In this video I have a look at a Jeep Patriot that is having trouble running. It starts skipping, bucking, engine light flashing and has a code for the crankshaft sensor. Is that really what is wrong with it? Let's find out. -Enjoy!

My 2011 Patriot is the same… too bad the last shop I took it to replaced the starter and the engine mount they were supposed to replace the CPK too but I doubt it cause now it's bucking worse… FML… do you think they didn't reset the ECU?
I would like personally thank you kind sir I'm getting Sensor B bank one and I changed exhaust side without knowing thankfully I can put the Sensor on the intake side 😄 now to see if that fixes the issue
What are those 3 clicks after you turn off the vehicle? Mine and others I've drove always clicks after I turn them off
Great video. Could a faulty electronic throttle body or an cause a crank but no start on these cars. Thanks
Where’s the link to the wire piercer?
A mirror helps!
Te a topado con el sensor CMP p0365 de Jeep Patriot 2009.?
😊🇵🇷👍
There's your problem, Lady. It just needed a rev up tune up..
Yea I have an 07 patriot with identical issues, can you give me a step by step procedure on resetting the ecu??? Please
I have a hard enough time as it is being a passenger in a vehicle, but put your scope output in front of my face and I get really paranoid.
Yes I’m
More like fake off road
The old reach around lol
On my jeep patriot, cylinder 2 has no signal from the sensor. So im running on 3 cylinders. Any idea why there is no signal being sent to my ignition coil? Coil is good and plug is good.
Hi, so am trying to figure out what to do next, i replaced the crank sensor and ran good for a day now but check engine light is back on????
Why do manufacturers continue to use CVT’s when no one really wants them?
Eric. Any possibility of posting the cam crank pico file? I’m having a similar issue. Thanx for the great vijayos.
Hey Eric I just wanted to let you know that I just ran into this today .. set a P0300 P0315 and a P0335.. I would say the sensor to me was definitely shorted .. looked kinda like a waste spark coil firing . And I lucked out better then you guys did because mine was FWD.. definitely used parts of your video as a guide .. great help
im buying an 09 patriot SO ERIC PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YA THINK I SHOULD WATCH FOR BRO?
Spark plugs fixed my skippin and buckin
So What is going on with #2 i believe its Cam sensor running only like 200nV is that normal?
Those wire piercers are money! I shall pick up a pair stat!
I had a 2008 Jeep Patriot (check the pfp) and my god they are gigantic piles of shit. sold it to a buddy at 96K miles. TOLD him it needed the CVT flushed. He never did. it lasted 7 months before the belt slipped. got auctioned off later from a repo. prob in a jy now
63,000 miles same problem. I replaced the sensor but now it won’t start. Help please
Still strange.
You have the voice of a pro wrestler. Live long and prosper…
What subscription do you use that you get all your wiring diagrams from?
Chrysler…
Thank goodness they weren't making them like that in WW2.
Faulty sensors show malfunction when heated. This or even old 83's Suzuki inline 4. You heat it up, sensor goes wild.
Mine is a 2015 2.0L Patriot sport. A friend changed the crank and both cam shaft sensors and that seemed to have fixed it. I had about 56k when this started happening. Jeep is crap.
Have you ever messed with a Suzuki equator I hit a deer it's been in the body shop for two months just for body parts now it doesn't want to start no throttle response now it just cranks over they put new battery throttle body still no start never had any trouble before always ran great
replace the alternator. check the coils on the heads as well. your problems is alternator.. its throwing out wild amps. you can replace the weakest link if you want. its the alternator that is the problem.. she'll be in the shop again. another weakest link will fail. i know because i had the same issue… they need a recall on all alternators supplied on the jeep patriot.. i had 3 coils fail and the alternator.. one dealer replaced the transmission on a patriot and found out it was the alternator that was putting out wild amps. killing electronics
Have a relative with a 1991 Dodge Dakota (3.9L). It seemed to need a replacement sensor every 60k miles, almost like clockwork. At the 120k replacement, he started keeping a spare behind the seat. I see this Jeep is at about 66k…must be coincidence.
I had this happen… Similar symptoms, but what's obvious is the issue only exist under load. I had intermittent cam, also correlation code rarely!
Next time, just fyi check the desired cam actual angle vs desired, if these aren't in synch-you'll have crank/cam codes because of poor actuation, i wound up eventually replacing oil control valve, oil changes would work temporarily
I do love how car manufacturers always like to put things they know will ultimately fail deep under a bunch of stuff that has no access, it's time consuming and expensive to replace … Plus also frustrating for mechanics like your self how much involved you have to get for such a simple replacement of a sensor.
the Jeep with 66 thousand miles on it has a glitching ckp and people are call it trash. Seriously?!
Jeep…hmmm…not sure what it would take to get me to buy one. Maybe if someone gave me one I might drive it for a month before selling it. Nah wouldn't want to take a chance. Just sell it right away.
I would change the crank sensor also Eric.
Fixed it good ole rev up tune up ftw
Turn your trigger on so you get a stable picture
I would count on that thing failing again. Chrysler doesn’t know how to make anything good and the 2007 dodge Dakota XLT was famous for the crankshaft actually wearing a hole right into the sensor because Chrysler didn’t give enough clearance. 🙂
Isnt it a hall effect sensor thats prone ta heat gremlins as it ages? Its like my toliet float device which has an adjustmen ta stop trickling of water creatin tgat annoyin high pitch sound. I adjust it and its like all gud then 1 hour later the dang trickle is back. Gonna have ta replace it in other words cause the dng gremlin has jinxed it and claimed as its own.
where is da link to wire piercing
Kilmer was right !🤣
Kinda like my 07 Galant where I had a battery drain and found voltage over the door lock fuse and seems to work ok since I pulled the fuse and the system seemed to reset itself when the door locks where activated 2x's yet still leaves me a bit unsettled. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video.
SMA are my favorite auto videos along with Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics. You guys help empower the rest of us to get out and at least understand how automobiles operate, and possibly do the work ourselves. Thank you.
UPDATE:
Jason replaced the CKP sensor the next day. It was much easier than it was portrayed to be initially. After that we again cleared the adaptive memory and ecu reset, ran the vehicle through a misfire profile relearn and shipped it down the road. All is well in the land of Jeep o||||o
