In a recent video https://youtu.be/YE3kcGAXqJE I diagnosed a GMC Yukon for having a hard brake pedal making it very difficult for the owner to stop the car and actually causing her to hit a few other vehicles. In this video we confirm the diagnosis and repair. -Enjoy!

hey was that yukon 4×4??? my 17 sierra is 4×4 and back bolts are hard to get does removing steering shaft give me room for back bolts ?
Does anyone know of a vacuum pump delete, to run vacuum off the intake manifold to never have to worry about this ever again ?
This was a worthless video with showing how to do it!
I've worked for a Chevrolet dealer for ten years and changed an ungodly amount of those vacuum pumps. They are one of the dumbest designs I've ever seen. If you own a 14-18 GM truck or suv, you should delete the vacuum pump entirely.
Do we have reprogram anything? Like a sensor after replacing it?
they make a pump delete kit. you have to first reprogram the pcm to for the V4 crap and make it stay in v8 mode, and then the kit has 2 threaded plugs to cap off where the oil comes into the pump. then you just take some 3/8 fuel injection hose or some type 3/8 hose that won't collapse under vacuum and it hooks to the manifold via the pcv fitting. Badaboom.
It normally takes a few deaths and the media picking up on them and the design flaw for a recall. GM doesn't care because it's not costing them money in court costs.
how long should this Pump LAST ???
now GM PUT ELECTRIC POWER MASTER CYLINDER with ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKES !!!!!!!!!
Wow – and I had always wanted one of those big clumsy Yukons. I wonder if her insurance took a hit because of all the rear-enders….or how many little kids nearly got “Yukoned”.
…as you say Eric, I guess brakes are optional when you’re out “finding new roads”.
Hopefully the NEW ELECTRIC ZF (IBC) POWER BRAKES will Solve this PROBLEM !!!!!!!
The Chevy dealer over here has put 10 vacuum pumps and brake boosters in my dads suburban the booster squeals and leaks air in one time the pump locked up the other times the pumps were knocking it’s a bs system when all they coulda done was get vacuum from the manifold
Great video on the (GM Recall about the air pump failure), have you done any other GM trucks, or SUV's produced after the 2014 year models, let me be more specific, anything regarding the 5.3/6.2 Ecotec engines having a rough idle, or engine shutter in "drive" mode and stopped for a red light or stop sign and sitting for more than 30 seconds? GM issued a bulletin about this occurrence, and recommend a shim be applied to the Motor mounts, or replaced if the vibrations continue to occur. I would love to see you do a video about this issue, and see how you would diagnose and fix the problem. Thanks in advance….
DAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just Sold my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan Se ( upgraded the Brakes to 2015 HD Brakes- 2 Piston Calipers ) – No Real Issues except for AGE
now just Picked up a 2017 TAHOE LS – and have to Deal with Recal BS with a Vacuum Pump
WTF — GM
Hi, thanks for the video. When you removed the steering shaft did you remove it from the steering box and the intermediate shaft?
FYI: stealership fixing my vacuum pump today under powertrain warranty. 2016 Silverado with 67000 miles. Special exception, normally not covered by powertrain but they see the class action law suit building.
Shity pump I've replaced several on gmc's
Good stuff man….exactly my problem been looking for info on repairing myself thanks!!! Hoping it gets recalled soon!
Did one of these today, removing the steering shaft made all the difference. Thanks for the tip! I also had the LF wheel well apart (did the washer pump too) some good camera angles with that out of the way.
Soooo, now has electric power steering and belt driven vacuum pump??? Wow GM engineers really thought this through didn't they? 🤔
I have a 2017 Chevy 1500 with the newer vacuum pump,it’s at the dealership with the same issue the thing is That it only has 3800 miles on it, and the dam thing is leaking oil too from the wheel gasket ,still under warranty
I remember fixing vacuum pumps on ford diesel back in the late 90s. Just think most of them were converted to mini buses. There never were any recalls.
Great video! > 250k subscribers, Nice job Eric O!!! Hopefully you guys did something nice to celebrate clearing a QUARTER OF A MILLION viewers. So freaking cool. Keep up the great work.
Well the good news is we saved a 1/10 of a gallon of gas because of this new fuel management system! The bad news is we smashed up grannies Cadillac because we didn’t have any brake assist on our 4 year old vehicle….
Yup, issue with all 5.3 GDI engines years 2014 to 2018, I've change several per month take off the backing plate you will see what the failure is….
Great recap Eric O
👍
eric did you happen to check booster for brake fluid leaking from the master . seen this many times . use the dip stick method also adds to slow recovery
What would people now a days do if they were back in the 60s and 70s when they had no power brakes shit I'm still driving around in a truck that didn't even come with power anything, that's how you test your skills right there slick
Lol pictures speak more then words lmao that's funniest one so far. Good job Eric always enjoy your videos
300psi on the brakes when not stepping on pedal? sounds like an issue with the booster valving or something, but maybe side effect of ABS system.
Thank You for the follow up. Merry New Year
Interesting… Good Job !
Thank you for posting the follow up!
At a glance, the belt doesn’t look as it has a belt tensioner, so how do you install the belt?
So… on my Chevy volt, they use electric over hydraulic brakes, and it's a $24,000 car after rebates. A mid level yukon is around $60,000. Come on G.M. brakes are kinda important, even after the warranty runs out.
Every time I put a scope on a gm ,the only code it gives me is LOL.
Another good follow up thanks for your time and effort. Stay warm ❤️
I have the same tahoe 2009 engineer diagnosis as vacume don't know the vacuum or the bosster sensor could be
A very good way to get people killed!!! WTF was GM thinking here??
The ol' hydroboost system worked better and lasts a heck of a lot longer than these GM vac pumps, for certain.
We have had a good number of emails in regards to this problem.
I didn't even know it was possible for the brake pedal to get hard after "pumping" it while the engine is running.
Did we just get the old "one thing led to another" video ?
Does it make a difference if you disable AFM?
Vacuum for the brakes? Well there’s your problem lady! oh and btw Eric O the south main auto tag in the left bottom says south mian auto… lol
Say Eric. I have a 08 toyota 4 runner SR5. That I'm working on. But need a wiring diagram for the 4 wheel drive /front Actuator. Any chance you can tell me how I can get one on the cheap. Or were you go fof the ones used by YOU. I will watch the. W.U.W. on 1/9/:19.
