Volkswagens engineering departments did their job… they figured out that the bolt does not clear the trans pan… they did not feel like redesigning everything… they figured out that dropping the subframe provides the clearance needed… dropping the subframe when disassembling the front suspension is written into the repair manual… everybody went home job done.
The Powertrain Engineers designed a clearance envelope around the motor, and the Body Engineers designed a clearance envelope around the inner body space
But the two of them did properly compare envelopes. So it is easily dropped in on the assembly line, but you can't work on it.
Holy Frijole that spindle bolt was on tight!
REEEEEE new comment on an old vid so the algorithm boosts the video more! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Love ya Ray! Keep up the awesome vids
I want your shop's phone ring tone for my cell
A little disappointed – I thought for a second I would get to see the Snap-On snap off. 🤷♂️
Aweeee Raymond cussed! Lol family channel remember? Hehe. Happens to the best of us bub
i love this multi part removals. Your vids are great and so consistent. always watchin till the end
I find mad that big garages in the USA replace customers own parts and second hand part I work for the biggest auto repair company in England and all the big companies here only replace new parts and supplied by us we have small independent garages that do that but not the main street ones even erico South main does it , anyway Ray love the content top man also them them connectors on vag cars ie vw audi seat the trick is push the connector forward then press the tab and pull no tools needed hope that helps from a fellow tech from England
When you said “ oh shit” it reminded me of the many times I get into a supposedly simple repair…..and it goes sideways. I never assume that simple repairs will be simple anymore. Lately fixing stuff around here has been a hassle. Random thoughts from an old do -it-yourselfer. Thanks for taking time to share your skills/experiences Ray. Dave Heitman in Omaha
And if Ray is a very good boy, Santa might bring him. 1/2" breaker bar!
Good job well done 👏.
The "why" of German engineering….. they dont give a shit…. thats why…. End user is stuck with bad engineering…. there is always that part on a car where its poorly engineered….. however some cars its from bumper to bumper….
U do know nicht is Russian not German right? U should be saying nine
RAY German engineering is the best and you know it VEE AV VAYS OV MAKIN YOU TOK U SVINE
Your lucky, the jam nut on tire rods tends to rust weld itself to the metal its touching up north. I got mad at the last one I worked on and used a plasma torch to cut it free. Heat, pb blaster and other methods were not working.
So we are told never ever use chrome sockets with an impact wrench. While I believe there is an element of truth to that and like it's something like Ray, I approach with caution and only out of necessity of not having the correct socket, still I have also never seen evidence of the catastrophic failure that has been warned about; AAMOF any failure beyond the nut simply not coming off. I have done a pretty good web search of videos, and while I found a few that tried to destroy a chrome socket with an impact wrench, none succeeded. There was one anecdotel story of a person that had their hand wrapped around a chrome socket that disintegrated using an impact wrench, but that sounded pretty dangerous just in principle. Again not a recommendation, but a curiosity nevertheless
Ray, Tip…with Audi VW connectors…because how latch is designed push connector IN when de-latching before pulling conn body out.
I asked my friend dad who works at vw and he said “I vorks at zee german volksvagen factory und zays zee bolts are to keep dumb Florida man mechanics like vu from getding your hands on zier zuberior Hengineered broduct. Arh ! Keep your boor poy hands off zee car und let ein real german mechanic fix it”
Bayling wire was a good idea(makes a good cotter pin too) … they want it el cheapo…
Lol junkyard quality might be better than what's on it!
snap on tools are the best i can vouch for them as ive got loads of them
Owner got really lucky. About a year ago, a Corolla tried to eat my F150…front drive-side wheel first. It lost, my truck prevailed. But I did spend the rest of the year restoring my truck. (Insurance totaled it. But it's an heirloom truck, so I bought it back and executed all repairs myself.)
Volts wagon BMW Chevy and a few others use cheap plastics and wiring great video
there is a reason why Volkswagen is known as "Adolfs revenge"
Not a Volkswagen tech but I believe the purpose of the transmission blocking the bolt is "billable hours".
3/8" on an axle nut.. are you trolling? lol I sheared a 1/2" trying to get one off.. Went to 3/4" after that. F those things.
VW racist lol
Why dosent erupean drive american cars? Cuz we like qulity and cars that can survive our winters.
'check engine light is on. This is normal for VW' 🙂 🙂
My man with the picture in picture
You normally use a strut spreader for the damper to hub connection.
Crazy…Just crazy. I'd be cussin' all day long.
All that work and not yet resolved.
Kudos for your patience Ray….
No breaker bar??
Twisted T- Bone Tiguan. That's on the menu for tonight's dinner.
Transmission is low on fluid or going out
LOL Engaging safety squint.
Love the "Reach Around" cam
Jam nut on on tie rod locks alignment correct? and that adjustment is toe in and toe out?
I think VW does this for payback for losing WWII !!!
Level 3.5
K D used to make a cheap pair of those pliers
Spline drive
I hate triplesquare! I was doing a wheel bearing on a 07 vw passat and needed triple square for the caliper and mounting bolts for the bearing as well. Love watching your videos, I'm a newer mechanic and love learning from your videos and having a good time while I'm at it
already bought some and both angry pliers from your link
just cut it and turn the new one around
Thos triple square bolts a called "viel zahn" in german wich literally translates to "many tooth" wich I think is quite fitting if you look et them
Loosen bolt enough to use hacksaw on bolt head
Thanks Ray for another great video, I think that I'm getting addicted to them. Do you realise that 15/16 and 24 mm are for all intents and purposes identical ? Watching you struggle with the rear lower control arm bolt made me think evil thoughts .I was wondering how effective 1/2 kg of C4 would work.
