20min wheel bearing replacement.. can’t beat that…im going to try it
Watching the video it looks like an easy job but need some tools I don't have. I see the tool with a chizel head to try to remove the assembly. That is the main one I do not have. I assume it hooks to some klind of compressor tool. Is this expensive? Without a garage lift we are doing things on the ground with car stands and jacks. The vehicle I have ia a lot older (2009) hybridm, but the part looks the same from what I ordered from AUTO ZONE. So I think this video will track quite similar. The torque specs I will need to look up.
Now one last question. I have a small mobile mechanic who offered to install it for me for $250 (I know I can get him down to $200 easily). What is the groups thoughts on this. It is worth my doing it or should I consider letting him do it. It depends on how much the tools will cost too I guess. I will need to buy the sockets for the large nut and the chizel head tool. The rest I should have.

If you live in an area with road salt…you might find this job impossible as completed in this video. My bearing hub could not be removed with a 22-ton press from behind the knuckle! It required heating the nuckle and a heavy equipment puller plus a 1000lb impact on the puller. It basically exploded on release, sending parts flying 20 feet. That was after soaking in penetrating oil for a night. So… your mileage may vary with air impact tools. I tried to do it with an impact hammer and a 4 lb sledge, and it would have taken a year.
The brake clean. Lmao. And I thought I was alone. I have a suggestion for Prius owners, use original parts when it comes to your Prius. I'm at 238,000 miles with basic maintenance, God willing will make it to 500,000

Good video. If I'm not mistaken, the first socket you used in the video looks to be a chrome 12 point socket. Those are prone to shatter when used with impacts and you are not wearing safety glasses. Safety 1st my friend!

I have a long-standing personal policy of doing both sides when bearings need replacing in my rides on the basis of where one is gone the other won't be far behind (experience with fleets was that they'd usually be a few months apart). Do you recommend that for your clients or only do it if they ask?
I love the 1 piece hub n barring! We always used a bfh to get them out! You do magic with that air chisel..
Just buy a knuckle from the junkyard or eBay, most come with a ball joint makes it super easy and quick

Dear experts in the comments section who have clearly never done this job:
You haven't outsmarted the professional mechanic. Yes, he owns the ubiquitous tool you rented at AutoZone.
YOU CANNOT USE A SLIDE HAMMER OR A BOLT THROUGH THE WHEEL STUD HOLE TO PULL THIS HUB ASSEMBLY That isn't a catch-all method for every situation. It will just separate the inner & outer bearing race. Once the inner race is out, there's no place to use a conventional puller for the remaining half of the hub. You MUST break it free from the corrosion inside the knuckle. Bashing the shit out of it in a rotational direction is the only practical way to do so.
Now, go back to nit-picking This Old House videos or something.
I did this in my driveway without an air hammer. For a week, I spent about 2 hours every day wailing on the thing with a goddamn sledgehammer. And yes, I used penetrating oil & a torch. I nearly jizzed in my pants when the fucking thing finally came loose. I'll be buying a new tool when the other side starts to groan… Also, fuck New England & what the weather does to vehicles.

Go to Home Depot and get you a rope ratchet strap to pull on some of the different scenarios you come up against, for example pulling brake calipers up higher
