In this video I share I process that I have learned for removing bearing races stuck to a hub that commonly happens when pressing a bearing out of a spindle. I originally saw it on this video a year or so ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hys-0NWDL1w -Enjoy!

I saw this on tiktok and tried it, the trick is you gotta get it hot enough and spin it kinda quickly and it will work!!
Perfect timing 👍 will be doing this Saturday 😁Thanks
WOW! I came here from a comment on a video by Rainman Ray's Repairs, I've seen you in the comment section there, too. This was awesome! 🤩BTW I just googled the sentence from the comment and your video was the top return. The algorithms aren't ALL bad! Stay safe.
GENIUS ALERT!! Awesome video. I cannot wait to try this. Makes every other technique look difficult and time consuming. Obviously this may not always work so die grinders and race pullers have their place (I'm sure), but it just seems ridiculous to bother with either until after trying this. Will be using a MapGas torch with basic bernzomatic head. Hopefully I have the same amazing success.
For anyone wondering. I tried this with a map torch. Didn't work 😂
Does it work with propane torch? Thank you.
I just saw a Steck specialty tool and came to YouTube to see if it’s actually a legit way to remove these. Then I found this, sockets instead of the specialty tool, AND it’s legit. Lol.
Wonder if it works with mapp gas torch
I don't have a torch. The old lady's hair dryer might do the trick.
Theres honesty for you….Eric ensures there is no belief he invented this routine…..well done Eric…..
Cool. I don't have an oxy-acetylene torch, just a little Benzomatic oxy-propane. Just removed the tapered roller cone from a shaft on my transmission planetary. Bearing was recessed so couldn't get a puller behind it. I snipped the cage to get the rollers off, the grabbed the lip end of the race with a clamshell bearing puller. The lip cracked off a bit but got first one off. The 2nd one, the lip broke 180 deg around, so nothing left to grab. I then used my 6-26 milling machine to cut the race off. Had to use a carbide end mill since regular HSS mills just chattered on the hard steel without cutting. Took a long time to clamp the part tight and setup so the mill could reach down past the shaft end. The race cracked before cutting all the way thru, then slid off easy.
It's amazing how many useful techniques I've learned from watching your channel after I retired and don't need to use them any more.
Heated mine up for like 7 mins and nothing 😐 might try again later see if anything changes
Cool. worth 10 times the cost of admission. Flat Rate Master channel shows this technique.
Now, if I can just figure out how to remove a blind cup race like they press into aluminum manual transmission housings.
I just spent two hours with an air hammer, a dremmel and a chizel before the race gave up and cooperated. I walk in here, see your video on the side (and it was there before I went out to the garage), and watch you do it in less than a minute with a torch. I'm just bangin' my head for not watching this BEFORE I went out there. I know what I'm gonna do on the other side and from now on. Thanks for Postin'!
Would a plumber torch works or we definetly need an oxy-acetylene one ?
I have been a tech since 1980, done hundreds/thousands of wheel bearings. heated ring gears on and off flywheels. This trick has never crossed my mind. Thanks for sharing. In the month since discovering your video i have used this trick 3x and shared it with all the guys in the shop. Thanks ahsin
Does this work with a standard propance torch because not everyone has oxy-acetylene ..
wtf….Wish I knew this years ago. Amazing.
can this be done with a berzomatic MAPP torch?
All I have is a propane torch (blue bottle) and I was unsuccessful. Do I need to heat it longer since I'm not using acetylene?
tried it, Didn't work, mine was too stuck I guess
state of the union 2019
Beautifully done. Like that. I was also waiting for the paper towel to ignite!
Big thanks for the tip. Gonna try this out this weekend.
That was awesome! Worked like a charm! Thanks!
i was just thinking of doing this im glad i dont have to experiment XD
Awesome tip Eric!!!😳
Will MAPP gas torch work for this?
Nice! Can this work with just a propane torch?
WHHHHAAT?!?! I really hope this works. I was planning on buying new hubs. But the time and money I can save with this technique….Good job!!!
thank you, god bless.
Do you think it would work using an induction heater instead of a flame ?
may have seen tip on Flat Rate masters channel
You can probably do the same thing with an induction heater – I'll have to give that a try. Less 'exiting' to do it that way though!
Nice tip! Thanks. 🙂
Eric. You are a Genius
Ha ha ha great idea…
Got the opportunity to use this method and I love it no more beating on the race
one two barbecue
Thanks, I've never seen that before.
And there’s your dinner…
wow, so many 4 letter words could have not been said over the years….
Main Street what is the name of that red bar you use to press the ball joints down so you can separate the axle from the hub???
Old dog : Best tricks.
Would a propane torch from the ol Home Depot be good enough for this? I gotta do this soon but I don't have a proper torch yet.
Hey Eric, this is probably a long shot but ever think about giving a crash course using an oxygen acetylene torch? Have at my shop but kinda intimidated on using it haha. I stick to using my MAP gas torch when needed.
Wow I never thought of heating it up like a small engine crank bearing to make it a little bigger than the hub. lol I feel stupid for never thinking of this one. Thanks for the tip.
should work with a MAP torch.
Great tip. Could have used this a couple of years ago.
