    Lol @ hood prop

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doug Anderson says:

what a crazy amount of work for what amounts to a dummy light. i panicked the first winter i had my second gen dodge, the oil pressure would be 65 at startup and dropped to 15 after warm. turns out, dodge engineers realized people expect the gauge to move, so they programmed it to move relative to the engine temp.. the numbers were meaningless.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Richard Moreno says:

OK most of the time the channel is great. This one doesn't need to pull the intake to deal with the oil pressure sending unit.

for some reason, losing the wobbly makes me giggle.

Some of those gages aren't really gages at all, but merely indicators connected to an on/off switch.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Matt Hone says:

Could you have used the scan tool to see the measured oil pressure from the sensor to see if the gauge was reading what it was being told?

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Watch Videos says:

When the wobbly fell, all I could say was “gravity”

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brad says:

Using the scan tool, can you activate the water pump and cooling fans? If so u could do that to cool the engine down after without turning the car on. (I'm guessing the water pump is mechanical though)

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Werner Danler says:

I guess it's these new fangled electronic binacles that cause this problem. My experience with oil pressure sensors goes back at least 50 years. They showed nothing on the gauge when they went bad. Some even had an oil line that went up to the gauge.

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars auto tech89 says:

So your going to charge the customer more because you dont want to squeeze your hand back by the firewall because your scared to get your hand and arm warm its not that hot IV have replaced 100s of the oil pressure sending unit and never had to remove the intake. Talk about a scammer

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Maxx Michael says:

    invest in some magnetic sockets

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JOHNNY SOLANO says:

Alright so by the book you have to take off the intake… Which you dont. Get an OEM Tools oil pressure socket from autozone. Then have a half inch swivel and a short extension. Maybe 3 inch. And thats all. The hardest part is to feel for the sensor. Once you have it disconnected its easy. The socket just falls in. Of course you can test your socket on the new part before finding you may have bought the wrong one. The sensor at autozone is $35…. With a lifetime warranty.. yes "well im special which makes the car special and it needs an original" fine spend the extra dollars at the dealership. No warranty by the way since its an electrical item with a 20% restocking fee.Either way… When doing a diagnostic sometimes it just better to replace a $35 part instead of wasting an hour time extra and etc…. Also its like $250-$350 job cause of the intake. I just be humble for like $200 plus the part and make that in 15 min. If the changing the sensor didnt work then you can say its a circuit issue. But for $20 which is what your shop bought for and charged the customer probably $120 its isnt worth all that headache. Nay sayer out!!

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Maxx Michael says:

the speedometer guage is starting to fail… it did not go to 120 when u did the guage test….. just recommend new truck… 😎

Duh – I have that socket – why don't you?

  52. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Oscar Jones says:

You actually removed the intake? I’ve replaced dozens of those with the sender socket, extension, and a swivel. Never once had an issue. 10 minute fix. Back when I was a kid working part stores, I’d just do them for people in the lot because I was so fast with them.

  53. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jeremy R says:

You didn't show reinstalling the fuel pump relay, therefore you must not have done it…. I wonder how it started? LMAO

  67. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Smith says:

I put thread tape on the threads of the sending unit, no idea if it's necessary but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

  68. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Furballami says:

All right, here is a sincere question, since it was showing too much pressure in the oil, at the beginning of the video how come you did not show us how much oil was actually in the engine to make sure that it wasn’t overfilled by a whole bunch? I would’ve liked to seen what the oil dipstick said before you perform doing everything that you did. I would’ve done that just to knock out something that would’ve been just so easy as pulling out a dipstick. I know you’re the mechanic and I love watching your stuff but that is a legitimate question

  69. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rhkips says:

GM Wiring Harness Removal Process: Wait approximately 100,000 miles, and the wiring harness will remove itself.

I have to apologize, Ray. I was genuinely bracing for a massive fuel dump, and I squealed in delight when you cut to the fuse box to pull the fuel pump relay out.

I really have nothing of actual value to contribute to today's video, so I'll leave you with a story from today.

Today was my first day at my new job as an in-field trainer with a mobile diagnostics company. Basically, I do ride-alongs with the lowest-producing technicians to figure out why they're struggling, and help them improve. I rolled up on a tech on his first job this morning, and discovered that the only tools he owned were a Snap On Verus Pro, an SAE combo wrench set, and a flathead screwdriver. I'm not a drinking man, but I considered it today… LOL

Stay safe in that hurricane, brother!

  70. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars BlackBuzzzard says:

Wonder why GM decided a special socket was needed?

  71. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars pcs0snq says:

  74. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doosh Baggins says:

Take care Ray, I don't want to lose you to a hurricane. I used to live near Mobile AL… got tired of all the hurricane dodging and moved 300 miles north.

  75. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Travis R. says:

oil pressure sending unit is common

  76. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lee Stot says:

wow a Chevy with oil pressure

  77. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sam Jackson says:

    Take care. 👍

  78. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael SanAngelo says:

I hear Yelawolf in the background about halfway into the video. nice. one of my favs as of late.

also, an oil pressure sensor at the back of the engine sounds like a bad spot to me. at least on my old ford it was right by the oil filter. :/

also also, with a hurricane approaching, it makes me wonder if that truck will survive and render all the work for nothing. welp, hope you can stay dry down there. hurricanes don't look fun from the videos I see. it's like a constant gust of wind and rain. 🙁

  79. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Superbonker9000 says:

I'm here for the brake cleaner shots 😭 what the hell???? Seriously , take care of yourself and the family Ian looks bad.

  82. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Sir Lancelot says:

  83. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kory Taylor says:

    Good video Ray !

  84. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Steve Canfield says:

Gm gives you 4/10’s to replace that no way to do that if you pull the intake

  85. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars cmc2000 says:

Great video Ray. Hope you and your family stay safe with the hurricane coming. Be safe.

  86. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars huzudra says:

Pro-tip, get smaller hands. About 1/2 the time I can unplug them and once it's unplugged the sensor can be removed without pulling the intake off. The other half of the time the intake has to come off because the clip is rotated the wrong way. 100% of the time they need intake gaskets anyway.

  87. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alec Rollins says:

Why do they use a socket for the oil pressure sender that's more unique than many security lug nuts? Designed in Germany, made in Thailand?

  88. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Phazed says:

can't leave out the doo de dooo

  89. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars PlagueSD says:

I had that same symptom on my 83 mustang years ago. Turns out that the oil pressure sending unit got sheared off from a frayed serpentine belt. New belt and sensor, back to normal.
