We're gonna get the jack stands and we're gonna pull these front wheels off and we're gonna do a real nice easy pad slat brake job on this particular ramp. I Mean you know you don't have to have jack stands under it? I Could probably avoid that, but because I'm not crawling under it.
and if it was gonna fall since these newer trucks are so high up in the air, it falls, it's not actually going to fall all the way down. And Crush you. but I don't feel like getting a crush today. So I'm putting jack stands under it.

There's not enough money on Earth to get me under a vehicle held up by Horror Freight, Made in (insert communist country with no quality control here) jacks and jack stands. Especially after the fiasco of the jack stands failing, then the replacement jack stands having welds that failed.

Honestly I watch Ray, Scotty and Eric. All great and unique in there own ways.
I watched one Scotty video and that was enough for me, he's just obnoxious and loud. Did he really say you don't need jack stands on modern trucks because they're high up? If he did that's just bonkers…
I don't get it honestly… is it about scotty talking he is using steel jackstand and not aluminimum LOL?
I helped an associate with the changing of his brake pads on a Ford F150 and the right rear rim was seized onto the axle hub which we tried the shade tree mechanic method to knock it off. That was a no go so sprayed with blaster oil and deep penetration oil and started on the front. We got driver side done but the passenger side front sum one stripped one of the locking lug nut onto the stud. Another no go due to tools available to complete the task so brakes were changed in a cross pattern and have to take to a tire shop to remove the lug and seized rim. Sucks when the repairs do not go as wished cause you can't plan repairs
In my experience a 3 ton jack shouldn't have any problems as long as the jack can handle half of your vehicles weight then 4 in each corner you can fully suspend a truck.
Lotta people also don't take into account weight of tools or stuff in a bed or a heavy work box

I don't get it. Did Scotty really say it's safe to get under a new truck with no wheel on a jack or did he make a clickbait video and said it was only safe if you leave the wheel on I feel like Scotty would do that (he totally has done stuff like that before lol)
Funnily enough there are times i dont use a jack stand. (Usually when working on a single wheel where i dont have to be under the car at any point) but only with my own jacks. Of which are serviced regularly and get new seals every couple of years.
However i ALWAYS use jack stands when working at some of my friends houses as iv had two of theirs collapse while lifting let alone getting under it.

Working under my vectra, I now use two 2ton stands to hold it up, and two extra 2ton stands under the jacking points. Just to feel safe. 8 tons of stand capacity under just one axle on a 1.6 ton car. Extra safe.

Scotty is often wrong. I used to watch his channel, until I started REALLY listening, and realized he was full of 💩. Not to mention, My Husband HATES Scotty's voice. I was watching him mainly because he was in NY State at the time.
THEN, one day, I was reading some of his comments, and someone mentioned Eric O. and South Main Auto. I dropped Scotty like a "hot hot hot" bolt, and was watching Eric O. exclusively. Upon reading through comments on HIS channel, I discovered YOU, @RainmanRaysRepairs. Now I get to watch TWO absolute PROs!!!! Both far away. BOTH "The best of the best of the best SIR"! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Mr. Ray is 1259 miles away from me… Not really doable unless I'm in Fl visiting family.
Mr Eric is 192 miles away. I would only drag my car there if I had an issue no one could figure out, as the towing bill would be over $500.
I'm kinda stuck here. I have TWO finicky, older cars, that no one except Midas wants to work on. I got ONE guy near me who will work on them, but he GROANS every time I pull in.
I take, or tow it to him, when it croaks.
I had it towed to him twice.
1st time was a dead fuel pump, left me at the Doctor's office 4 miles away, tow bill was only $50.
2nd time was the Alternator+battery job. Tow bill was only $80 for almost 20 miles. but it took him A FULL DAY to change the alternator due to rusted bolts and having to torch them out. I had him put on a new set of belts while he was there to make him happier, as he had to take the old, but not worn ones off to do the job anyway. My serpentine belt is a double sided groove…. That sucker is like $120 ALONE.
When my VW gets towed in, It's a MINIMUM of an $800 bill. Every. Stinking. Time.
I always say NO when someone wants me to test a theory with my life….🤔😜

Harbor Freight Pittsburgh jack stands, lol? That's the brand that had the recall, a while back, due to the teeth spontaneously not doing their job, resulting on the vehicle suddenly dropping more or less instantly (okay, 32.17405 feet per second – but, seeing as how there's far less than 32.something to fall…). Yeah, man, with the choice of using those or just winging it, you probably actually are safer to do without. At least then you'll have the tendency to stay as far back as you can, only stick one arm into the wheel well, and never, ever have your hand/wrist/arm under the brake rotor, lower suspension components, or anything else that could conceivably end up forming the upper "slice of bread" in a ground / pulped body part(s) / heavy metal sandwich.
Admittedly, that does not appear to have the same part number as the three-ton jack stand that was part of the recall. And, besides, those fine employees of Jiaxing Golden Roc Tools Co., Ltd. (who actually manufacture the "Pittsburgh" jack stands) would have changed the design. Or if it's one of the many tools made in China exclusively for export to the USA… at least the model number on the stickers they slap on the things.
In regards to the Pittsburgh jack stands, though, there is actually strong evidence that Jiaxing Golden Roc Tools Co., Ltd. really did change the design of their jack stands, when Harbor Freight was forced to recall them. After all, the things were recalled because the teeth that were supposed to hold the posts up where the user set them – and, thus, the vehicle – didn't do their job. The replacements, on the other hand, didn't have that problem. Because the replacements had faulty welds that allowed the entire jack to collapse.
You sure had a lot less "Bad Practice poster child" moments when you were working for someone else. . . .

I always secure my vehicle. I have no jack stands so I use the wheels plus woods to support my car. I even add stopper on the wheels. Never trust your jack and brakes they'll kill someday.

As much as I trust my hydraulic floor jack, I trust my jack stands more. It less painful to prevent accidents than it is to recover from them.

Well a jack is only as good as it’s ’O’ ring seal and as that’s fail anytime part it makes a bit of sense to use a stand under the big heavy thing lol
Having recovered a body from under a car that was on one jack only I can tell you it ain't worth it. His wife was going ballistic telling us to just get on with our jobs and resuscitate him. Paramedics had already called it and we were sent some 30 minutes after the initial call. His wife found him when she came back from shopping. They lived in a rather isolated cottage so no-one was ever going to save him. Best estimate was he dies some 2hours previously but his wife was convinced we could resuscitate him but just wouldn't. It was absolutely heart breaking. The guy was only 32 and they had two young children at school. Jack, stands…at least two and on solid ground plus wheel chocks AND have someone with you.

When I was young (and stupid) I was working on a car without stands and it dropped on my leg, to cut a long story short the crush injury I got gave me a blood clot that could have killed me. I never, repeat, never work without stands.
