I think you meant that you wanted to see LESS friction on the fan clutch. More friction would mean it takes more effort to spin. You'd want it to spin more easily for more air flow.
Lots of people have already mentioned finding the right SD card for it, and software updates, but I’ll throw my hat in the ring and say be careful where you buy it. Fake SD cards are everywhere! If you buy direct from the GoPro website or from a physical store i reckon that’s a safer bet.
I am hooked. I can't stop watching and learning. As a stand up comic, I love your sense of humor when doing your work. You seem to love your job and are a fantastic showman/teacher for the novice. Thank you for everything you do
I'm learning a lot watching these. I feel like if I watch more of them, maybe I'll gain more confidence to work on my own vehicles. I'm not going to gain a lift of course, so for things that require that kind of expensive thingy I'll still have to take it in, but there are things I can do while it's on the ground. Like check the relays in my car, which has headlights that like to crash and need to be rebooted. Yeah, I actually do mean that I have to turn my headlights off and on again to reboot them when they shut off.
Hey dude great content!! I know you're in a shop and time is money but I wish you would have checked that electric fan out because you're right. That electric fan should be able to keep it cool. I wonder if that fan is only for the AC or if only kicks on when the ECU sees 230 degrees. Anyways great work
Note that the fan is the video is plastic. With metal fan blades we could always tell when someone and tried this test, The bandages were a dead giveaway. Seriously, folks, either that or the 3rd degree burns from opening a hot radiator.
When fan clutches began to be installed on cars, they were a real headache. Especially after the car was old enough to reach a used car stage. Generally to solve the overheating we replaced the fan clutch with a fan clutch eliminator. There were no electric fans to help. This was assuming the other cooling components were functioning properly.
I purchased a Hero 9 and it would freeze up all the time. It did not make a difference what card I used. Purchased a Hero 10, same thing. The problem with freezing up has not been fixed. I have set on the chat line for a hour asking questions, they just gave the same rehearsed answer time and time again. My hero 4 is a beast.
In this video I noticed that a yellow light was illuminated on the dash which is the symbol of a car with two wiggly lines behind it and I have the same issue on my car. I noticed that you did not worry about it so does this mean it is not important? Thanks
I once had a Mustang I was working on we couldn’t get any spark at spark plugs we had just installed brand new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor and still no spark. We ended up having three bad spark plugs and three bad spark plug wires that were installed on the good plugs. So always check new parts first
I’ve had a bad fan clutch out of the box 4 times in my life. It’s a serious problem these days with junk parts made of chineseium. Thank you Ray ! For doing it right.
yep, new ain't always good! years ago i replaced a fuel pump on a slant six mopar …. no fuel … no pressure … nothing. turns out the part was sold and returned to the parts house and i was the second guy to buy it. (known because box had been re-taped shut by the parts house with yellow tape ) i luckily discovered that a shipping port plug had been sliced off and crammed into the pump inlet port. sabotage? stupidity? simple oversight? who knows. took it back. showed it to the manager, he tossed it in the garbage can and gave me another pump. and he bought me a pepsi ! lol😀
My truck would over heat, first thing i went an got a thermostat, before i installed it, YouTube it. I couldn't go over a certain speed and it would get hot, but if i slowed down, it would be ok. My radiator was older and according to the internet, my radiator was bad. So i bought a new radiator and installed it, got it back together and the same thing happed. I was scratching my head and figured since I had the thermostat already, ill just put it in. That fixed the problem. lol, all that time and money wasted and it was the 10 dollar part i bought first.
If the issue with your camera is still ongoing, you might not have a high speed SD card. Depending on the resolution you shoot at, it will need to write more data in a shorter amount of time. So, you're probably using the highest resolution which might cause it. Also, be sure to use big brands like Samsung or genuine Sandisk presumably bought at Best Buy so you know they're legit. If it's not the case, you can always return it if you want.
You are constantly dropping your flashlights. Why not wear a headlight? They work great and wouldn’t fall.
That first "mallet test" of the fan should have broken at least one blade. You knew from experience the clutch was bad.

You can really see and hear the difference.

Your wife has to be so proud of you and how much you seem to know just by putting 2 and 2 together, what is wrong with a car..
your not shaking hands with danger because you fully aware of what you are doing
Tpms, abs, traction control, ?
I'm surprised you didn't ask for the other stuff that beeps and blinks

Whenever someone says don't do this – I ask: "and how do you know this?" New does not mean its good – Very true. So when you write your book use this.
Great job
What a shitttty fan shroud design Dodge. Even GM has figured out the 2 piece fan shroud…
i want to adopt you, lol
Over 232K miles! Wow.

WHY does this fan have asymmetrically-spaced blades? Or is it my eyes?

dude, use the correct tool on the fan nut
i stop those fans by hand
Gives me the Shinies!!!
I've bought new starters and asked them to check it before I left and it failed, and so did the next one on the shelf
Oh and REEEEEEE
By checking the tempgage you can't really rely on the temperature of the enginecoolant. Maybe use the scantool for the actual temperature?
Tired of Chinese POS parts!
twerking pressure

Ray try a new brake drum on your go pro
Why don't you buy the tool that takes those fans off and on? It uses air also.
“New” parts nowadays awful. No guarantee they will work or last.

Autozone sensors…they suck! Had to try 3 to get a good one. 👍
Water pump? Just guessing before watching.
Maybe the bios/firmware got corrupted.
Crap bits from Chyna.

Hi Ray, it is great to hear that your reputation has spread and you are now the go to automotive diagnostician, and automotive rocket surgeon.
🤜🤛 and I hope you have a great day.
Regarding the Gopro A wise man once said just because its shiny and new, doesn't mean it will work a damn, faulty part, exchange that part !
take it to the ones you bot it from an have them fix it .
