Today I have a look at a Jeep Wrangler that has the same O2 heater issues that we had in another Jeep a few years back https://youtu.be/XFX-c7Nanv4. Bad grounds are pretty common but remember to not to jump to conclusions and always test first! -Enjoy!

so you can't get an inspection sticker in New York with codes on the vehicle
Iโm amazed at the ground system used in automobile design. It sucks in every car/truck Iโve ever looked at, with Chrysler sucking more then most. Iโm an electronic engineer now specializing in vacuum tube based home and recording studio audio equipment. I would NEVER use the chassis for the ground return! Even in the dry, climate controlled environment that the equipment I design & build is used in using the chassis for the ground return is poor design. You can pick any two points on an amplifier etc chassis and there is resistance between them. Di Minimus, but itโs there. this can lead to ground loops which can cause noise and hum on the signal. Proper design calls for a heavy gauge ground bus or a star ground technique to ensure that all ground returns are at the same potential. Typically the ground buses or stars are just inches long but are still required. Contrast this to a car where the ground returns are often feet apart and returned through the body or chassis. Add this the oxidation that will always occur at the ground (and other) connections and you have a recipe for failure, sooner or later. Iโm sure the design justification is to minimize cost and weight, but Iโm sure that long term reliability would be greatly enhanced by using a ground bus or star ground return design.
My Cherokee greatly benefitted from firing up the Dremel tool and getting to as many ground points as I was able to reach. It even made the headlights a little brighter.
I appreciate your videos and yes I have a 2006 Jeep commander deep ,but with your help and YouTube Hey I do believe I'm going to conquer it
Wish the stealership stopped and asked someone lol, that's what I thought I was doing when I sent a car to them, few thousand later and who knows how many parts they fixed a broken wire that costs $1.00
My neighbor currently "can you replace all 4 speakers in my wife's car" me: "uhh what's wrong with them they're blown out?" Him: "oh idk they all don't work, someone said they're getting power to them though" me: ๐คฆ
VW products suffer a lot from bad grounds and rusty bolts!
Absolutely appalling work from the other garage.
You have a better chance of hitting the lottery then all 4 o2 sensors going bad
Parts cannon
Today question chev uplander 08
All dashboard light coming on I clean ground the at the block battery area . Traction abs back on after a week . I look at wires under driver seat look good . Voltage 14.4 / 13.8 / 12.8 I'm not sure what next .evap on passenger seatbelt light . Any more ground problems or Voltage issues??
I wonder what happens if the owner of the vehicle sees this video and it turns out that the shop he took it to didn't tell him what was really wrong with his truck? I know I'd be a little upset
Does the customer know it was sent to your shop and fixed easily?
If your professional local area shop technicians cant do it, what makes you think I can?
Actually surprised they didn't change the throttle body as well. More than likely tired from changing all the O2's and EGR valve.
The chances of 21 codes are none to none right away computer data or ground only makes sense.
Grounds, grounds, grounds!
OR, Fuses, Fuses, Fuses!
North East Grounds! Salt +sand+ water = LOTS OF CORROSION! ! !
I wonder what the probability is of the original shop paying you and not charging the customer for your repair. My area is home repair, not auto repair, but I would not be comfortable charging someone for swapping all of those parts and charging for the ground repair on top of everything.
I wish I could fly you to Minnesota to fix our 2011 Jeep Liberty with the crazy christmas tree dash lights! I'm going to search for the TIPM grounds and see if they are green or not. YOU ROCK!!!!
Ahhh the good olโ dartboard approach.
Whoever replaced all those oxygen sensors should know better. That many codes set at one time will usually point to a common problem. I would like to know how does a customer handle the first shop's failed repair? They are not going to put back the old oxygen sensors, they will still have to be paid for labor, so who is going to eat this one? Lay it on me shop owners!!!
I've heard of a Ford with a CVT that wouldn't shift right – sure nuff, bad ground
Good one!
Another job well done you've had quite few of those crappy grounds and oddly all on jeeps
I'm a mechanic, and I'm learning so much from your videos ๐น.
HELLO ERIC DO YOU HAVE ANY VIDEOS FOR A 2008 F150 P0340 AND P0344 CODES
It really helps when bad connections turn green.๐
Now wondering if the red varnish battery spray would help keep it dry.
fine job. really nice connections that you. made
These best mechanic on YouTube and has best videos
All that cash spent on part swaps could have repaired the major oil leak. Stop letting shops swap parts!
Eric you are always grounded in your good work! I watch another great Eric auto mechanic on You Tube- Advanced Level Automotive. Between the two Erics, I get great information and entertainment!
love your site. I got a lot of friends hooked on your videos. Would love to see a 1 liner greatest hits video. Red Green show watch your back Dr. O is coming for you.
What light are you using, please.
Good job
Eric your the man good job ๐
I didn't know aftermarket shops could use witech.
JEEP…..phew….never again….the sensors, one after another, still the engine light came on…then that list went to differing parts and areas, the costs kept going up…08 Safari//3.8…think folks before you buy one of that era.I truly hope Eric has sourced the problem, as his methodical ways are to be commended. It just gives me shivers when the word JEEP is on the video…..
Like the noodle comment
Reload the parts cannon and get ready for the next one!
I had a shop try that on me once…. They changed all these "broken" parts, which to me just didnt add up…. so when went and picked up my vehicle. I asked for all the parts they "replaced" afterall I paid for them, they are mine not the shops ( by the way they were not happy about this but I did not care, my vehicle my parts ). I then took those "broken" parts to another two shops and asked them to check them….. both said they are fine except for one component ( which was the controller of the others i found out )…… I went back and gave them a choice… reduce the bill for those replaced parts which were not needed, change those parts back with the originals which were fine and only charge me for the one part with a reduction in labor costs to account for it…. or I take it further. they reduced the bill…….and to this day have never stepped back into that shop. So yes they may have made the money initially and even if didnt check it and had worn that bill… You may get the money originally but is not a good way to keep customers….For a business to succeed it must keep its customers and get them coming back time and again….. A loyal customer is worth 10 or more casual customers not just in the work but more importantly in word of mouth as they will tell others… Best advertisement a business could ever have. As the saying goes. A good reputation is beneficial but easily lost. A bad reputation once gained always retained.
Sounds like my 2003 GC WJ Overland model.. Years of Ohio salts made ground issues a never-ending adventure into ground wires until I finally broke down and tracked down all of them and even made new ones. Great SUV except for being so needy.
Where are you located at?
Just Subbed and rang the bell, nice channel … Bad grounds … something I always check … got a rebuilt Bosch starter years ago for my cherry, rust free 1980 Fiat Spider, got lucky and it fixed a whole host of electrical issues (living at the beach turns everything green) leave it to the Germans, inside the rebuild box was a few dozen pages of technical stuff, and dozens of tips (musts) on checking correct ground on all electrical stuff … with graphs and everything …. and this was a non ECU car … it also showed how faulty ground stress out the rest of the system causing premature failure of alternator/battery, etc … that was 20 years ago and I'm now a fanatic about my engine, battery and other electrical grounds … all squeaky clean and sealed from corrosion … living in PA now, no shortage of salt used here and every auto over 10 years old is a rust bucket … my 2000 Jeep Cherokee looks brand new, and drives like it too
What shop would replace 4 o2 and an egr thinking they were all bad??
This is in my wheelhouse. I get called to crushers, screens, generators, etc, and they usually have new aftermarket parts installed. Yup. Bad connection. Thatโll be $400, sir. Have a nice day.
21 codes…typical fiat
Is that a dentist at work in the background??
You said it the other shop made a lot more than you think about it
