In this video I have a look at a 2014 Ford Taurus that came in with the engine light on and a code P0456 for a small EVAP leak. This is a relatively common issue with these vehicles. Come along for the diagnosis! -Enjoy!

I'm curious what effect a bad evap canister can have on performance, any smells, etc etc, if anyone knows. Thanks!
The OEM FOMOCO part on Ebay is $15.99. Why not just replace it? Glad my mechanic doesn't use a blunt object to fix my Taurus.
Thanks for the info. I was having trouble with the same code. Couldn’t get a straight answer from anyone. Car ran like crap. Until! I hit the purge valve with the end of my screw driver, and wha la! It worked. The purge valve was stuck open. It’s running like a top now, and hasn’t stuck again. Crossing my fingers but it did work. So at the moment saved myself $250.00 in parts and labor. So thank you, and keep up the help videos.
I liked the Launch X431 V+ till I saw this Bosch ADS 625…..
Still have this code on my '99 2.7L Dodge Intrepid. I just clear the code, drive 30 miles then get my annual inspection done. Have been doing that for over 4 years now haha! Never bothered nor figured out what/where the problem is
So… No Big Nasty?
Not likely the best location, hot engine compartment, for a plastic sub-standard purge valve. They could have mounted it on the inner apron area off to one side and saved a bunch of degrees for a reliable/longevity location for a mechanical device made of plastic.
I see you got your Jeep hat back.
First evap leak job I get after I get my Autel906BT, a P0456 small leak on a 2010 Lincoln MKZ with a 3.5. What a PITA to get to the purge valve, under the P/S reservoir buried back by the firewall. Fortunately I think the vent valve is the leak as I have smoke coming out of it when it should be closed.
No visible smoke? Obviously because you didn't smoke it Lol
Useful video! My car , same thing, according to my mechanic.
meh, dirty/bad filler neck, pretty sure that has the cap-less system….
amazing it wasn't the capless, but that will probably be next
I've been to three separate mechanic workshops
and they've all run smoke tests and cannot find the leak anywhere.
Replaced the purge valve, solenoid, and evap canister filter and the
check light comes back on in 20 miles or so with p0442. The gas cap was also
replaced with a new one.
Another good video with good information
😎👍👍
I didn't watch yet but gonna throw a purge solenoid at it 🙂 let's see if i am right
OK, that was impressive. Either you're even more brilliant than I already think you are or you have done enough of these to have a 'feel' for that particular code and its source.
Your customer is lucky to have you.
Good video Eric O
Line the car up on the rack and look down the center of the hood and put a dot or decal where the center line is so when you pull in you can find the same spot every time.
"Life lesson"… (hit kid with screw drivers to keep doors closed…) Got it!!!
Daniel Simpson is right. I should hit the like button when this video started. This was informative and again entertaining. Eric, you and your friend Ivan both would have me as a customer if I wasn't 1700 miles from you. GOD bless you and your family.
Wow, way over my head, I can only assume it keeps the right pressure or vacuum in the fuel tank. Did not learn a thing. I better stick to the brake videos.
Hey Eric O love your vids watch all the time I was wondering if maybe you could give me some ideas for tracking down what's going on with my car 2011 Crown Vic Interceptor stalls while driving they're is a wrench light that comes on in the cluster when this happens no check engine light or codes stored when I scanned it if I turn the key off and restart it runs fine again until it decides to quit any help you could give would be greatly appreciated it's hard to find an honest mechanic around here and I don't want to just start throwing parts at it
Hello,
I have a 17 Kia Optima with 58k on the clock and noticed it’s using oil. It will use around 2qts every 3-5k mikes. I just noticed this issue during last oil change so I called the Dealership. They said it’s possibly the pcv valve but I just wanted to see if you have had ran into this issue. From what I gather the 2.4l is known for this issue. I am taking to dealership this week but I just didn’t know if I should let them mess with it or just get rid of it.
Good tip never trust your scan tool data! Except on a factory tool. Bosch’s first scan tool was affectionally called the Bosch hammer because that’s all it was good for! Do you find this tool to be better than Autel or worse?
Told someone to tap the starter and it might start well it didn't i went to put a starter on and noticed that they beat the crap out of the starter!!!!!!!!
I've been unsubscribed from your channel without my consent. I hope YouTube isn't shadow banning you Eric O!
Mr. O, I wanted to comment not on this video, but on your channel as a whole.
Today, your channel saved me around $100 and a good bit of time. My wife drives a 2008 Subaru Tribeca, and her idler pulley went out this morning… While in the process of diagnosing this, I noticed the tensioner pulley was also making some noise, so I wanted to replace that. But to do so, you have to buy the entire tensioner.
After a bit of thought, I remembered you talking in one of your videos about bearings and pulleys, and how companies usually use the same item for multiple different applications. Long story short, I took the pulley to a parts salesman that I trust, and he found a bearing to press into the pulley.
So thank you for the videos you make. I am another in what I am sure is a long line of people who have learned from you.
Thanks for the video.
what causes them to start sticking open? internal lubrication drying out?
A car that wakes up and runs tests on itself in the wee hours and the dark of night. I thought we just HAD Halloween.
🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
Knowin me id knock the dam vacuum titty off…
We need a toolbox tour!!!
My fucking 2016 Camry got this code at 39k miles out of warranty by 3k miles…
And then it fixed itself
"no visible smoke"… lol. I feel like I missed something
I said to myself, "Ford car, evap code, must be another stuck purge valve!" Now I tell myself to get some ice cream as a reward.🍦
interesting that it flags a small leak code and not a lg leak. Good info. Have seen this with Kias and Nissans as well. Test that purge valve!!!
Great diagnosis Mr O!!!!
so don't leave door open or Eric o will smack ya with a screwdriver lol. noted lol
Is this the Clint Taurus from Tommy and Rumble in Norfolk VA ?
Main dealer… we need the car all day to run every test you can think of on it ( with costs per hour )
Eric… ( looks at car ) purge valve.
I’m half tempted to drive to you from Texas so you can fix my car.
Another good video
Remember Eric it is NEVER safe to "leave the village"…that"s when the zombies get you.
The money light name should be changed to a possible new hacienda in the Caribbean light.
Great Vid.
My concern,,,,,dirty engine bay. 🙂
I like your utube channel a lot. Watched for a long time . I use most of your advice . You had mentioned at one that you did not like tire pulgs I can understand why . But I my self are on the fence about this one . How do you feel about using it for non highway veicals tractors and fork lifts . Or just as a quick repair to get going and Chang the tire the very next day.
One last thing I used to be a teck. I did not have a computer system that advanced . I used a combination of gages . Have you compared the peco system to very good high quality gages . Has that computer system been wrong before . Great channel.
