Well this fix was pretty straight forward on this old 2006 Pontiac G6. It has a code P0449 Evaprative Emissions (EVAP) vent solenoid control circuit. This is a pretty common problem with theses cars and many other GM products. The test procedure is very standard. Hope you enjoy!

Ok, do you think this might possibly be a fox for P0455? I remember it clicking, and the second it clicked the P0455 (large evap leak) popped up. I think it might be clogged with sand or something

Now I know where and how to get this tricky part off my car, and put the new one on! My tank straps are just as rusty, hope they hold together

I literally just did that same job on a 07 Malibu,the only difference was I had to undo the fuel filler hose to get it down far enough and I tested it for continuity before I put it up in took me a long time,but got it done!thanks to you!

I have a question for a08 G6 2.4.
I already replaced my throttle body 3 times and still the rpm is still high at 4 rpm and disconnected and reconnected the accelerator position sensor on the pedal while motor running and rpm stayed at 4000 rpm … What should I check or look for????
gosh, by this point the snap on tool is becoming a subscription service of 1300 every few months

For future reference, I’d advise clearing codes, driving the car for a hot minute (assuming it’s safe, this one wasn’t), then running codes again. You cleared codes than read the codes, of course there aren’t going to be any codes lol

The patience you exhibit is unbelievable. Decades ago, I did of lot of my own automotive repairs, even replacing a couple of engines, transmissions, etc. As I get older, I find I have less and less desire to go through the frustration of parts that are next-to-impossible to access, or even to get my hands dirty. I'm so thankful there are still guys like Eric to pick up the slack.

AS a professor of computer science it amazes me that Eric O. has to tell the scan tool what car it is plugged into. This is the ultimate in stupidity. Clearly the ECM must know what it is controlling.

Hey Eric. A lot of us can't afford a scan tool that we have to send in for repair several times a year. Lol In future videos is there any way that you can show without using a scan tool or power probe the easiest optional method for activating things like solenoid vent valves, ac clutches, etc.? Or did I just over think this. A fused jumper from battery positive. (For 12v circuit) Right. How about 5v?Thanks Eric. I just swap it out check engine still on, this was freaking hard to swap out if u dont have some pliers similar to what u had, now gotta go back to autozone to see wth is wrong

I did it a bit differently. Dropped the exhaust off the hangers had it held by a dead pole. Used a trans jack on the tank. Removed the filler neck to gain complete access. Oh. Also left the rear driver side bolt in the hanger for the gas tank, just move it out of the way. This was actually an easy job.

Why not use your Power Probe and power up the solenoid from the connector. Pretty much has to be open after testing the harness though I guess huh? I was a California Smog tech and its reasons like this I quit doing it. Evaporate canisters have to be visually confirmed every inspection . What a crock of shit GM!

Hey. I got a similar code (P0442) and it also read as the EVAP. I bought the part and installed it but it was in the engine bay next to the throttle body. Ate there 2 EVAP solenoids on this car?

pull it off the clamp before disconnecting the hoses so you can pull it down and disconnect them easier, then reconnect the hoses first.
