2002 dash clusters on toyotas don't have leds there all holagen bulbs still back then @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Early 2002 Rav 4 seems to be running smooth Hmm 🤔 at the beginning of the video
Someone is driving that car hard,as it was built for.
You should at least be able to charge for one hours work to give an opinion, as accounts and lawyers charge as soon as you walk into the office!😆😆😆🇦🇺
In Germany we use the w rated speed
If you take the little cap off the end of the filter cap the torque is stamped in there IIRC. No it’s not a lot.
I like watching your channel and Eric O's channel you two are great to watch it helps with learning how to repair many vehicles. A shout out to both you and Eric O.
Yes peoples own ideas can be stronger than facts and common sense. Imagine their state of mind. Chuckle 😉 say no more!!!
Whats wrong with the last car. Needs wheel alignment and rotation, nothing is wrong. Thats that
Great video but I do think you maybe left out the most obvious answer, tyre under inflation, I know they look ok now but it could be they actually put a gauge on them prior to visiting you, these low pressure warning indicators have made people lazy and tend to rely on them rather than physically checking, that can lead to a false positive. Really enjoy the channel.
All those chemicals sprayed 🤮
Should it be a completely new if you have changed some parts ,isn’t that how it works?
I own a 2010 E350 mercedes-Benz W212 series and i got 75,000 miles on my tires. Improper air inflation and wrong tyre specs for this Vehicle or SUMMER Tires? These cars will eat certain brand Summer tires. Lucky to get 30,000 miles on them especially in a hot climate.
Wtf was that lagg on the yota? Limp mode??
Tire wear on the outside used to mean under inflation… Wear in the middle over inflation both will cause rapid tire wear.
See Ray, they got tired of you cutting through the parking lot and put that can in your way.
Here in Germany that car would not leave the shop without changing the tires. Unless on a towtruck. Simply because it is by law not roadworthy and not allowed on the road anymore. If you would give it back in that condition and something would happen with that car you as workshop would be held responsible.
You got me!!!
My Mercedes recommends 28psi on the front and 32 psi on the rear. That in it self causes excessive tire wear.
You depending on the tpms for the correct tire pressure will bite you in the ass every time…abnormal tire wear = putting a pressure gauge on them to rule out equal but low pressure
Where's your tire pressure gauge? those tires wearing on the edges points to under pressure running
The merc driver wonders why hard driving is wearing out his tyres LOL I would have told him to improve his driving habits
Man, I feel sorry for what happened with the Benz owner. Person didn't realize that the only problem with their car was them! Classic case of under-rotation / running on low pressure. Those tires were probably rotated twice in their lives and only inflated at every oil change (if that!)
To your point though, even if they DIDN'T neglect their tires, they would be lucky to have gotten another 10k out of them, let alone 40. Treadwear warranties are an industry wide joke and I have no clue how tire makers get away with what they imply by advertising such ridiculous numbers. No tire is gonna last 70k miles without cords showing, and if someone ever proves me wrong I will gladly eat my dinner off the tires that do (right after I buy a set for myself!) I honestly hope they call up Yokohama for a warranty claim just so Yokohama can tell them what you and every other mechanic that looks at those tires already knows (fun fact, if you don't rotate your tires on time and check their pressure frequently, what little treadwear warranty they DO give you goes out the window lol).
Anyway, long comment is long, but I hope your next day goes better! I still enjoyed this one! Keep it up!
LOL My eyes bugged out when you just shoved the dipstick down and hopped into the car to start it!
Won't the filter last longer if you leave the plastic on?🙂
People are strange they want what they want to hear no way what your telling them it is possible tires wear out as they heard somewhere that they never wear out or parts do not just break from age from driving the car ,it is the same in every field of work your just trying to sale they something they feel that do not need.
Did you check the air pressure? You dint? It was too low and I don't care what the recommended is.
Keurig sucks. They barely put any coffee in those overpriced k-cups.
Tire rotation every 5k miles with the oil change. Simple schedule and they'll last to or above the mile warranty.
Does that merc need w rated tires, Yoko tires doesn't seem OE, they could be the wrong tires.
Could also be occasionally under inflated.
Yup. You got me Ray. Well played, sir.
