In a previous video https://youtu.be/5dHnnnQytns I had a look at a Buick Roadmaster that had no high beams and no brake lights. It's now time to swap out the turn signal switch and see if all the brakes lights work again. -Enjoy!

when you install the steering wheel onto splined shaft… will it only go on one way or can you install one or more teeth off?

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JT H says:

Hey guy – I fell asleep and missed alot of that video – could you do that job over so I could watch – thanks in advance…

  3. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars buffy stclair says:

Of all the GM signal switches I’ve done , it was only Buick that I’ve experienced brake light not working because of the signal switch. I’ve used mechanic wire tied to plug at bottom then pulled harness upwards, some wiggling back and forth and sometimes moving the tilt at same time then use same wire to pull new switch harness down. When using the lock plate compressor i would slide the ring onto the tool gently not to over stretch it , i wouldn’t loose it it the abyss of darkness on the floor . Did a lot of those ignition tumbles as well as they would be clogged with fillings of soft brass key that wear out to nothing then cause problems. 80% of signal swich job needed to be done to access the tumbler.

So glad i watched this…. Now i know "screw that sh!t" if that goes south i reckon ill pay someone to do it..hahaha

I have done this on both a 1986 chevrolet S-10 and a 1988 Chevrolet 1/2 ton. In both cases, I pulled the column out of the truck and worked on the bench – this saved destroying my ribs lying on the rocker panel and the lighting was far superior as well. great video, as always!

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Hanson says:

Eric, one of the things I like is getting to see the learning curve with you. Like the emergency flasher. Don’t edit it out.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dane Hendrickson says:

Speaking of airbag safety, there was a neighboring shop whose owner was injured from an airbag going off in his face when he got in and turned the key to go on a test drive. Really beat his face up a bit but was ok. Guy returned to work and I swear you not another car does the same thing again. And this happens again to a couple other workers. Come to find out the new guy though he was revolutionizing car interior detailing by pressure washing the interior while it was in the car.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J. Mark Krzystofiak says:

That was the exact pull thru method as shown to me by and old GM tech some 25 years gone by. Back when that crap design was common on the road yet a guy got excited if you could just change a reset spring rather than the whole switch.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Derick Silva says:

Vanessa’s getting a good laughs and so are the people.

  12. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Johnny Sechrist says:

One of my small drawers has just GM steering wheel tools in it….specialty tools started with tilt wheel special tools.

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gary Meredith says:

Look I will take old grumpy cars versus these new-fangled cars that are so damn confusing and needs so much stupid test equipment to work on them you might like working on the new cars but I'll take the old cars any day .
Besides Eric I love watching your videos just to realize how much a pain in it pain in the ass it is to work on these new-fangled cars like the new RAV4 hybrid that I have on order believe me I won't work on that damn thing for anyting that's why I bought extended warranty so the Mechanics at Toyota can screw with it instead of ME .
I will continue to work on my 67 Camaro that I will do .

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars J T says:

Hollywood movies have taught you all you need to know: there is always a red wire and a blue wire! Cutting the correct wire will disarm the airbag. Cutting the wrong wire will immediately set off the airbag.

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars MoparDan says:

Wow, that was some real surgery Eric O. and your assistant Mrs. O. You fixed that turn signal switch properly. I have fixed YouTube for my use by adding Adblock Plus and Adblock for YouTube so that I am not annoyed by the Goddamn commercials!

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jim Bos says:

I'll tell you exactly how I would do it Eric. I would drive to New York, and take it to South Main Auto. Whew, you need to say, If I can do it, don't you even try it.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars nonya biz says:

I may have just put a external blinker switch and left the crap broken in the column. It was my car so no harm no foul. A It was. 1970 Plymouth Fury 2. My baby got hit by a speeding grain truck and spun the car 360 into a ditch. The old girl was still running. I bent the fender back away from the wheel and tire and drove her hone. The truck drive drove into my lane. Those old cars were sturdy as hell.

Super helpful!! I have to replace my signal cancellation cam tower( horn button). 2000 Sunfire. Thx Eric.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daryl Sparks - Sparks Automotive says:

i just always use a piece of mechanics wire tied to the old harness, cut off the connector & pull it up & out.. tie eire to new connector and ease it down through like you did. don't usually have a pretty helper though.. 😉
I always touch the column shaft for a second or 2 to static discharge before unhooking & reconnecting the air bag though… I was laughing at you missing the hazard knob while removing the switch 🤣🤣

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars THEFALCRO says:

I am critical of the concern I have about how perfectly you did this job. It's not nothing for me to do as you asked S.M.A. for life!!

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Michael Knorr says:

Old cars were complicated for different reasons. Try a1968 pontiac Gto. I've done quite a bit, related to a restoration.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mopac88 says:

Shouldn't that thing be in the crusher by now?

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chip Haverstick says:

Caught the comment on JIS screws. Bet there aren't 10 people on the planet that know about them or Pozi-Drive screws…. how to identify and which tool to use. Definitely one knowledgeable mechanic here. Keep up the good work Eric.
Tightened up a couple of tilt wheel columns myself over the years.

  40. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Detroit iron rescue says:

Oh no you have to take the whole column apart to get all three. Last time I had to do it I used red loctite. Cuz I was going to replace the whole column if I had to go back and tighten them things down again

  41. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Larry Ehrlich says:

How many of you really know what a "blue moon" is?

  42. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lyn Heydt says:

Very well done , but you didn't get a bloody finger like I do

  44. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars lloyd dailey says:

that car puts me in mind of a old 78 Bonneville I had once ! the steering wheel was just like that one ! I like the 99 Chevy blazer I had now , it has a cover around the steering column you just take off and there is the combination switch and ignition cylinder !

  45. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars DownintheHoller says:

I worked at a GM dealership years ago. We called it the Buick Road Bastard!

  46. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Simpson says:

Wit& the column wires. Pull the old wire out and have a good string on it. Remove old wire from string. Add new wire to string. Pull string. Less risk of damaging anything.

  47. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rory Weber says:

    Wow something not rusty

  48. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pierre Morin says:

Your very good you did better job then most of us could ever do again nice video thanks

Eric–Uhhm…last time I checked, yeah. What can I do ya for?

Random Youtuber–"My car doesn't have any oil in it. How much is it supposed to have?"
