In this video I have a look at a Saturn Aura XR that is having issues with the security alarm. Every time you open a door the alarm goes off regardless if you armed the vehicle or not. I bring you through my entire thought process from start to finish. Hope you enjoy it! Let me know in the comment section!

You missed the part about chirp then delay then alarm when drivers door or trunk is opened when the system is armed. This indicates a problem with drivers door opening. Need to slow down while reading service info sometimes.

keep the process…..thats where the logic is.

  5. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Terry Jennings says:

Love the electronic trouble shooting. Electromechanical systems are here to stay. Wrench spinners get up to date training. We all need to raise the bar in our service skills. It gets labor intensive I know. But you will get better and faster with more experience .

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Chris Bentley says:

If the old switch now works would you keep it on the side and if some poor old lady comes in with the same problem then would you tell her you have an old Eric O refurb and just charge labour or just junk it? But I suppose if you did you would have shelves of 'usable stuff' for the people on minimum wage and 17 kids. Tongue in cheek but just a thought. Great video Mr O. I love the deduction part, the how and why. I'll never use this myself but it is just enthralling to me.

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Gis Mo says:

2 years later.. yep, watching for the diagnosis process. Awesome sauce Eric. Appreciate the content.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Esi Ca says:

    I enjoy your deductive reasoning.

  9. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Leonel Gonzalez says:

You have the best troubleshooting videos, keep it up and don't change it.

  10. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew Cz says:

I had the exact same problem on my 2008 Pontiac G6 GXP (same car, basically). I didn't go as far as taking apart the switch though, I just grabbed a few out of scrap cars and the first one I tried worked. Wonder if my lock switch broke the same way – easy enough to get some water on that if you knock snow from the doorframe onto the armrest, or have a reason to open the window in the rain (drive-thru, smoker, etc). Typical mid-range GM, none of those door modules are well sealed, at least not on my G6 (RIP), so even a little water creeps right down inside the door controls area.

Keep them with all the info

Good job eric! Nice to learn about Dpoor locks

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Vrba says:

Good video. More and more cars depend on the computer to function properly, so this includes all the sensors.

  15. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mr Green says:

I think the process of finding the issue is all that is to it, showing just the bad part and how to replace it is a matter of luck in solving the same problem, you'll end up with a collection of "hey, look what I've found!". The process can find any problem, even if it hasn't been found before. Great video! Things like these got me hooked to this channel. Thank you for sharing! I hope I'll be as good as you one day ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars mike marshall says:

Love this type of content. Keep up the great work

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paul Christiansen says:

Which of these things is not the same? My dad always said to figure out how it is supposed to work before you try to repair it, as you may have parts missing or installed backwards or out of order. Your process is a perfect example of sorting out the process the software uses and looking for anomolies.

  18. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Karl Vondrak says:

Enjoy this type of troubleshooting and your process. Do not edit it out!

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Daniel Reynolds says:

One of the main reasons I watch your videos is because you go through the whole process. This helps with my diag procedures because itโ€™s always good to get a different point of view if any.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Mechanical Mike says:

Old video at the time Iโ€™m watching it but if you somehow stumble upon my comment go with the detail in depth process, I really like and appreciate it. I got ripped off paying $16,000+ for tech school and your videos are way more educational than my schooling was, I also watch ericthecarguy too you two are my main instructors

  21. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Larry Fine says:

I like seeing the details. The more the better!

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Beauchemin says:

I know on the inside of the Truck has a switch for the lock that you can flip on or off. Have no idea if that helps.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Defender Fabrication says:

Did I miss whether fixing this switch also fixed the power window problem? I am dying to know.

  31. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Lawdawg Mon says:

Love the videos but so many of them lack closure… What happened? Did the customer order a new switch? If so, did you install it? What about the open indicator on the TDC screen? What did Mrs. O. want at the end?

  32. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Van DuBose says:

Please continue to show your process of troubleshooting. Itโ€™s very enjoyable to see how you eliminate and solve your issues.

  33. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars William Wiedau says:

Keep the same process. The journey to the fix is part of it. You give a lot of valuable information. Every fix is different and unique. I enjoy your sense of humor.

    Love showing the process… Definitely.

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andrew L says:

Haha, the joke about making French toast during a snowstorm got me pretty good. That happens where I live every winter, even though we routinely get snow and there are about 10 grocery stores per square mile in my city.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Branden Mulhollen says:

Come on man! You know we like the full diag. process shown. You think weโ€™re a bunch of amateurs here? Haha We all learn a lot from you. Keep it up my friend! This Comment originated in Canisteo, NY! Lol.

  37. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Paublus Americanus AMERICANUS says:

The problem I have Mr. O is my car in super cold weather has an engine plug in heater. What you want to do below zero when you are as old as I am is to use your remote start to start the car at 15 below zero from inside the house. The problem is if you have the hood cracked it won't remote start. I guess I will have to tape the hood ajar switch shut because when you get as old as I am you need the hood ajar to remind you to unplug the heater. Of course at your age you won't drive off with the gas pump in the nozzle of the car. But wait till you get over 75 and darn it I need reminders. It sure is handy having a remote start and a plug in heater. Sweet. What would be even better is to have a bungy on the plug in so when you back out you will see the heater cord flag fly up in front of the car while you are backing out. All wheel drive is so sweet in the snow you don't even need salt on the road and I am thankful for that.
