In this video I have a look at a 2014 GMC Yukon that has a customer complaint of a low brake pedal. It doesn't take long to duplicate the customer complaint and find the cause. These systems work off from a vacuum pump and they are a pretty common failure item. -Enjoy!

Is there a vacuum pump delete that will allow you to tap into the intake manifold for vacuum ?
Change the oil an the brakes will work great for about 5000 miles… my 2015 does the same thing when the oil gets dirty… definitely a poor design by GM.
Cool table what is it?
Ma brake assist keep showing on screen plus the ebs and traction sign came .. for info I changed all the dram wheels and brakes pads and did new brake oil so any idea what's the problem and how to fix it ?
Soooo VAG concern is not the only one to overcomplicate things apparently…
I had this issue with my 2016 GMC Sierra and 25 Feb 21 took it to the dealer. GM replaced all parts under warranty at zero cost. It's not advertised but if you take it to the dealer my understanding is that this issue has an extended warranty for 10 yrs/150,000 miles.
Just delete the vacuum pump. Dont need it. Plug the holes and call it a day.
Great job
You don’t have to buy a new belt. You go from the top of the engine bay to do it don’t go from underneath. Electric ratchet and 13mm and some short extensions and put it in place and tighten the back 2 bolts to pull it tight. I’ve done a countless number of these pumps.
dealer change it for me for free
Did they not recall this??? I got a warranty recall for it?
My 2012 Altima locks up the front brakes, first the driver side starting smoking, then I stopped to let it cool, then started again to get it home. Right inside the garage with 2 feet of the car still outside I heard a thud on the passenger side and that side smoked. The car wouldn't move because the passenger side was completely locked. The abs light also turned on when the car was still moving. Do you think the check valve is the culprit or the brake hose on both sides are clogged? I did notice when replacing the driver side caliper that the fluid didn't drip much out of the hose. Haven't taken off the hose from the passenger side.
Just had this fixed in my 2015 Silverado and GM is now warrantying the new updated vacuum pumps out to 2025 or 125k miles. They were on backorder for a little while, but they're coming in again now. The recall is covering over 3.5 million GM trucks & SUV's.
Anyone hear of Chryslers having similar problems? I have a 2015 Chrysler 200c and have a hard locking pedal sporadically and it clicks when it happens!! Sometimes feels like my break pedals about to bust off lol
They do a recall now for that I just got a letter on the mail with a code to take it to a dealership they may see your video and hear your question
If it wasn’t for gmc there would be a lot less mechanics.
I know in my shop they are the bread and butter.
i install all new front suspension on a 94 chey trk 5.7 when i completed the job i took it for a drive now it will not turn all the way to the left maybe 1 turn before it hit the stop how can i fix this problem please help
There is a new recall that came out today I guess. They were making it seem like it needs to be reprogrammed. Not sure how true that it.
Another great product from Generic Motors
GM just finally issued a recall on the brake pumps on these vehicles.
I just picked up my 2016 Silverado 67000 miles vacuum pump issue fixed under 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Backing into a parking spot and hit brick wall. Pedal to the floor. Make the stealership fix it
I miss my 1996 yukon.
I have a 2017 Chevrolet, it’s at the dealership, for that same issue with the newer vacuum pump The thing is
(Sarcastically) Yeah, today's vehicles sure are more reliable and longer lasting than older ones. It's things like this that make me glad I don't own a newer car. Today's car buyers are essentially being used as guinea pigs. If I see one of these newer GM vehicles coming up behind me and it doesn't seem like they're gonna stop, I'll try to get out of the way.
Maybe if she learned how to stop correctly in the first place and didn't creep ahead she wouldn't have hit cars. This is one of the most annoying things when I'm driving, someone that can't properly judge the stop or is impatient and creeps ahead. At least once a day I'll be at a stop light and the person in front creeps so far ahead there's enough space for another car.
Get rid of all that "safety" crap like lane assist, backup cameras, and active braking and just learn how to drive your damned car.
What an awesome design improvement….
Its a 2014 and power brakes not working … GM.
Gm will always find a way to make money off people
The brakes don't work but at least the touchscreen does.
If the engineers thought its a good idea to have a pump to supply vacuum. Why not just have the pump pump hydraulics?
The Spanish meaning of GMC
G= GRANDE(BIG)
M=MALO(BAD)
C=CARO(EXPENSIVE)
lol. A friend's joke. Very true anyways.
I've been a professional wrench since 04 and I still learn so much from you Eric. I went into oilfield (Waukesha 9390ci engines and what not) and I'm amazed by what I miss out on in the auto field I left. Thank you sir, great video.
Factory GM cars are full of Chinese parts now. Even crucial parts like wheel bearings, etc..
I'M GOING TO HUG MY OLD BUICK NOW AFTER SEEING THIS
Too much . Maybe time for a carrier change? Iv'e been doing this stuff for to long. How long? Let's just say that when I started there were still points ignitions on the road. Might be time to retire? I can say "welcome to Wal Mart…lol
Eric, do you still have your Launch Diagun IV? How do you like it? I am trying to decide between that tool and the Autel MaxiCOM MK808TS… do you have any insight you can offer? This is for advanced DIY use. I personally own Ford, Buick, BMW, and Toyota… so it would certainly be used on a mix of cars. Family owns a number of GMs as well…
Buy a Toyota, problem solved.
IKR? SMDH, why the hell does GM always try to re-invent the wheel with a pump etc. instead of improving on already known reliable components!? So stupid! Should be several class action lawsuits against GM (Bad ignition switches, fuel and brake lines, spider injectors, window regulators, tailgate latches, wheel hubs, engines, transmissions etc., etc., etc.,) I could go on for days here! One of the reasons I love the old 71 Firebirds I have, easy to diagnose and repair! Also my 05 Avalanche will get engine and transmission replacements until I die, as long as I stay in the South they'll last a long time. And don't get me started on the 97 Olds Bravada POS my wife gave me! LOL
People ask why I dont like GM. Because they do stuff like this…
Ford, and FCA are competing with each other. GM is like the slow kid on the block trying to hang out with the cool kids.. If not for fanboys, and China GM would already be in chapter 11 again.. Chrysler did a complete 180, GM could learn a lot from FCA.. Cater to Americans, not your Chinese market..
Any way to convert the brake booster system to the old style engine vacuum design?
Good luck finding a pump. National backorder. 😉
Eric O in your swag coffe cup or hoodie that saids Theres your problem lady.
And that's why my love for GM ends at MY2007.
happy new year S.M.A ….good lord gm what have ye wrought to hades with ya………
Stretch fit belt? Meaning no tensioner? Just pull it over the pulley? Never seen one is it a newer thing ?
I will keep my Toyota Tundra!!
Um, you dont really have to cut off the belt… the tools work pretty well for removal… and I've found that belts are re usable when removed using the proper tool… even though it is not recommended.
Design featuer breaks are for pusies
My 2015 Yukon XL has same problem
