I'm glad your having a bad day. I was starting to romanticize Being a mechanic watching your videos. But now nope. I'll just keep doing what I do.

Greetings: I know the feeling. I service med and Hvy trucks, auto, Marine, RV and Etc electrical / electronic primarily now. I got away from mechanical Bcuz of the PIA junk a lesbian woman engineered Bcuz she was pissed at men. The new crap is not meant 4 service. It is a replace world now. Indeed Doorman sux as well as many others. Fortunately I am near a large city of many Dealerships and years of business with them. It is usually a customer's choice of junk parts. So I have my own secret of compensating their crap labour reimbursements and customer being cheap… Without cheating them of coarse. I am glad I do do mechanical. I do not envy the good mechanics at good shops. I do congratulate U on Ur patience tho. Hours on wearable parts- starters, pumps, hoses, plugs, belts, Rad, compressor, Etc is ridiculous. The older stuff was great. Belts, pumps, starter, Rad… 30 min – 1hr R&R then on the road 4 another 100,000+ mi. 2day it is 50,000 if lucky. Vehicles cost 7x more new and last 7x less. Pay more 4 less. The new economist's formula 2 wealth. Ppl no longer have respect, pride, integrity and skills 2 do their job right. Yet they want match or above compensation. Society is going 2 crap. Parents R not parents and kids trying 2 B bad adults. R these children the investment of our future? Good old home training, respect and life survival skills should should B instilled in youth from the tit. Chores, responsibility, accountability and respect never hurt children. However it did form decent societies and countries centuries past.
The Feds R no different. The idea of "government 4 the people, by the people" is gone. Bring in the camouflaged socialists that want control by deception. Example: "Homeland Security" The (contradiction of terms), NSA is another and the Real ID Act. Read it. Imagine the scenarios of good Ppl living their lives decades without a COB yet legally (obtained Pre Real ID) have ID / DL now stripped of such. Now they have a snowballing catastrophe of life survival. Some have families, 10yr+ jobs, homes, property, vehicles, Etc… Now lost Bcuz of the snowball effect of no ID DL. Many now 'homeless' and split families. The kicker is they did nothing wrong and cannot vote 2 change it. But U can. Educate U and others, rally, peaceable protest, vote 2 repeal the Real ID Act. Good day. Thx 4 the share.

A bad, very bad day! Your video displayed how replacement parts and even OEM can be "junk." The best part of the video though was how Mrs. O rubbed your back and shoulder. What a great partner. I could feel your stress.

I am still waiting for Cardone to do something with the steering gear I put in a 1984 chevy 1500. A Saginaw power steering gear should be well understood on how to rebuild. I should of rebuilt it myself!

I buy all I can from Dealer. It's worth paying more for better-built parts.

Even going dealership doesn't guarrantee qualify parts

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doug Kelley says:

You used dorman because you try to respect your clients pocket books. You just care to much.
I do the same thing and I know better. Dorman sucks.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars James Stuart says:

Why not just install an OEM part?

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ACathater says:

Had a 1987 300 c.i. Ford that needed a starter. Easy-peasey. Not. After the third faulty reman the auto store tested a couple before I even left the store and #6 was the charm. Lowest common denominatorโ€”rocket scientists are not remanufacturing this junk.

Aftermarket reman/rebuilt parts are getting worse and worse. Only internal parts "deemed" bad are replaced, not all. It is frustrating, and getting worse with parts stores ordering less to keep inventories down.

Next time they ask you for ASE certification just tell them you are a red seal journeyman from Edmonton Alberta Canada, studied at NAIT. Our program is 4 years in shop training and 8 months of school, then 4 intraprovincial exams and an extra red seal exam. You need at least %87 in each term to gain your license. Much more involved than the 2 year ASE training. I have worked with ASE techs here and wow talk about cereal box certification.

feel your pain, on likely 5th lifetime starter on my silverado from autozone. Always fails when its 0 degrees and snowing and usually leaves me at snowmobile camp. I have an 07 sonata, and my niece has a 08. One has 185k the other 220k. Original starter, alternator, and fuel pump on both cars. I can't imagine OEM starters are that much for that car. I looked into it for these cars and they were very affordable.

