When u say use a test light.. does it matter what kinda test light does the bulb in side matter? .. and what the reason for using the test light and not v meter?

Great vid. I drive a 2003 Tacoma, and just dealt with the O2 sensors. The studs and nuts were rusted bad on mine (I live in the rust belt of Eastern Canada) but by some miracle and a wire brush I got them cleaned up enough for the new sensors. When it looked bad for the studs, I did a quick surf on youtube to see if anyone had found a solution for this in case I wrecked a stud, and I found a video of this guy doing the sensors on a Sienna mini van. He took the existing studs out with heat and vise grips, and just used bolts for the sensors- seems to me a better solution, since there is no exposed thread to rust away, the bolts are inside the flange. I didn't go this route, since I salvaged my studs, but would probably if I had to replace an exhaust piece that had a sensor flange in it. One of the few careless engineering flaws I've found in these trucks (I've had 3 of them) besides the bad frame issues.

I had a 2000 Tacoma which threw up a rear O2 sensor. Truck had no get up and go. 30 MPG was the only good thing, after fix dropped back down to 15 MPG, but full power again. The problem was a dirty mass air sensor.

That's way to long to have the RPMs settle down to around 700.
Toyota's '01 exhaust O2 sensors where a weak spot. The only part I had to replace in 13 years other than regular maintenance was my front exhaust oxygen sensor. The wire was part of the sensor so you need a socket with a small slit in it and a very hot engine to remove it.

My current Toyota has had an occasional tip in hesitation since I bought it new. Maybe 3 or 4 times a month it will do that. I got used to it and figured there is no way I would ever find it. Other than that it's the best vehicle I've ever owned with 145K on it.

Glad to see you are not a beer guzzling, cigarette hanging out of the corner of your mouth, dirty clothes that needed washing 3 months ago, untied shoe laces, garbage cans overflowing, windows never ever been cleaned, doom and gloom explanation of the repair and how much work is involved and that's why the price is 4 times what any honest shop will quote you !!! SMA is the needle in the hay stack, lots of hay shops like what I just described …… when you find the needle shop (SMA) you know you won the NY lottery of great service, fair price, just the facts ma'am, quality parts [ Dorman :- ) ] and someone who stands behind their work !!!!! And I certainly hope you have Keurig coffee or cold water for your customers, along with a SMA souvenir !!!! You and SMA are surely a pillar of the Avoca town !!! PS Check up on Vinny !!!!

All O2 senors are the same unless they are air fuel ration sensor,,, Then they are indeed different.
My 06 Subaru does this. When I take off from a stop, she bucks a couple times and then takes off.

Our 99 3.4 Toyota 4runner runs worse after using a can of seafoam, 1/4 through the Pcv hose and poured the rest in the gas tank, now sounds like it's missing 2 cylinders until you throttle the engine up to about 3,000 RPMS then it mostly smooths out?

You could make a nice test fixture by taking the bad O2 sensor connector and wires and putting a small 12 Volt taillight on the heater wires. That will be a nice load and foolproof telltale whether the heater circuit is live. Do that twenty times and you'll have enough test fixtures to cover maybe half the cars!

Come one, Eric. Use some stainless steel nuts on the O2 sensor. Keep it sealed up for safety reasons; don't want CO2 leaking into the vehicle.
My 99 4Runner 3.4l has an intermittent CEL. I was told it is an O2 sensor. The engine runs fine when the light is on or off.

Question for you though. I've got a 2015 Tacoma V6 that's used for offroad. The truck had 4 cats on it originally. The front two cats were removed after installing long tube headers. This causes a permanent check engine light as the rear set of 02 Sensors don't get the read they expect without those cats. Can this impact fuel economy? What I'm seeing online suggests the post-cat 02 Sensors only trigger the Check Engine Light and don't impact fuel trims, etc. That true in your experience?
I got a 1997 toyota camry 2.2 throwing a p0136.. There is a separation from the down tube to the flex pipe. I didn't throw any O2 codes until the pipe started to break.
Holes in the exhaust system can throw p0136 and just fix the hole and it goes away.

Excuse me for being dumb, how on other three wire sensors where the bypass tests can be done when unplugged the voltage on the scan tool shows 5v but when on o2 sensors when unplugged goes to 0v

Eric…need your advise. I have an 08 Honda FIT with 160K on her. This summer the A/C has gone wonky and nobody can figure it out. ONLY on oppressive humid days does the A/C blow hot air. The clutch is engaged while this is happening, and the R134A level is fine, as are the Low and high side pressures. Once the humidity goes down, the A/C works wonderful again. What would cause the A/C to blow hot air ONLY when the humidity is oppressive? Thanks much for any advise on this.
