Come along with Eric & Ivan in this diagnosis as Ivan double checks Eric's original diagnosis on this 2008 Ford Escape 3.0 AWD. It turns out it is not always as simple as replacing the EVAP vent and calling it a day.

Also unless your checking fuses you shouldn’t be stabbing around with a test light, a fused meter would be much safer at least that’s what they taught in LMV industries classes. Then again this is just a Ford Escape. BMW or Mercedes big damage can be done. These guys are good tho, I need to learn how to use a scope. Not gonna act like I know how haha

I’ve def seen the pcm be the cause of this fault on some Audi’s in the past A6 and a TT, they didn’t believe me but I was right lol now I have a 06 ranger I’m looking at, I’m thinking it’s the same thing I’m gonna look again today.

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars AJM patriot says:

Help me understand please. With the evap vent solenoid being normally open, I would expect that when voltage is applied that the vent would close. It appears that during the testing after the PCM was installed after the dealership reflashed it that Ivan was commanding the circuit on which was dropping voltage to 0. I'd expect that commanding the circuit on would result in voltage being applied and commanding off would remove voltage and result in the solenoid resuming its normally open position.

So when you want to hook a computer up upside down you have to hit the connection harder. Thanks. Still, aren't you tempted to examine the old PCM guts to see if the failure shows?

    Always a good diagnostic. Thanks!

last year my 2010 escape got a recall for a reason that could cause fumes in the car and they had to take out my back seats to get at something. now i wasn't having problems with the fumes before the fix but i have been ever since. the ford tech said i might be able to smell gas for a little bit then it would go away but it's been a year now, i really don't want to take it back to them because they seem to create problems and not fix any, any input at what i should look at? i should add i only smell fumes when i fill it past 3/4 of a tank, anything below that is fine.

Great video guys, yeah I know how those dealers are! I once had 2 new 2007 chevy 3500 plow trucks that would overheat in the plowing season, the dealer service rep. said we should take the plows off and carry them in the beds between parks, I checked with some guys on a site called BAT Auto and one guy sent me a service bulletin for the exact problem which gave me a list of parts needed which was a new fan clutch that took care of the problem, which was under warranty, now why couldn't the G.M dealer do this ? never trusted them again after that. I gave all of this information to the plow installer who said he had people complaining of the same problem and boy was he ever happy.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Hola! John Rodrigues says:

I wonder if the PCM, if you disassemble the outer case, is a 3 component system inside. Or three boards and other words. My curiosity is can you replace the middle board with the one out of the off-the-shelf used PCM? Assuming there is three boards as opposed to one board with three plugs.

My problem was evap purge solenoid I would get quad driver fault code . This just means 1 of the 4 or more are bad . Using a vacuum pump should be able to find the culprit. After buying one of these junk pumps I found out they rent them to you at autozone for cheap. I fixed mine by getting an acdelco solenoid put on it all my lights stopped.Mine allows flow during like freeway . Otherwise it closed when parked in driveway. So there should be no flow between solenoid acts like a valve and it energized by pcm during non idle events . It like a check valve between engine purge canister and fuel tank . Store gas is sent to intake when purge solenoid energizes and opens a path between the purge canister and intake manifold Just follow the hose from the solenoid where it goes after the throttle body.