I know a lot about tire wear but you just taught me a great deal more & how to better understand what I'm looking for when purchasing them. Of course my cousin owns a tire shop so I get a discount… he does question my driving pattern to better assess the tires for me then he'll give me 3 price points to choose from… I usually go for the middle. When he did my daughter's suv he did the same for her but when he found out she was driving over an hr to visit her bf every week & back he didn't give her much choice; he gave her the 1s that he'd put on his daughter's car if she was the 1 driving to where my daughter was weekly & he didn't charge her but $10 more per tire. We get at cost price vs retail & we don't have to pay to put them on or balancing… he saves us a great deal of $; even when we try to pay him for other services he refuses, like if he does a plug or changes the oil etc.
And underinflation maybe on the Mercedes? For sure what you described is accurate, but it looks the same as underinflation too.
Love your work. Love your videos. Can I suggest one other significant contributor to the tyre wear on the Mercedes, under inflation will wear the outside edges before the center. More air in the fronts would have increased their life in my opinion.
That takes 6.4 quarts with a filter change…
It doesn’t go vroom I died
can't change anybody's mind that is not willing to listen and change
I would complain too if I had to drive around in a rav 4 with 200k miles.
Heavy vehicle + soft compound tires + an aggressive driving style = frequent trips to the tire store.
Totally agree with your summation of the tire wear on the Benz Ray, soft compound and spirited driving explains the premature wear. Maybe if he slowed down when cornering, and didn't turn the wheel while stationary his tires would last longer. Turning the wheel once moving removes load and decreases wear.
Can't please everyone
Why did canister oil filters return? They were a PIA in the 50's cars. Good vid thanks
As far as tires go have a lady that goes to our shop that religiously gets her tires rotated and it shows. She been running the goodyear weatherready and been getting 70 to 80 k miles per set. Its normally rated at 60k. She put 65k miles on it last year and needs tires again. They do alot of uber and stuff and put tons of miles on thier car.
I learned from installing batteries in older Toyotas that they tend to run alil rough for a few dozen miles and then it returns back to normal. That may be some of the rough running they feel
Just a guy that burns through a lot of tires here. My understanding of that wear is low pressure.
Also: treadwear numbers are only useful for comparing numbers from the same manufacturer reference tire is 100, but plenty of fudge room. Traction AA is the highest, it's based on a locked tire on wet surface. Temperature A also the highest rating.
also could be a tire infation issue if they are under inflated the outside would wear "excessively"
So much brake cleaner reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee LOL
My wife's 2004 Rav4 ran horribly after the battery was disconnected or replaced. The idle trims were all screwed up and for the first couple of restarts I'd have to keep my foot on the gas when stopping or it would stall. It would start running perfectly after a couple of drive cycles.
That brake cleaner music is copyright infringement Ray 👀😂
The fact that you and Mr O are routinely highlighting each other is amazing Ray!!!! Two of my favorite mechanics on Youtube!!!
Did you forget the o ring on the bottom of the filter cap? It’s the one you remove so you drain the housing and don’t make a mess.
Never understood why people mispronounce "odeometer"
I'm just going to echo previous sentiments. Dealing with customers who may not really want to fix anything is part of the job. Seeing how you handle that is just as important as seeing how you turn wrenches. Video gets a thumbs up from me.
PS – Quite diplomatic on the tires there. When you drive your car like a maniac and don't keep your tires inflated, they wear out early. They may have been properly inflated when you saw them, but have they really been properly inflated for the last 10,000 miles? Can't prove it, but I suspect not.
Is the special tool really required for that Lexus filter when it appears to have a 1/2 inch drive fitting on the base?
Very informative tire video Ray. Thanks for all the info.
LOL!
As to the Merc driver.
Wealthy entitled people don't like to be called out for their ignorance…
Luxury cars are heavy, and will chew up a set of tires in a hurry, especially if not rotated regularly.
why not and wait till all of the oil drains out of the pan?
