In this video I have a look at a 2009 Kia Sedona that was brought in with a P0501. It didn't take long to find out that the ABS module was not communicating. Simple enough... bad fuse right. Why did the fuse blow? Great question. -Enjoy!

This type of scenario brought back a memory with a situation a customer had with a supposed noise. According to him ,,,,it only happened at a particular time, on a particular road, at a particular speed going across a drain at a certain angle. It takes all kinds and in such situations you can't please such customers or repair such problems.
The more I watch your videos, with the preponderance of datacom issues, the more I want to fix up an old car/truck from the sixties.
i think kia is putting too many do-dads in, faster than thier tech can handle.
Last time i had a problem like that I replace the ECM and it fixed all kinds of problems the car was having, even the transmission started shifting right, and misfires went away. Ac started working

I don't fix cars for a living, but I have done a bunch of automotive work on my own over the years. With fuse/junction blocks down by those passenger kick panel areas water can become an issue, either from the way the AC system drain is designed (sometimes they can get plugged with debris, then water starts back filling and flowing out, maybe it finds some wires to follow), or if there is an antenna on the passenger fender and someone was (as appeared to be the case on this Kia) was down there tinkering with wires they could have knocked that antenna grommet seal loose, or perhaps it's just dryrotted. Then water rides down the cable right into that fuse box and you have to get a new one because of corrosion all up in it. That is exactly what happened to my Jeep, there was NO grommet at all for the antenna (I'm sure there was at one point) and upon disassembling the fuse/junction block-box to see what all was going on I saw how they were built. I didn't have a single noticeable problem that led me to it, I just remember dealing with some fuses at one point and noting water on the cable (and I had noted water in the carpet at times), then going outside to see why that was and seeing a gaping 1" hole with a coax cable hanging loose in it. I had several codes and was trying to identify a transmission torque converter lockup issue that stopped working after I had a gigantic puddle on a rainy day. Three big wiring harnesses under the hood, one for the transmission, all had some corrosion but the one for the ECU with the TPS signal was absolutetly melted on a few pins and I had to get a replacement from the junk yard to fix it. The problem still exists to this day. I am wondering if a solenoid got burned up. I drove it for thousands of miles with no TCC lockup, even though I have no code for that being an issue.
So many can bus failures….bad ground? Or a short to ground?

You have to repair or replace the speed sensor. As you will not be able to talk to the ABS module… Fords are the same way…I seen people replace the ABS module. And still have the same problem..

Eric I have never seen you give up on an ELECTRIC problem I know this video is two years old I see that crap does underneath that Dash sing kind of crap icy out here on carsoda dealers in Southern California with devices like the karr device and other crap like the Rockledge device these are devices that are put on so vehicles cannot get stolen off of dealers lots and all they are is nothing but trouble and especially when the customer has to pay between $1,500 and $2,000 on these cars I would rip that thing out as soon as you possibly could and I think the problems will go away .
Thermal cycling’s on a fuse? 45 years of electrical design and troubleshooting, including industrial harvesting equipment, that a new one for me.
just keep replacing the fuse with the next size up until the problem is glowing…. It was probably an unmentioned accident when installing the aftermarket gear that was corrected after the fact….

I think it’s a wire somewhere on the body that is being cut on by a rusty body panel or the frame. Just must be hidden somewhere out of site maybe inside somewhere.
I’ve got a 96 convertible cavalier ls that I guarantee you couldn’t diagnose without throwing a ECU at it. Low voltage code for the crankshaft position sensor caused by a random ground wire that was shorting the number one coil, threw a ignition module at it and it is running fine now but it still has a low voltage code even with a new sending unit. Doesn’t appear to be wiring but I need a wiring diagram to confirm it’s not a wiring issue.
No one has been able to figure out if it’s the ECU or not that took damage spent 1100$ just to get no answers from two shops.
Another better late than never comment: I met a good friend of mines soon to be wife many years ago and I could tell right away she was definitely a keeper. She was smart, very independent, they both feed off each other's vibe, and she was a real looker and Bob was a geeky kind of guy. She loved him for who he was and nothing else. You can't fix what isn't broke.
Back in the days when cars had 2 to 4 fuses, & someone uprated the headlights then fuses would sometimes fail from thermal cycling after a few years having to carry their actual rated capacity repeatedly.
Nobody has built cars where fuses get loaded a high enough % of their rating for fuse aging to be an issue in over 40 years probably nearer 50. Car manufacturers don't push fuse ratings anymore, they create more circuits and add more fuses.
If the car is under 40 years old, has more than half a dozen fuses total, then any that blew there absolutely was a reason for it.

Sometimes you just have to say, sorry but it is going to take more time and cost you ( the customer) more that the vehicle is worth to fix. That is the best thing to do Eric!

Though not good for you, it gives context to those times when you just can’t find out why something happens. Had a car that randomly died on me, would crank but not start. Wait a few min’s and it would start and run as if nothing happened. I took it to a garage (under warranty) and the couldn’t recreate the fault, right up until they were backing it out of the bay, it died on them. 4 hours of investigation and swapping out ignition parts the fault was found. The remains of an after market alarm. A wire had been cut and spliced to an immobiliser using one of those horrible quick fix things, situated way under the dash behind the fuse board. 5 min’s later it was fixed with a bit of solder and heat shrink.
My take in that was to pay attention to when things have been added after market as you never know the quality of the product or the installer.
I once had a fuse pop for no reason on my bike. It was the coil/TCI feed. Swapped it for lighting fuse and kept going, never failed again. Someone may have popped a different fuse in the past and used the ABS fuse to fix lights or something and replaced it with a cheap ass fuse.

What’s up Mr. O?! I’ve been following you for about a month now.. I work at a Kia dealership and some of these Sedona vans have a recall to add a relay block to the inside of the junction box under the hood. The hecu modules on a lot of these kias tend to be problematic. It Does not appear to have the added relay block
Installed, but it wouldn’t hurt to have the customer give the dealership a call to confirm if this recall has been done or not. The recall doesn’t pertain to any of the codes that have been set but it’s just a thought that may help. Love your videos!

$10 says its something that has been installed by an individual. I have had my car for 8 years and not one issue because I don't modify my car at all …If I need power I run a new circuit off battery with fuse or relay depending on what it is.

Personally, I feel "unable to reproduce symptoms" as a legit time to bail. If it ain't broke, you can't fix it. The problem may have been caused by running through a deep puddle.
