  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brent Owen says:

The only arguments that I think can be made for opening the bleeder and removing the brake fluid is that eventually it's the same as a brake fluid flush. And the bleeder gets some exercise and attention…replacing missing bleeder cap-or it doesn't open…data is gold.

Me personally, I hate brake cleaner. Every time I use it in the shop I tend to have to weld within 30 minutes after and if you never welded after spraying brake cleaner, DONT DO IT! Even if you spray brakes and you weld a part 30’ away on a table, your still screwed. I have nightmares from it. PTSD!

Circle the rubber with a finger of silicone before you push them in.

2017 needs brakes? Have 2006 Jetta with 160,000 still on the original brakes. Oh… and no rust 😁

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars stgreen78 says:

Eric, thanks for making a million brake videos😂🤣
Had the shakes when braking and found stuck slide pins…rusted in. If I hadn't watched so many of your videos I wouldn't have even checked & probably messed up my new rotors or kept replacing other parts.
    Thank you👍

Please answer a question. What is the purpose for not putting any lube on the contact surface between the pad and the brake hardware. I don't understand why lube there would be a problem. No did you should be putting any loom on the face of the patter on the rotor surface which I have never done. Good one time see somebody put the anti rattle goo on the face of the pad was Ed Boyd that caused some really interesting issues. But a very thin touch of good break Reese on the ends of those pads I've never had a problem with. I've only been doing break since 1964 or so.
Another thing that I always do is I put Anti-seize on the hub face or the inside of the rotor hat. And I usually paint the rotor hat with a ceramic brake calliper paint. It really helps. Especially here in Michigan where we have salt.
Whatever I have time I always clean up the rotors and the bracket and I usually paint them as well. It does make future jobs so much cleaner.
Chevrolets Phyllis shit. I take my car out I run to about 50 and without letting off the gas I'll slow it down about 4or5 times to about 15 to 20 miles an hour. After that, I've and drive the car for about 10 to 15 minutes to allow the brakes to cool down and all of that resin that causes the brake squeal is off of the surface of the pads.

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mark Owens says:

Great Video. I've seen this post install and I have a question. I followed most of what you've done and I'm hearing a noise, sounds like a grinding, when I brake. This sound occurs when at low MPH and light braking. I used Ceramic pads. I've checked the system and everything looks good. Any suggestions. I'm hoping not to take it to a dealer. Thanks!!

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Kirby Schneider says:

A 2017 needing new rotors? Is this normal?

  23. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Johnson says:

Just a comment my friend work at GM he made over 70,000 putting the rotor bolts and spring lug nut retainers on so the rotors didn't fall off on the assembly line that was his sole job

  24. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Doyle Holloway says:

i just replaced the front and rear brake pads on my 2007 mercury mountaineer..
i added small amount of silicone lube to the ears of the brake pads that slide on the new hardware..
hope i didn't screw up… what do you think Eric??

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Willa Herrera says:

I've NEVER seen a rotor wrapped like that here in California. Must be a regional thing.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Alan Sullivan says:

Nice video Eric O as usual

  27. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Harlan Stocks says:

If you go 60 you only have to do it half as many times

  28. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars northwest mechanic says:

I just replaced the rotors, and pads on my Mitsubishi. I put brake lube on the brackets and the hardware plus on the ring of the calipers.

  29. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Spudth (The way I do it) says:

Soooo you don't lube the lugs per sey but when you spray your "Liberal" coating of Fluid Film on before the rotor install, you don't avoid the studs, CORRECT?

  30. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Dennis Vance says:

Eric you make it look very easy.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JOSHNAUGUSTA says:

Eric O I noticed you used a different lube on the caliper than what was used on the slide pins. Just out of curiosity was there a reason or was it the closest lube to you. I’ve been using the perma on everything when I do brakes. Love the channel and the content sir!

Sounded more like half an uga-dugga to me be I’m no brain scientist…

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Padraic McGuire says:

    Eric,

I see you do not let the fluid film spray dry up before you put the disc on. I've never used the stuff here in mn, but based on your show am trying it now.

I'm concerned with the amount of ffilm put on. that it will get slung out and contaminate the back face of the disc. Is this a non issue, or a concern to control?

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jared G says:

Love the videos, Eric. Good information, great personality, and easy to follow. I also love the tool tips – love seeing gear in action prior to dropping cash since I'm just a weekend garage monkey.
That said, a little tip from me to you on utility knives – do yourself a favor and grab a Milwaukee Fastback instead of that two-handed unit you always use. They are fantastic – easy to open, easy to close, all one-handed, and I always feel confident it did what I wanted it to do.

  38. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Pete James says:

A sheep joke I used to tell my kids: a cow goes up to a sheep and says "mooo-ve over" – the sheep replies: "baaa-llocks".

They used to repeat it when we were out driving past a field with cows and sheep in, their Mom used to go up the wall. She gave up in the end..!

  39. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jon Hutchens says:

I have found some slide pins so siezed that I think someone used low temp grease on them. Always use high temp silicone brake grease.

Eric, I have to splice a new connector for a secondary pump on a 2004 Cadillac Northstar ( Shit wagon) . The original pump and connector melted due to a short I guess. What is a good splice connector ? I remember you say when you were young you used a brand that was No good and all the repairs you made using them eventually failed and you had to use another brand . I need the splice to be water proof and using a shrink. What would you suggest for splicing a new connector? Flux and shrink or connectors and shrink????Thank you.

I know you do your videos for learning purposes and teaching, but do you also do your videos to justify to the customer what you've done? because I've seen enough of your videos to know that you can't be videotaping everyone in your jobs… But I was just curious if you have any discrepancy with the customer do you show the video? I finally googled your placeand realize that I go past your place on the interstate a lot I'm an over-the-road truck driver.. and it looks like your wife now has got her own little cooking channel?