On your oil joke, Back in my young days, I had a 68 Chevelle SS 396 that we had installed an engine in. Well just as we got the headers bolted up we were like, Ok lets hear how it sounds. Guess what we forgot to install, OIL. Man it sounded so good till that pesky squeak!!! Heart sinks to the floor, and reverse install all the work and go find another engine. Lesson learned 🙂
in a honda after a battery change, the computer will run in default mode with bunch of lights turn on and you will to drive a few miles to get the computer back into normal mode and turn off the lights….so it could be that just need to run the car a few minutes so it collect enough data to pass all the testing.
Ya'll have just too much fun!!! Thanks for sharing.
my heart beat went off the chart. DON"T DO THAT TO A OLD MAN.
Coffee is for transfusion not hydration.
🤔 declined! People will "cheap" themselves broke.. At least you had more fun than the '82 Chevy 350 distributor that I had to tear apart today…Owner was shocked when it fired right up!
Finally credit to Eric !
I went through a set of Pirelli Scorpions in a year on Mazda.
Everyone knows that disabling the MIL fixes all problems with the car.
The Australian Holden wore the out side of the tryers out really quick if you drove around a lot of roundabouts as they bulldozed around corners from their steering design of the front end , when you turned around on grass it would destroy the lawn .
Terry tate says you kill the Joe you make some mo! Don't leave the pot empty people.
What gasket scraper do you use? I have been using a razor blade and its time to upgrade. I remember you using a scraper with some sort of aluminum or carbide edge that worked really well and am interested in getting the same one.
Isn't wear along the edges indicative of under inflated tyres?
is the 3.89 charge for the break clean buried in the charge.?
I wouldnt take my car to you if my life depended on it
Those ravs are so top heavy
But did you replace the drain plug OEM blue crush washer that’s where I got worried haha! Great video as always Ray killing it!
New Battery have to wait until system relearns engine
People in general have a bad perception when I comes to tire ware and # of miles said tire company says the tire will ware too there are alot of different factors they don't see or understand how hard you drive through corners how hard you accelerate how hard you decelerate do you have any worn steering components good video Ray keep up the good and honest work you do
Awesome video 👍
My first though was either the ECU or the TCU was still learning. The key/drive cycles completed along with the readiness check
W speed rated tires wear quickly. On the Mustang I used to own I was lucky to get 30,000 miles out of a set. Higher speed rating= softer compounds for more grip.
That oil u use at the shop any good or is it the cheap stuff
What are you talking about, a double A traction is considered excellent and a temperature is considered very good, why would you say mediocre that was absolutely ridiculous
I love it please continue to keep it up
My Tesla Model S tires wear a bit fast but I blame that on the negative camber and the fact I like to accelerate hard. Tires, like brakes, are also something I don't mess around with due to the safety implications.
Wear on the outside edges like that is typical of running them at too low pressure, as well. Too high a pressure & the tyre wears out in the middle.
On the other hand, that camber and hard cornering could also do it.
Never makes sense why someone thinks that there is something wrong when they neglect to rotate the tires. My father in-law is that way and I inspect the truck find nothing but he swears there is something wrong, and it's just lack of him not rotating his tires or doing maintenance to his vehicle
Hey Ray, as always, love your content! Typical Eurotrash driver, lead foot, lack of rotation, underinflated tires. Surely it must be "The Car's Fault"! I bet the turn signal indicator has "cob webs" on it.
Why didn't you check the air pressure?
All four tyres wearing on the edge means low pressure, it'd be a huge coincidence for all four to be worn on both edges from a wheel alignment issue.
Most wear seatbelt
First time I've seen you have caffeinated intrusion into the in cardiovascular system
Nice shout out to SMA/thanks for your time and entertainment.
I always thought that wear on the outsides of the tread while not as much wear in the center, indicated tire underinflation. Those tires didn't look underinflated now, but I do wonder if they might have been to give a "nice soft ride" in the past.
On the car that "ran rough", there was a whole lot of rumbling at the start of the test drive. I guess it was wind, but it made me wonder if there were bearing problems or brake problems, resulting in rough driving.
Excellent commentary on tires and tire wear!!
I liked this video because I gained knowledge about tires that I didn't know before. Sometimes just imparting a bit of info to your viewers is all that's needed for a video.
2 Hail Marry Sir
Tire pressure is about 5psi too low for the way the car is driven.
