I was really hoping for something a little more challenging but this one was pretty easy. Already had the camera rolling so I decided to put the video out even though it was just a coil. -Enjoy!

Lots of help on different vehicle! Thanks man!
Great video but it hurt my soul watching that car quest coil pack be installed denso all the way .
Thanks man, very informative and easy to follow. Like how you work on the truck like a common joe.
Got the exact same truck and swapped a coil in the fall. Started to get misfires on the #4 a couple weeks ago and immediately thought, well, there goes another coil- truck has 480 000 km on it, so not real surprising. Stuck the new coil in it, fired it up, still got the misfire. Since I had an extra set of wires from a scrapper, I just replaced the #4 wire, and boom, no misfire.
I guess I should just check the easy fix first. But at least now I got a spare coil in the scrapper box.
Great showing very helpful 👍👍
are u located in Alberta?
Good Job. Thanks for all you do, Eric.
As an Engineer who spent years fixing and modifying Radios & Radars across Europe and the USA, I turned sales & marketer of high-end Test Equipment … I too "Almost failed High School". Now, having sorta-mastered a number of things, including Electronics & (of all things) Linguistics, allow me to say that even your "simple" fixes are helpful for us would-be DIYers. e.g. we get to see where things are and how you take them apart. Even your "Syntax" is helpful; it cements things into our memory banks. e.g. "Alright; we do have no spark" (as in: "Yes we have no bananas". ) I mean would could forget the absence of Spark? 😇
Warm Regards to all,
John in the NW
Not sure what coil is no explanation given. Assuming it’s something to do with spark plug. But video didn’t say what it for. Assuming too much for most followers. If you really want to do this right start with basics. Don’t assume anything.
Change Spark plugs?
It'll be back Eric, That was a made in "China" coil. It Will Be Back. 😵
So why the coil failure? Have spark plugs been checked? High kv kills coils.
I used to do head gaskets on these when they were new. Suuuuper nice to work on. The first few months of production had a coolant leak issue and were recalled for it.
If you can do it…I can do it. HAHAHA! Miracles can happen…I guess. HAHAHA!
I have a question. Shouldn't you change the plugs and wire after changing a coil? This is what I was taught years ago. I know that sometimes coils fail, but to be on the safe side and not knowing what caused the failure, why not?
Same engine as Lexus 450h?
easy! great job and greater video E.O
“Easy peasy lemon squeezy,” as my shop teacher Mr. Longo used to say.
I wish there were more mechanics like you, that are honest and tell the truth, makes me wish I live close by where I could get an honest diagnosis on my cars and honest repairs, thank you for being a stand-up guy I enjoy watching your videos, I'm not very tech savvy and the way you explained it makes it simple and understandable thank you for your good work thank you for your videos God bless you and your family
Might also want to let this guy know that he doesn't have to put his trailer inspection sticker in the windshield looks weird as hell with 2 stickers
Would you chnage the oil after this just to be on the safe side for raw fuel going to the pan an thinking the oil out an spining a bearing ? .
I would but just curious what u thought
Nice work professor
I came really close to trying to sniff that spark plug boot!!! 😂😂😂 those boys are lucky to work with such a comedian!! 😜
These are not endless money pits – Scotty Kilmer 😲
Thanks
I missed where you inspected the plug to ensure it wasn't the root cause of the coil failure.
Coils are cheap and easy to install. You can get rebuilt injectors (send the old ones back for a refund credit) for very cheap and they are warranted and like new ones from an outfit in CA. Installing injectors means the fuel rail can drip some gasoline… so let a mobile mechanic do it. NO mistakes with any spark are tolerated.
Eric, I guess the customer just wanted a quick fix. Usually you would look at why the coil failed and one possibility would be you find out that the vehicle has a million miles and never had a tuneup. Wide open gapped spark plug. Hope that coil hold out. Love your videos. I’ve learned a lot. Thanks!
good job i like that test light whats the part number for that tool??
Good stuff uk Brighton
Wassup Dr. o
Love all your videos Eric and this one was no exception. Your simple answers and diagnosis are important for all your viewers. That light bulb test is GREAT. When you want to know check out the SHOW. Sherlock (Mechanic of Auto) show.
P.S. Car Quest is my place for parts. Have yet to receive a poor or wrong part price is always great to.
Eric, the very happiest of New Years to you and your whole family and crew of SMA. These videos are invaluable to me because they teach me so much about not only fixing vehicles but also how to be a great diagnostician in general!
People who are hating on Toyota for needing this repair are dumb. If this was a GM it would have needed a full rebuild! This thing looks older than god and it needed a $200 fix go cry in a corner with your chevy that will need new lifters and a cam shaft at 100k miles and it will cost you $5000.
I cringed. Hard to see a Chinese part installed and not a Denso in a V6 Tacoma. 237k on my 1999 Tacoma. She’s my everyday driver less mid December through mid January when my neighbor insists he needs it for hunting.
Here I am in the comment section!
How did you know it wasn't #4? Did I miss something?
Wait It obviously needed a Diff O.H. too! and a Pump-a-lator..
Just letting you know, had to click through 5 commercials during this 9 minute video.
After watching a few of your ' Blooper Videos ' your ' If I can do it you can do it ' reminds me of some of my past experiences . Oh how exciting it can get especially when a cutting torch is in use . From central Arkansas , Hope y'all had a great Christmas .
Down-n-dirty – good repair. Sometimes I wished that all my tow-ins were this way.
china is import
But you're cool. The heater core but the blah blah blah
So totally want to get some SMA swag….looking for the sticker…can't find them. Do you still offer them????
That's funny it has 2 inspection stickers 🤔
I have a question. My sister has a 2000 Kia Sportage and I've noticed she has oil in one of her spark plug tubes and I was just wondering How could that be fixed?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year SMA…
