In this video I bring you through the process I use to replace exhaust manifolds on a Chevy 2500HD with the big 6.0. This is a pretty common job in our shop and is pretty much the same process for all GMC, Chevrolet trucks with V-8 LS engines. Broken bolts can be recessed or protruding and both are relatively easy to get out if you have the proper tools. come along as I get started on the passenger side fist. -Enjoy!

    I've never had any luck with broken bolt extractors mostly because I can't drill straight to save my ass. Always go straight to the welder. works every time.

    Just installed a new manifold on my 2001 Corvette…luckily didn’t break any bolts on removal and then used a tap to clean out the threads and then screwed in 2 dowels a few threads on either end to hold the manifold up in place…easy peezy !!

Oh by the way I learned something today about the 5.3 and it’s computers crap. Today I pulled the number one plug to see if they needed to be replaced and I discovered that this truck had the wrong plugs in it plus the iridium tips were burned completely off so not having any I put it back in and put up tools shut the hood and got in the truck and started it up and 💥 bam now I have a cotton picking mis fire code just for looking at the spark plug so not owning a scanner I had to drive 11 miles to a friends shop to clear the dang code. How crazy is that. Plus I’m possibly facing back surgery and leaning over in the truck pulling on the ratchet my back is really let me have it now and with my back and knee problems I can’t hardly work on my vehicle anymore and I’m only 73 but already having one back surgery I am now limited to what I can do anymore. The car are becoming more aggravating to work on nowadays and always had hot rods and truck and cars when I was younger and a mechanic most of my life. But those days are gone and I had to ask my friend who has his own shop now to stick a set of plugs in for me and it’s depressing to know that you can’t do those easy things anymore. I guess those time come huh….

    I have 2010 express van drivers side rear spark plug came out when I was driving near the city of Buffalo all good put it in the next time about a month latter on the thurway coming back from Rochester. Out it comes in a pouring rain storm again not happy pull off the side of the road put the fu ker in again get back in the trucks
    Soaking wet thankful no one hit the crappie chey when I was under it next day tell the boss about the used truck he owns he said locktite the plug in I took the plug out to see the thread oblong like a foot ball not sure what happened but it a game changer for me I put 35000 miles on this truck never seen it as bad as this it will be getting a new head soon but in the meantime red rtv seems to hold and the misfire gone.
