 02 lesabre, It was working fine until I removed the throttle body. I noticed that cable wasn't as tight when I reconnected it so that's gotta be it.
p.s. the reason it had such a hard pull was because you were trying to open the throttle from the fully closed position. normally the throttle would already be partially open when you engage the CC and even then it doesn't actually pull, it just holds a static position which is much easier than pulling.

IF YOUR CRUISE CONTROL DOESNT WORK IT MOST LIKELY IS YOUR RELAY OR THE CRUISE CONTROL UNIT IF YOURE GETTING POWER TO YOUR HORN, AND SRS. I WASNT GETTING ANY POWER TO MY VACCUM ACTUATOR IN MY HONDA ACCORD AND FIGURED FROM A DIAGRAM THAT WAS THE PROBLEM

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Peter says:

I'd have taken the cable too, they are hard to find and are discontinued from GM..

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Handsome Muggle says:

I have a 2002 BA Ford Falcon (Australia). Once my cruise control stopped working, experience told me to check the brake light fuse, as it relies on brake light circuit to disable it when brake pressed. Also, my cruise control does not activate under 40 kph (25 mph). One thing not told in my owners manual is it does not state to NEVER use cruise in wet, rain or ice and snow.  Highway patrol had to put out a article in local paper stating not to use it in those weather conditions and why after a spate of accidents where people had cruise on, car hit patch of water, car slows down momentarily from aquaplaning, and computer sense 'oh car slowing down from set speed, lets add power'. This was the first car I ever had with both cruise control, and ABS so quite the learning experience.

Thanks brutha, I had cruise malfunction in a 2000 Chevy impala. You jogged my memory regarding the cruise control connection at the throttle body; mine's a bit damaged. Sure enough, the tab connection had fallen off; probably caused a squirrel, or other rodent rummaging around for some soy based wiring…'Soy based wiring'?…BAD idea! Since rodents screwed up my wiring once before (Cost me tons of dough to figure out WTF), I keep a loaded trap atop my battery, fastened with velcro; it works great, and isn't triggered even on bumpy dirt roads.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Bell says:

A common problem with the older cruise controllers like 90s and earlier is a solenoid inside dies. Also an easy fix you just check resistance of the two solenoids inside and pull just the solenoids at the junkyard. Way cheaper than buying the whole cruise module. Get a couple so you have spares.
