In this video I have a look at a 2007 Subaru that came in to have the taillights looked at. Customer told me they just act weird. Let's have a look see -Enjoy!

My 04 subaru wrx tail lights for night time is not working, but turn signal, brake light, reverse working. With after market head lights fuse all good, not sure about relays
I'm wiring a car myself and this helped me figure out what lights go where on the chassis thanks!
What's that tool that you use to get under the tape before busting out the razor?
Most expensive item in the car was the Electrical Tape.
Why ask why, drink bud dry…😂
As someone who went to tech school and autobody school and has this exact same subaru model with 200k miles i have no idea why that car is in that bad of condition. some people destroy everything they touch. I absolutely LOVE mine. I do all my own work on it and I love it so much, I even repainted it and fixed any rusty areas. I got the thing for free too!
In Both our '05 & '06 Outbacks, the tail light, reverse, plate light and turn signal wires running thru the top of the tailgate hinge area fatigued over time and started shorting & burning out bulbs, bulbs not working and bulbs cross- working. Many of the wires in the hinge were broken, exposed or on the verge of breaking.
Had to cut the wires back into the roof and tailgate and solder in new wires, so as the hinge area would have new, unbundled wires going thru it. I didn't want a wad of heat-shrinked wire connections at a pinch (fatigue) point. Happened in both cars.. obvious design flaw with a tedious time- consuming fix.
You need to charge double to straighten out DIYer's wiring messes. I have bought a couple of semi tractors over the years that were adorned with a myriad of add on lights and doodads, and everyone ended up being a wiring nightmare. After the first couple of experiences with that type of installations, when I bought a used truck, I stripped off anything not factory and made sure there were no surprises to be had once the salt hit the roads in the winter time.
Good video, Eric.
Strange that both rear light bulbs per fixture is 7443, but only one has both filaments used._
Don’t be a Jerry !!
Who's the most eligible Bachelor at SMA?
This is why I don't do anything with wiring… if you want your radio and rear camera… go to a professional. What a hack job. Boss audio? A cheap system too
Dual element bulb is for the fog light, not fitted in North America
To remove the tape I have found that a dress makes seam ripper works well .
“Bad ground folks, I know, I can hear ya.” 😂😂😂😂
Third hand info, but, watching most auto repair vids, somebody (maybe Joe's auto electric) passed on to somebody else, who I happened to pick it up from, that a sewing 'seam ripper' works well for 'un-taping' such as this. Mrs. O might even have one you can mis-appropriate.
Bad ground and everything goes cray cray
Gosh Eric is so talented.
Also that little tool to stop you cutting wires is great.
Out here in the SOCAL desert, all homes are built on floating concrete pads. When the earth moves and our floor tiles snap up, we call it: "Bad ground"
A bit of rustproofing would have helped this car
What's with the loud buzzing sound when it goes into reverse? Is that something only being picked up by the camera, or can you hear it in real life?
Speaking of strippers in the trunk. Former congressman Allen Howe of Utah was caught in a sting operation in the red light district of SLC. He told the Police that he was on his way to a political meeting on the west side when his car broke down, and he was just asking the nice ladies on the street if they could help him find a truck and a tow job.
I've got a Boss head unit and wireless backup camera in my '07 Accent. Did get it professionally installed. They make decent stuff. Been 5-7 years now and it's still working.
Did you see the center brake light wasn't complete?
The old days they were 1056 and 1057 bulbs.
I live wiring problems–I can watch other people fix them all day.
I own a 2010 Subaru impreza with about 67 preview owners of dubious mechanical background. I had a similar issue with all the brake light bulbs blown. Luckily, it was simply that the previous owner didn't replace them as they burned out, until non were left. When I did a brake job right after buying the car for pennies on the dollar, I discovered 3 different brands of pads, and 2 siezed calipers. A wheel bearing making all kinds of racket, and exhaust leak the size of Texas. Needless to say after a few weekends of fixing it up here and there, welding up the exhaust, she's ran great for 2 years. I paid less for it than you can buy a decent used 4 wheeler so I've been pretty happy with it. Thanks for the video. I have learned a lot from your content!
Chevy Cruze trunk lid lamp units are dual element ones as well (3057 bulb, instead of a single filament unit).
$1,000 radio in a $500 car.
There's a lesson here.
Watching too much neutral drop, you are talking like those guyz. Do not swallow the razor blade.
Very impressive troubleshooting.
I enjoy your videos. I try to outthink you. Been at it since 1972. 15 years at Subaru dealer. 33 as independent shop owner. Retired 4 years. Good luck in future. Glad I’m in Ky. Rust not a problem around here. Del
A dozen millennial scooby dudes just said Kenny who? 😂
Clint Eastwood and Kenny Rogers in the same free flow of consciousness! The things inside Eric’s brain friends. Fountain of knowledge. Love me some SMA!!!
Thankyou for pronouncing solder correctly, warms my heart.
Dont be too bummed about getting sidetracked. Mardi Gras beads and strippers will do that to you.
the person who invented those blue scotchlocks needs a good kick in the n#@ts! Maybe the guy before thought the ground was inductive. lol
Why does the client keep a blind squirrel in the trunk?
Why do you even want to work on these crazy wagons. When the repair is more than the car value?
I'm surprised that car didn't come with its own alligator clips…
That could have been so much worse, minus the 6 miles of tape of course.
We have been building cars for 100 years now, and we still have not managed to make working on electrical in cars easier.
It wasn’t Danny Glover. It was Albert Powell.
That ones a junker too Eric.
What a shit box
Fog lights
Mardi Grad beads are more commonly referred to as "Titty Beads". Ladies would get them by flashing their rack to folks on the balconies and get those "beads" tossed down to them. Bragging rights were how many "beads" they could collect. Not a bad trade-off in my opinion!
"And All My Dreams Go Up In Smoke" In tech school my electronics teachers favorite line was "Try not to let the smoke out. If you do, the circuit is ungood". Never will forget that man, one of the smartest people I have ever met. Quiet and unassuming, and brilliant. He was responsible for my getting into auto mechanics and computer system diagnostics. Thanks for teaching me the magic of electronics and it's uses. It has been 47 years and I can still hear him. "Ungood"…. God bless you Mr. G wherever you are…. And thanks……
Broken trunk release. Keyhole smashed to bits. Yeah. That car has been ruined by whoever installed that head unit and camera. I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole.
Where the heck do I get that little tape cutting guard pokey-thing?