This is why I feel lucky to have an old-school rebuilder near me. Their so good they even tracked down OEM Bosch parts for my 1964 Karman Ghia.

  34. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars SPEED EZ says:

I donโ€™t know how familiar you are with the parking brake mechanism on 90โ€™s and early 2000โ€™s Mazdaโ€™s, but I just finished dealing with several pretty bad remans, first one from autozone didnโ€™t even come with the piston compressed, and the adjustment screw wouldnโ€™t pull the piston back enough to get it over the pads.

Then I got a cardone off rock auto, and while the piston actually came compressed, the adjustment mechanism was stuck, so I couldnโ€™t properly set the piston, which meant I only got a parking brake on the opposite side.

I ended up burning through 3 adjustment screws in the process before I managed to clear up whatever was causing it to freeze up

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars craig gerber says:

I would still have you fix car. You're honest and caring. Thanks

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alexander Copeland says:

Buying the Dorman like every other Mechanic/ Technician, maybe they improved on themself and doing things right. By the way I usually go with a new from aftermarket place or junk yard starter, as long as it's an OEM starter from junk yard.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Yellow Jacket says:

The Auto industry did away with ASE certifications Back in 2020 Because they wanted to make it easier for mechanics to be classified as backyard Mechanics which Sucks cause i was ASE certified in Diagnosis and emissions Specialist So my credentials are only as good as the bark it is written on

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars boostedsil40 says:

the worst part of this is it can create customer suspicion like if your incompetent/did you diagnose wrong and replace somthing that didnt need it which also means you could be lying to save your butt.

for me this is the worst as id hate for a customer to get suspicious but most will not and understand these things happen

5 rounds then Return to Advanced! Love It………….

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ED Harry says:

Eric I replaced The Starter on my Wife's old 97 Lexus ES /one from Advanced Auto Parts. It Lasted 6 months . I took it back to Advance , They told me it was not covered by warranty . I went to a Junk Yard and bought a used one for $25.00 . I called Corporate @ Advanced to Question why The Starter was not covered ? I was told it was covered . They wanted to know who I talked to , {When & Where, date too} I gave them this information and demanded my money back as I had to go out elsewhere and get another starter.
The money {check } did arrive 3 weeks later. Beware of Advanced Auto , Their Brake Pads, Batteries & Remanufactured parts are NG!
P.S. The Used Starter is still in The car & working fine!………

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars umajunkcollector says:

Have you done jobs with warrenty companies that are supposed to cover repairs, like Endurance or Car Shield. Please make a video about extended warranties and your feelings about them?

  43. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Buster Hymen says:

When I worked in my dad's shop in the 1970s, I did the alternator and stater rebuilds myself. I always trusted my rebuilds over the parts store rebuilds. When it was slow, I would go to the junk yard and pull a few cores so we had a stash of parts. Water pumps and fuel pumps were almost always new since it made little sense to install rebuilts. Now if you walk into a parts store and try to purchase starter brushes or a brush holder, they look at you like you are from a different planet.

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mr D says:

Tell us really how you feel…. lol =)

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars gunga din says:

You are a damn good auto electronics tech n mechanic. Someday you'll learn, OEM only or customer signs release authorising unreliable aftermarket parts. Learned my lesson the hard way. Cardone half shafts NEW. BROKE down 200 miles from home. Cost me $2000 by time on road again. Same crap on Honda 4 cyl interference motor. Used non OEM timing belt kit n water pump. 5000 m, Snap, Crackle, Pop
    NEVER AGAIN

Youll make more using OEM parts, spend less time putting them in. They fit n work, and far less fail No Worky Pissed off custommer hate calls n bad hateful word of mouth in small community

My brother went to AO to get rear bearings Several times for his Venture minivan. Couldn't get them to fit. Ends up whoever made them clocked the sensor plug in the wrong position. And these were new not remanufactured.
