how does that have so much rust from New Mexico?
I was just getting ready to mention the rear tires being mounted on the wrong sides when you mention it. A lot of people don't know about that and that can be very dangerous because it makes water go to the center of the tire instead of out and away from under the tire.
Inspect my car, tell me what's wrong. Yeah, not going to do it now, maybe later. I'd at least get the safety things sorted. But hey, that's just me.

Wanted to give you a laugh my girlfriends daughter pontiach vibe 2002 she tells me the car stinks and the ac fan doesn't work right first thing I check is the cabin filter . Wow 20 years chronic smoker's with no filter change. It was driving tar out of it.😱🤔🤣Gross like her daughter I fixed it good trashed it didn't replace it why bother she will never change it again. It makes it a health issue for others in car🤣

Knock sensor, coolant leaks and valve cover leaks is what I usually find in this cars. But they’re pretty solid engines I believe
all those 3 code could have been found on the frontier/xterra forums. they always come one. knock sensor could use relocation and evap leak is almost always the tank seal where the pump gos in since nissan issued a recall on the VG33E Versions
A 2001 Nissan Xterra with 81,000 miles from New Mexico? Must be from either Albuquerque or Santa Fe, since there are cars with that kind of mileage and age around those parts. And yes, those wipers dry out, even with seasonal 'monsoon' storms we get here as well, mostly from sun rot and dirt.

Motorcycle Safety Course is no longer done by the DMV although some locations might. They contract out to independent schools, once you pass that course, show your certificate of completion to the DMV & pay for the license.
Law enforcements perspective on unlicensed riders is they are legally required to impound your vehicle if your caught riding without a license but like you say some people are cool about it if you can get someone to take you and your bike home with the proviso that you enter into training immediately (but 99 percent odds you will still get a ticket).

That positive terminal being corroded and loose, contributes to a fail on battery test. I have had Duralast batteries and they do hold up, I have gotten 5-6 years out of them. Valve cover leaks on a Nissan 3.3 aren't fun and neither is a knock sensor.
This car would be a major failure you would not be allowed to drive it on the road
Now Gm Europe would classify that a a warranty issue any fluid outside of it place is a warrenty claim any seal failure is warrenty don't you have environmental laws

Datsun is still a brand sold by Nissan so it still should say datsun as datsun is there budget brand.

The course test is the road test. You present the certific to the dmv and bam you get the endorsement.
Did you check the brakes?? I didn't notice you doing this but I would think that would be one of the most important things to check. I noticed the brakes didn't get a comment but that meant there was no obvious problem but it would have been nice to know if the pads were going to be wearing out in the next 2-3 thousands of miles.
The up and down front end reminds me of the early 70s Ford large cars.
6 year service life on tires?….I thought that it was 10 years. I just found this "Tire manufacturers such as Continental and Michelin say a tire can last up to 10 years provided you get annual tire inspections after the fifth year."…..I only have 33,000 miles on mine. In a little over a year, I'll hit the 10 year mark, and replace mine. (ouch, it'll cost over a grand for Michelin Primacy)

I wish there were honest mechanics like you in my town. Since there aren't any, I have been doing my own car work for about 35 years now. I have a nice side yard, complete with a shade tree, for doing everything from the regular stuff like oil changes on up to rebuilding a whole engine and putting it back in the car. Well….we rebuilt the engine elsewhere and brought it back there. Thanks so much for the extra pointers I am getting just from watching your vids. These days, a car will pretty much tell you what's wrong for you with an OBD tool. I have later model Toyotas, so I don't do a lot of mechanicing these days but it's still fun to watch.

The repairs I’ve seen suggest either A or B tech but knowledge of master level tech.

I noticed you didn't inspect the brakes. Is that not required on a safety inspection? When I do one here in Ontario, Canada we need to inspect all that you just wonderfully showed us but also seat belts (for cuts/fraying),brake pad thickness and rotor thickness/drum diameter. Being obviously colder here in Canada we also have to make sure the defrost works too lol
Completely agree with you that as mechanics we are just there to give the customer as much info and any advise on how to best maintain their vehicle and keep them, their passengers and other road users safe when their vehicle is driving down the road.
