In a previous video https://youtu.be/s8HuR6Rbrf0 I started to have a look at a Chevy Express van that came in with no low beams. A few checks of the systems we narrowed it down pretty quick. Not the relay, fuse, bulbs, switch or the BCM. It has to be corrosion or a broken wire. Now it's time to hunt. -Enjoy!

Thanks just bought a used 97 1500 express doesn't have headlights or turn signals also brakes are squishy so I have a rabbit whole to go down but should be a good van after I fix this stuff.
You never cease to amaze me.
I'm in Boise Idaho,
I've taken my truck to 5 different shops
Luckily for me. NO ONE charged me for a small test drive in their parking lot or just down the street and back. I've gotten 4 different answers. Lol. 2004 CHEVY 2500HD. IF A MECHANIC READING THIS POST. I'LL STATE THE PROBLEM.
great commentary my friend. I just purchased one of these except I don't have high or low beam. Hopefully it's just the bulbs. well see. I legit got it in the past week. so far needs brake lines too
All those chevy van truck have cheap seal bean connector after many years Connector get corroded and head light start failure that was my case till a replaced plug for newer and seal
Soaking crusty connectors in CLR removes most of the corrosion. Power disconnected; you can soak the whole connection in a Ziploc baggie submerging the pins 15-30min. Doesn't hurt the plastic or the wire shielding.
Great vid. Got no lows or drl. Only hi beams. Driving me nutts !
I have this problem. Thinking about clipping the high beam wire and rerouting it to the low beam wire just before the headlight. Can anyone think of a bad consequence from that?
You are awesome
Thanks. Very helpful
Great two part video of trouble shooting a low beam headlight issue but do you have a breaking point like the rest of us humans ? could you just throw a tool or something once in a while and make me feel a little better Lol, all kidding aside your a great mechanic, love all the videos.
Good video. I have a 2011 3500 with left low beam problem. Where can I get the wiring diagrams from. Thanks
Love every video, and the logical process. Been improving my diagnostic technique thanks to this man.
I'm not a mechanic just a guy who likes to work on my own cars for hobby I have same problem with 98 dose a 98 have BCM I could use a little help
Great video! My thought. What if you would have put a dvom, black lead on battery ground, and red lead on the relay base "control side" ground "terminal "86" if terminal 85 was hot" "key on" wouldn't you get a non-zero reading, meaning resistance on the ground side? Also Mrs. O is too cute. 🙂
Yeah that was very good job seem long to fine the issue great work 👍 👏 my question chev uplander 08 underneath the driver seat is block connection plug at the top and plug the bottom . Who knows
Impressive team works with a supreme common sense with a 1000 percent accuracy to the bottom of issue. All have the best days ever. thank you
Well done good video, thanks
Great detective work.
So, did this wire fix it? Is there a part 3?
Thank you so much for this video I literally couldn’t figure it out and sure enough my wire looked exactly like that one and now it works you have saved me so much time and money thank you 🙏
I'm here to see Mrs. O! She's a peach, you lucky dog!
Eric the great
Nice work on another crusty vehicle. You and I have a lot in common. We both married up.
My kia has that problem had it fixed twice stiil doesnt work
For that connector, you could go to a wrecker and get a unit complete with the wires coming out of that lower section. Use one of the good ones. Save the rest for the future.
Time to buy a new van.
Salt is good shit. Gets everywhere and causes corrosion.
Eric O I’m VERY proud of youse. 🤓. You do a GREAT job 👏
Got the exact same problem with my 2003 Chevy express 2500. Nothing wrong with the fuses. New relays. Jumped from a key switch hot wire and they work fine, but not as they're supposed to without the jump wire. Thanks for the heads up.
Hopefully the guy doesn't watch your videos calling his van piece of crap
I always stay for the end, you've got the best two ending lines on YT.
Thats good mechanics are worth every penny
In the words of Red Green 'if the Ladies don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy'.
Great job on Chevy lights
Chevy fuse boxes are alot of problems with pin erosion
Thank u
Thanks Eric O! Great troubleshooting!
Now was there a missing fuse that was wired? Might have been able to hack an unused terminal and wire?
OMG the corrosion factor there should condemn a Vehical after 5 years max. The manuf and dealers should be so proud.
Do they pay the state??
That corroded fuse panel is just the beginning, the owner should just take the hit and head to the auto graveyard.
As always very informative.
"Does it have to smell like this?" Cluing the audience into the complete reality of the situation.
Is there a spare(unused) connection pin in the fuse block in that you can use to replace the affected terminal with the “new” one?
I wish I had the patience you have sir I tried diagnosing my Chrysler Sebring for a broken wire in the TCM harness for a week drove me absolutely crazy and told my wife well babe there our problem I'm not good at wire chasing sent it to the mechanic he still has the car a month later lol dang Chryslers
Eric is a "water walker" and family is terrific. I'm working closely with my grandson, who is beginning to talk. I want his first sentence to be, "There's your problem lady!" I'm sure that will be appreciated by his mother and day care teachers (or perhaps not). Randy
MANY years ago I repaired comm and crypto gear for the US Navy. Your methodology in finding and fixing problems brings me back to those days in uniform. Keep up the good work.
Eric O. is the best teacher I have found on the you tubes. I have learned so much and still learning!
Thank you for this step by step!!!
I wish people would take more of an interest in their cars than just its looks. They just learn to drive them, wash them every once in a while, if that, and the rest is left to whatever mechanic is fortunate enough to get their business. A car is a big investment not to mention it caries you and family from point A to point B. It behooves you to learn the basics in keeping it running not to mention safe. Stay frosty out there folks!
Eric you are truly blessed brother! Take care of that family of yours. They are the only ones to be there for you long after you have retired.
Your real close to where I live , great channel too
I have a giant spaghetti ball of old wiring harnesses on my shelf for just such an occasion, the wire colors may not always match but I usually have what I need to repair a corroded pin inside any connector. I would have followed your procedure exactly in the beginning but I would have gone under the fuse box much sooner just due to speculation. If she's got green fuzz spilling out the top you know she's got it spilling out the bottom so beware.
Learned a lot again….
