In this video I have a look at a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox that came in from the used car guy that is having a problem with the all wheel drive system. It was a pretty quick diag.

Hi Eric, saw your video and have a question. Got a 2011 Buick LaCrosse, AWD, which was toad with the rear wheels on the ground. Now I have a service AWL light on. How much damage do you think it did to the rear differential? With both rear wheels jacked up the right turns easy but left is very hard to turn. Rear differential shot?? Thanks
I believe my AWD is not working properly.. I got stuck on some ice with front wheels spinning only.. I drive a dodge journey 2018 gt. Absolutely no warning light for the AWD. My wheels did freeze up one winter ago and I remember faintly that I heard a grind in the back. Probably broke? IDK! Any help would be great.
you should change your title to include the year range of the equinox. there are different models now
Do you know how to service the awd rear clutch fluid on these or the chevy traverse and what fluid do I use?
I just stumbled across this video and immediately subscribed. I have a 2007 Equinox and also have the "Service All Wheel Drive" popping up on the DIC every time I start it up. The puzzling thing about it is , it's a FWD only. There is absolutely no driveshaft or differential on my car. Thoughts? LOL
Eric, what I like most about your diagnosis process, is that you have a plan. What failed? Why? How does this work? I try to follow a similar approach to repairing vehicles. The cool thing is, if you follow the plan, it usually takes you right to the failure. Thanks for the videos and follow the plan!!!
I have a 08 equinox and it says awd off! So it's currently fwd what do u think could be causing my issue?
I love your work. Thankyou.
Have a 06 with non functional rwd found out a few winters ago when I was going up an icy steep grade and only the front wheels were spinning put in 4low still nothing might be similar issue thanks for the insight 👍👍
Did you get the job? Good diagnosis.
Hi I have the same problem with 2015 Chevy it’s says no communication with with the all wheel drive module
Eric-O, thanks for all your input. You, Ivan, SD, ERTCG, Keith and alot of the guys who put efforts into making these videos that we all watch daily. Just wanna say thanks
Never boring. Always informative and very entertaining.
Wear safety glasses when working on cars.
I aspire to be even a quarter the mechanic you are and I’ve been a heavy diesel/equipment technician in the military for 11 years. I watch your videos just to get the little tid-bits of wisdom you give.
The really intriguing thing about you is your ability to diagnose. Your sequence of troubleshooting is perfection. A lot of people make the mistake of skipping steps and shooting at the more difficult problems. I’ve taken a lot of this knowledge you give out (for free) and used it to train some of the younger ranking technicians.
I like your scanner, what brand do you use. Why you don't use snap-on scanner?
What a legend! You’re a beast when it comes to diagnosis!
Hey Eric, just a quick one. I had the service all wheel light come on but went out. Is it one of those things that only goes out if the problem is fixed or might it come back?
Eric you are a delight to watch. I am honestly about to bring my car to you from CT just to get my awd system to work correctly.
Think you should have your own TV show you certainly have a nacky way to keep folks tuned to your channel 👍
Wow, those Equinoxes really get rusty down under. That plug connector has an excellent design if you wanted the area to collect water and dirt. J'st sayin', u know.
Your a good one✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽❤️
Rear diff control module is smoked that diff dont look good eaither lmfao good diag Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Great video as always Eric O @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
Lol, thats a suffix, not a prefix.
Actually that's nothing like I thought when you pulled the wires from the diff module I seen the one pin hanging in the connector and the diff housing for sure was pukeing down the side
NASA could of used you when they had the shuttle missions✅🖖
Most of your business is American vehicles. Do they suffer from problems more than others or that's just what people own there?
I love the way you are methodical and come up with a logical plan and follow thru. All these new cars are so computerized that you need to diagnose what you are looking for before you stick your meat hooks into it. Keep up the great work!👍👍👍
Ha, What do you call an insect that hangs out at gas stations?🤔
A (wait for it) “ESSO Bee”.🤦🏻♂️
No, no need, I’ll just leave quietly.😀
At first I thought it had to be the yellow wire, but I was wrong.
Yes. Modules talk like that. I know…. 😉
What scan tool are you using?
You've changed your tactics , you used to go look at the area of problems , then you went to the computer ? Good you are busy .
Thanks for the videos iv learned alot from your post
Once again you show how to get to the cause of the problem. Excellent demonstration on how to do it.
"In amperes, thank you Tesla" Hahahahaha loved that
Gm crap, leaking oil everywere, god, compkete garbage they make nowadays.
Man look at the rust allready ,
Run it as a 2wd car
Constantly impressed.
Spot on once again
Equinox is a failed GM experiment
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. We’ve missed a good diag. Would love to see some pico action if you get a chance!
What's that fly telling you lmfao
lol enhance love ya !
The way I see this, if anyone does not like how you diagnose " open a shop and diagnose how they want to. Just my thoughts.
So people actually comment that using computers to "work on cars" is a "waste of time"? Given the advent of CAN bus and a module for this and a module for this and a relative lack of hard wiring, etc, how the hell would you NOT work on cars nowadays without "computers"?

45 thumbs down.
Unfortunately, those who do nothing always feel qualified to criticize those who do it.
Once again I learn the value of a good lookee loo at the schematic before going under the car. I may have a little vertigo but I am also the beneficiary of watching a master at work. Thanks for the great video Eric!
