Lets have a look at this Pontiac G5 and figure out why the key dinger does not ding and the headlight on warning dinger has lost its charm... This is a fairly common problem with GM's in general so it may help you fix yours.

    The problem is that water leaks in past that inner door plastic seal. The black sealant lifts away from the door and water passes through. My g5 had the same thing. Also the trunk and rear doors used to fill with an ocean of sloshing water at every rainfall. When the buzzer wouldn’t work I locked my keys in the car 12 times. I developed a way to break into the car with a hardcover book and a coat hanger. Ended up drilling holes at the bottom of all the doors and trunk to drain the water…ridiculous gm quality. I got rid of that car (to the scrapper).

    Good diag. I would want to know what caused BOTH front speakers to blow, and if they blew at the same time…I've listened to a lot of loud music in my time, and never blown one to the point where it is silent…weird…

    Front component speakers are typically 4 ohm and 4 ohm wired together to achieve a 2 ohm load or 8 & 8 wired together to achieve a 4 ohm load! In this case if they are components and if they are still wired together it would read roughly around 2 ohm so in this case, again if components, it should read a total of 4 ohm with the woofer and tweeter together! But just the woofer being tested it should read something near 2 ohm

    It depends on the speaker, they come in a 4,6 or 8 ohm resistance. The lower the resistance the more power hungry it is (such as on a amp in aftermarket applications) but honestly since a speaker says it's a certain ohm doesn't mean it's always that, a speaker resistance can go all the way up to 45 ohms. It's really all over the place depending on what hertz it's playing at and other variables that come into play.

    Speakers are rated at impedance, not resistance. Impedance pertains to the average ability to pass analog sinusoidal waveforms.

    You do nice work and I appreciate your intuitive attacks on electronic problems. But perhaps you don't fully understand the difference between resistance and impedance. A really good choke coil (say for a power supply) should have low DC resistance but high AC impedance. Same with high power loudspeakers. Low DC resistance but say 4 or 8 ohms of impedance at audio frequencies. The formula for impedance of a coil is
    XL = 6.28 x f x L
    where
    XL is the inductive reactance in ohms,
    f is the frequency in Hertz, and
    L is the inductance in Henrys.

    When in series, a resistance and an inductive reactance are added at right angles, so 1 ohm of resistance and 1 ohm of inductive reactance ("XL") give 1.414 ohms of impedance. We can get into phase angles later.

    Resistance is a concept used for DC (direct currents) whereas impedance is the AC (alternating current) equivalent.
    your tester is using DC. so it will not reflect the correct impedance. just so you know.

    the ohms rating is the load to an alternating current. it's based on inductance and frequency. to A DC ohm meter, the coil is just a bunch of wire. that's why you're not getting the residence you thought you would.

    Someone else may have already said it, but speakers have 9 Ohms of Impedance (resistance at the alternating type of current they see for an audio signal). For DC it will almost always be 0 ohms.

    Very odd to see 0 ohms on a good speaker… Somethin' ain't right there… Keep in mind that what's printed/spec'd on the speaker is the impedance, rather than the resistance. The DC resistance you're measuring with your scope will always be below the rated impedance of the speaker, except in cases where you're measuring multiple drivers on one connection (Coaxial type vehicle speakers and the like). 🙂

    Great video! Dunno why GMs are so prone to this issue, but I see it more often than I'd like to.

    nice video just to let you know car speaker are 4ohm house speakers are 8ohm and to do a quick test on the speaker u can touch a 9 volt battery to both terminals quickly and the speaker should move and make a light thud depending on polarity the speaker will go in or out

    The reason your didn't get a 4 ohm reading when measuring the new speaker is that audio components are reactive devices.  They have a resistance, but it is a reactive resistance and can not be measured with a standard meter.  You need to use a reactance meter to measure the resistance on reactive components.If you made your  measurement with a reactive meter, you would have gotten a reading of 4 ohm (typically for car audio) or 8 ohms.Same thing when measure inductors.

    Pretty much all speakers are 2 to 16 ohm. Car speakers are pretty much all 2 to 4 ohm with a DC resistance in the 0.8 to 4.5 range.
