In this video I am working on a 2014 Subaru Outback 2.5 that came in with the all to common rotted rear exhaust flange. You can fix it a few ways and one of those ways is just to chopped out the flange and replace it with a sleeve pipe as I show in this video. - Enjoy!

I did the exact same job with hose clamps and the exhaust glue stuff in October. Found the 2 1/8 id sleeve slipped right on and clamped
Why wouldn't you just buy a $4 gasket and $10 spring bolt kit?
I see why yall stay busy…customers appreciate it when you save them a little $.
"two inch ID ID' You don't look Rastafarian to me..
I would rather sand down the other sides
Easy! But not trivial. Great video.
Is this the equivalent of using a soup can and a welder LOL
I know next to nothing about car repair but I had a question. Why would you not just replace the exhaust gasket? Is it because of the corrosion. Sorry if the answer is obvious.
I've seen those couplers labeled 2" OD and 2" ID – so it is measured as an outside or inside diameter, slip on like a glove.
I have a 2006 outback it keeps blowing door lock fuse do you have a vid of you finding and fixing it ?
Could you use clamps for those couplers? I don't have a welder.
Hello Eric, how are you and family with of ( CORONA VIRUS ) Ojalá que bien,
My first thought when you cut the pipe was Red Green, duct tape. If the girls don't find you handsome they need to find you handy.
Yeah I really like the fact that you tried to save people money instead of just throwing money at everything like a lot of the other shows do cheers to you. God I hate those guys that call everything budget builds and all they're doing is throwing money at everything well hell anybody can do that anybody can throw money at a project and get it accomplished yeah I'm venting
Eric's channel used to be like this but after he stopped working on customers cars I lost interest.
Battleship Grey my Dad always said! didn't what shade!
It used to be that exhaust was in store as we used so much salt. Today its miracle if its in country (on some lonly hall). and reason is heat (makes rust free metal to rust magnet again) of welding i Q as aalways the leak today is around it…
Anyways Nice sounding welder there USA made or something that do EU Shipping?
What about a flex pipe for the middle there. Seen em around. Hell of a racket when they rot out tho.
Great video. In this case, wouldn't you use one 1/4 inch larger rather than expanding the 2 inch pipe?
Been looking for a good exhaust pipe stretcher thanks for the link @southmainautorepairllc
Good video Eric O
I did this same type of repair on a early 2000 Malibu using a 2 inch stainless steel band clamp that I think worked out great.
2"? I.D. I.D. oh!
I.D. I.D. ay!
This ain't Minnie the Moocher's ride, is it?
Eric, my daughter has same car, so all info and tips are helpful to me !! Thanks !!
Uhh Eric when can I uncover my eyes 👀?
does that welder use a gas? i tried to weld mine on the lowest settings and still burnt through..tips please?
That was exhausting to watch!
Where's the brake clean WHAAAAAAAMMM!?!
Superb job. You make it look easy.
Always great vids man wish there was mechanic like u around here I would love to ask you a few questions about my grand am
Today was a bad day to wear headphones
Good enough for the girls we go out with!
I've gotta get me a ball pein hammer!
you ll love it at ROSS!!! AND you ll LOVE IT at Levitts/ old department stores mottos!!! you may know unless these change names East of Mississippi as many companies change their names
You good Welder.
I have been on overload watching all your videos, love your work! I wish more mechanics had the integrity and morals you have. I have my project cars being a 1976 Datsun 280z and a 85 Corvette but also spend lots of time with my friends 1978 Pace Car Corvette. Great videos and thanks for sharing your adventures with the world.
Years ago on my "78 Honda Civic, I replaced a long piece of the 1" pipe with some scrap 1" copper drain pipe. I used 45 degree elbows and soldered up the hump to go over the rear axle. lasted for years until I sold the car. Looked like a plumber did it.
What steps do you take to avoid frying the electronics when you are welding on a car? I know a guy who took out all 5 computers on a Saab when welding on it…
What is the issue with brake cleaner with chlorine? Apparently if there is no chlorine neither is there music. The whole underbody is coated in NaCl anyway so what's the problem?
That one size fit all spanner is a really useful tool!
Not gonna clear coat that paint job??!?!? Such a hack!! Unsubbing
Cuttin', hammerin', weldin', the classic SMA video!
Did this on my nissian i had about 5 years ago but was clamped. Worked fine for the time i had it. Not sure anymore since i haven't had it in 4 years.
I was wondering i thought you were to disconnect the battery when you weld on a vehicle
You know what else would make that repair last longer? Move to a warmer climate. Good job giving her the beans with the pipe expander. Funny story, my buddy and I had our other buddies kid brother out in his van looking for a duct stretcher (think metal air duct), years ago. Poor Jimmy was out there close to a half hour before we let him in on our little prank. Good thing we didn't ask for the metric adjustable too
Is it safe to tack weld w/o eye protection?
Did Subaru ever switch to stainless exhaust pipe like some of the newer vehicles
It always amazes me at how versatile a general mechanic has to be, welding skills, mechanical, electrical etc. Surprisingly, the main area guys fail at are the business owner problems, which are a completely different skill set.
ID is Inner Diameter
He aint no body shop tech mama! Look at them paint'n skillz
