Well this fix was pretty straight forward on this old 2006 Pontiac G6. It has a code P0449 Evaprative Emissions (EVAP) vent solenoid control circuit. This is a pretty common problem with theses cars and many other GM products. The test procedure is very standard. Hope you enjoy!

Ok, do you think this might possibly be a fox for P0455? I remember it clicking, and the second it clicked the P0455 (large evap leak) popped up. I think it might be clogged with sand or something

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Aaron says:

I have a p0446 and heard a whining nose whenever I accelerate. 2007 g6 gt. Think it might be evap hose?

Thanks so much for this video!! I have the exact same car (Pontiac G6) and had a vague idea where this vent valve was.
Now I know where and how to get this tricky part off my car, and put the new one on! My tank straps are just as rusty, hope they hold together
during this process so I can put it all back together.
    Awesome video !!

I literally just did that same job on a 07 Malibu, the only difference was I had to undo the fuel filler hose to get it down far enough and I tested it for continuity before I put it up in took me a long time, but got it done!thanks to you!

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Billy says:

    I have a question for a08 G6 2.4.
I already replaced my throttle body 3 times and still the rpm is still high at 4 rpm and disconnected and reconnected the accelerator position sensor on the pedal while motor running and rpm stayed at 4000 rpm … What should I check or look for????

gosh, by this point the snap on tool is becoming a subscription service of 1300 every few months

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Josh Stane says:

For future reference, Iโ€™d advise clearing codes, driving the car for a hot minute (assuming itโ€™s safe, this one wasnโ€™t), then running codes again. You cleared codes than read the codes, of course there arenโ€™t going to be any codes lol

Always enjoy watching your videos. Had to do the same thing to my daughter's G6 convertible. Ugh! No room at all. Hands look like I was in a cat fight…. thanks for your videos.

The patience you exhibit is unbelievable. Decades ago, I did of lot of my own automotive repairs, even replacing a couple of engines, transmissions, etc. As I get older, I find I have less and less desire to go through the frustration of parts that are next-to-impossible to access, or even to get my hands dirty. I'm so thankful there are still guys like Eric to pick up the slack.

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Charity says:

What is the name of the part, so I can order it and or ask for it?

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tom Oakhill says:

AS a professor of computer science it amazes me that Eric O. has to tell the scan tool what car it is plugged into. This is the ultimate in stupidity. Clearly the ECM must know what it is controlling.

I have p0455 on my g6 I replaced the purge valve but still light comeback on, any advice

Thank you for your time and experience. I can't afford to have my wife's Pontiac repaired and your video helps me to get through the procedure. Thank you, Thank you.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J Pol says:

Hey Eric. A lot of us can't afford a scan tool that we have to send in for repair several times a year. Lol In future videos is there any way that you can show without using a scan tool or power probe the easiest optional method for activating things like solenoid vent valves, ac clutches, etc.? Or did I just over think this. A fused jumper from battery positive. (For 12v circuit) Right. How about 5v?Thanks Eric. Cash strapped and Always trying to work around needing more than just a code reader with live data, test light and meter. Tanks. Jpol.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars spiralnapkin says:

Thank you for this! I'm about to do the same thing on the same car.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Timothy Butler says:

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jonathan Bryant says:

You must live up north somewhere cause that car is eat up with salt or corrosion and I donโ€™t have all the fancy computer stuff so Iโ€™m screwed but thanks anyway you are very educational

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Duncan Mac says:

Do you have to pay Snap-On for the repairs every time it breaks down? A job well done, thanks for the video.

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brenton Mobley says:

I did it a bit differently. Dropped the exhaust off the hangers had it held by a dead pole. Used a trans jack on the tank. Removed the filler neck to gain complete access. Oh. Also left the rear driver side bolt in the hanger for the gas tank, just move it out of the way. This was actually an easy job.

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Fishing with Landon says:

Hey there man I love ur video Iโ€™m looking for any help I can get my 2006 3.5 g6 is saying low engine power so it wonโ€™t even rev lights wonโ€™t come on Iโ€™m just wondering whatโ€™s my best option to find out the cause Iโ€™ve read a lil it could be the sensor on the pedal or a faulty wire any advice would be great thank you

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Billyโ€™s Tricks & flicks says:

Why not use your Power Probe and power up the solenoid from the connector. Pretty much has to be open after testing the harness though I guess huh? I was a California Smog tech and its reasons like this I quit doing it. Evaporate canisters have to be visually confirmed every inspection . What a crock of shit GM!

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Billyโ€™s Tricks & flicks says:

Looks like you got a hurricane flood car in your shop with all the flood corrosion

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Khalid Jackson says:

Hey. I got a similar code (P0442) and it also read as the EVAP. I bought the part and installed it but it was in the engine bay next to the throttle body. Ate there 2 EVAP solenoids on this car?

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alfred Dorsey says:

    SMAR very informative info

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Tanker says:

pull it off the clamp before disconnecting the hoses so you can pull it down and disconnect them easier, then reconnect the hoses first.

  49. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary mardirosian says:

Great video. Your excellent teaching saved me about $500 . Working on the ground gives you different challenges. The rear gas tank straps were hard to get back on especially the drivers side. Thanks again.
