Getting ready to do this on my 13 outback. I think they might be due at 140k. Had a dealer replaced short block due to oil consumption, but I doubt they put plugs in it then. Could be wrong, didnt think to ask…

One of your best videos Eric O.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Johnny Sechrist says:

I've used old airlines and gas line to start plugs…since the beginning of time…..Nope I never tuned up King Tuts chariot………..ooopppsss you forgot antiseize on those aluminum heads.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars TL Stanbro says:

Do you ever have customers coming in and check on you make sure you’re doing it right

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Gruber says:

The first time I changed sparkplugs on my Forester it took me 90 minutes. Now I'm down to 45. On the rear plug I use two small extensions. The first one goes on the socket and once that has disappeared, I attach the second. There is just enough room to break the plug loose. Then I remove the wrench, the second extension, and work the plug out with the first extension.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alan Robison says:

Dang! I can remember changing the plugs in my 1978 Chevy PU with an in line 6 cyl. easy peasy!

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andy Bonneau says:

Your torque wrench noise is hilarious. You should start making clicking noises when tightening all fasteners, even when using a wrench. 🙂 Gotta keep those torque nazi's at bay.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donald George says:

It’s a bitch changing plugs. I have a long way to go on my 2017 legacy. Nice job, Eric

  11. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mike White says:

    no antisize on the plugs?

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dave Drew says:

Please clean the battery terminals before reinstalling.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Walter Chapin says:

Maybe already covered but we used to use fuel line placed over the boot end of a plug to place hard to reach plugs into their hole. Makes it easier to start and doesn't exert enough force to cross the threads.

From your videos and the news I can’t tell which is worse in NY, the rodents or the politicians.

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Stephen Siska says:

In my opion alot of people on here dont know what extreme spread deviation is in rifle load development!!!

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doug Mottert says:

where and what brand is that wrench/ socket you are using. please let me know.

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Raffi says:

Always knew you were a genius but now I'm completely sold you're a bona-fide genius. The non rubberized socket tip makes your life 1000 times easier for this job. Wish I knew that before buying the rubberized socket 🙂

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 1337penguinman says:

I actually don't use spark plug sockets at all anymore. Had too many rubber boots end up in places they shouldn't. I do have a couple mainly for that wrench fitting on the end but I remove the boots first thing. Also, I absolutely HATE doing plugs on these. Driver rear is the definition of pain.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 2harrynipples says:

Yes Eric, and when the spark plug holes are really tight I bet you sometimes grab a piece of hose, say the diameter of the windshield washer hose, a foot or two long, slip that over the end of the plug, line the plug up with your fingers and twist away then finagle a socket on for final torque. I'd just like to say a heartfelt thank you for your vids. I know it takes time from your productive hours but there are worse vices a person can have … Thank you !

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars seapeddler says:

A Subaru is similar to a Tucker, however likely it is a Franklin patent.
But no one wants to do the research.

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Melvin Jones says:

too much trouble for 4 spark plugs

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gplus Gplus! says:

Rumor has it that they employ small girls with tartan mini skirts in Subaru japanese dealerships for that kind of job.

I work on large machines all day and watch mechanic videos at night! I’m obsessed!

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paublus Americanus AMERICANUS says:

Thanks Eric for your humor in a sparkling change. Glad my Dodge doesn't start that way after a battery disconnect. I just got one of those push pin kits and walking around my car found about 20 that needed new or changed around the lower half of the car. In the rear they had screws with those metal sliding clips with all the screws missing. So just removed the metal clips and put locking push pins in their place very tightly.

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Swansong 007 says:

I can remember vividly it took only 1/2 hour to change my plugs and points back in 70s

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars F T says:

I watch long range shooting videos also. You should watch videos on Tracking point scope.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars skid mark says:

good thing it was just a 4 cyl!

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joseph says:

4th cylinder (driver side rear) is the worst one to get it out with so little room. My subie had a bad coil pack on 4th went bad. The coil pack seems to be common problem on subie from what i read.

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Klink says:

I can't believe you didn't clean the top of the battery.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mark steele says:

Boy is it ever nice to drive and maintain ' conventional ' vehicles with the plugs and coils on top of the engine….!

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Blue Balls says:

Only a subaru would cause a 44 minute spark plug change video

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Ozzy Krahn says:

    smartest decision, dont get married

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars daddyphatsax304 says:

Focus you F….. lol…i thought i was watching an ave vjo with that first camera angle over the shoulder. I had an impreza the other day that the iridium tip somehow completely eroded away. the same plug had corrosion up at the tip of the coil…just the tip mind ya. 2004 Impreza and still had stock plugs and wires, so no surprise i guess. Some clown did put neon lights all over the interior tho…lol.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

I've just never worked on subarus so I'm interested done plenty of rotary engines a few turban engines and big diesels and cars and pickups

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Shane Harrison says:

That would be me still watching you changing them sparkelators in that suburu

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Donald George says:

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars marc hayes says:

when i buy a used car i look at a few things how easy r the plugs to change, alternator, starter just a few i would never but this car

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Robert Kurtz says:

Hi Eric…thanks for the instructional on how to tune my 2015 Subaru Forrester…cost me $400 for labor at Pep Boys locally in NJ..and I provided the Autolite plugs from Advance auto…it is a little cramped down there…previous cars like my Saab 9-3 (2006)..and Miata (1996)..were a breeze since the plugs were right on the top..of the engine block…

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars wilahinely says:

Appreciate this video. Was able to knock this out in about 2 hours on my 2017 Outback. Will probably take half that time on the next one. I found it wasn’t necessary to disconnect the harness plugs from the coils. Thanks for laying out all the steps Eric!

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars 300DBenz says:

“That guy who does this all day and comes home and gets on the youtube and watches some more of it. Really he doesn’t even know. BECAUSE YOU’RE OBSESSED,THAT’S WHY.”

    I feel attacked.

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Gallagher says:

What would happen if it was the big “ 7 “ liter.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Nathan says:

Some reloading videos would be interesting, as boring as it can be to watch someone else reload, everyone has their own technique and mix of gear. Can't really imagine how your setup would be, considering the home tools versus your shop gear .
